What Nintendo does that the other two don't now is learn from their mistakes, they have not been afraid to change gears and address problems that come up. Including how they handled the Wii U's loss, they did'nt give up but instead rexamined what they were trying to do and convey it better with the Switch. And when those two rushed out their own new consoles during the pandemic they did'nt follow with theirs. Instead they remained paitent and relied on the Switch's sales to flow through it. And because they've done that now they get to take their time with the next console and make sure it does everything they want it too properly. And more importantly make sure game's are avaliable for it on launch, we've also been hearing they like to sit on projects until just the right time, meaning they have things 90-100% ready to go if their facing long development for a big game. And there's a good chance they still have things they made during this era that have'nt been released, that can now be moved to the Switch 2 to help fill out the library. Bottom line they've got a good game plan going and I don't see them slowing down on it.
I genuinely think they will have a very strong lineup for the "Switch 2" going from launch in the first half of 2025 to Holiday 2026. Based on giving studios a 3-5 year time for making a "big Nintendo Game" Many of the games released in the last few years and finishing up development now were made partially during the peak of the Pandemic which resulted in a large period of time where development slowed to a crawl and were delayed due to the change in working remote which likely caused a longer period of bug fixing and polishing as individual developers had less/slower communication and collaboration while remote. For instance, Tears of the Kingdom was likely originally planned for a Holiday 2021 release but the slow development and increase in bugs caused from the Pandemic and shift to remote working for over a year most likely necessitated an 18 month delay from it's original launch. Aonuma even said they pushed it back a whole year from spring 2022 just to squash bugs and polish the game, something that likely wouldn't be necessary if the Pandemic never happened. A game like Pokémon SV, which spent 1/2 to 2/3 of its development time under "Peak Pandemic" and was an absolute mess because of it. I bring this up, because many studios working on Switch 2 titles had those titles begin work after the Pandemic functionally became a thing of the past starting in early 2022. This will allow for a 3-5 year development time to be very reasonable and the follow-ups to many titles relased since 2020/2021 to find thier way to Switch 2 by Holiday 2026. Studios that released titles between the end of 2020 till early 2023 will likely have something for the Switch 2 before it's big second holiday.
Nintendo has been opening up to working with third parties on their ip recently and the many leaks of the new console led me to believe there's probably already quite a few studios with a developer unit of the console years before launch, so i think we're gonna see a lot of those next year
Nintendo most likely has some filler titles for their weaker months or years of Switch 2. like some remakes, ports and a party game not named Mario Party. IMO I hope the years with fewer of their big titles in the Switch 2 era give us more of there smaller series in those months like Star Fox and the like.
Xenoblade 1 was a high end remaster while Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX was a full blown remake. As for what Nintendo needs to do, they need to bring back Donkey Kong, Punch Out, Star Fox, Golden Sun, Warioland and F-Zero to fill in for the lack of Wii U ports(they will need to do Wii U remakes to fit the Switch 2 so that won’t be something they can just pull out in a drought like they did for the Switch). Each internal studio at Nintendo and their 2nd party partners needs 3 franchises to work on throughout the Switch 2’s life so no one is ever just sitting around thinking of the next installment of a franchise right after the new one is released. The expanded 3rd party support will help the Switch 2 also but rather than relying on 3rd parties like Sony and Microsoft do they can use that expanded 3rd party support to grow the popularity of their own smaller franchises(like marketing franchises like Xenoblade as a follow up big RPG experience to the latest Final Fantasy).
Donkey Kong and Star Fox especially should be top priority, I do think a new Donkey Kong game is coming soon because their giving him alot of attention everywhere else. As for Star Fox it's hard to say, if I were them I'd find a permanent studio that can handle just that series. F-zero did get a new game so it's clearly on their minds at least.
Nintendo will inevitably have less games, simply because they don't have as many eays wii U ports to plug holes like they have with the Switch. There's still some left but if the new console is backwards compatible... welp. There's more Gc games to go through i guess. Edit: guys, please. I'm talking about ports. Easy, profitable ports. Wii U offered many of those, any other console would require way more money, time and effort because those would be remakes. Plus most would be remakes of successful games that already found their audiences before, risking people who liked the originals skipping the remake (like i for one did with TTYD). Wii U ports just took quality games that didn't sell, and made them sell. It was easy money in big numbers.
There's plenty of 3DS games that have very modern design sensibilities but graphics that need to be overhauled. It's a bit of a sweet spot for remakes as a result.
If they let us but GC games on virtual console it would be game over for me. I would buy so many games, but it's probably more likely to be a subscription service, huh?
@@ausgod538 they have, and a lot of people played these games. The Wii U essentially let Nintendo produce remakes that hit the market as almost entirely new products, it's a very different deal and much more positive for Nintendo. The closest thing would be gamecube remakes but if you stop and think about it there is not a lot of big games they haven't already re-released in either the wii, switch or 3ds. (or are games where a remake is pointless compared to a new entry in the series, like Animal Crossing). Like the only mainline games in Nintendo's "core" franchises that weren't remade or ported in some way already are Fire Emblem Path of Radiance, Wario World, F-Zero GX, And Star Fox Adventures/Assault. Maybe Nintendo might realize MK Double Dash is unique enough that its worth bringing back and will not exactly compete with any current Mario Karts. You can argue Melee is in the same boat but that game, they'd rather risk a Mother 3 translation full of lawsuits than bringing Melee back, yikes. Basically they're never going to strike a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe-level port/remake in the next gen
The Switch's launch year was an anomaly. Nintendo fills much of their yearly lineup with AA & smaller games & doesn't release a lot of AAA games anymore. However in 2017, they not only released 2 x AAA games but 2 x AAA games in their 2 biggest franchises in Zelda & Mario. Even though that's unlikely to happen again, there's at least a good chance we'll still get 2 x AAA games in the Switch 2 launch year, only this time it'll be new Mario + Metroid Prime 4 😁
@@dablindscooter1973 I really hope so. I'm probably in the minority, but I think Majora's Mask is the perfect 3D Zelda to be remade in the BotW engine. All the NPCs have their own lives & schedules, and there's so much they could do expanding upon that.
I half kid when I say this but both wii Switch launched with a cross gen Zelda title and they are far and away their most successful systems to date. It's like their good luck charm. The next gen system won't have a 3d zelda game for a long time.
But they can always fall back on Zelda remakes/remasters. They don't generally sell as well as new titles, but literally any of the first four 3d zeldas would be system sellers on next Gen.
But that's not really a major release.... not even a AA game. If it's online-only & Nintendo doesn't even bother with a physical release, it's more equivalent to an NSO Expansion Pack game dropping 😅
@@minecrafter3448 You bring up one of the major criticisms I have with the video. He only looks at the big tentpole releases and doesn't really count any of the smaller AA games that would help pad out the switch's yearly software lineup. New 3D Kirby (Probably) Echoes: Genealogy of the Holy War (Lock) Something Star Fox (Hopefully) Mario Sports Game (Probably) Year? New Chibi-Robo (Hopefully) New Donkey Kong Game (Possibly) Bayonetta 4 OR Astral Chain 2 (Either of these is vaguely possible on their own. Neither of these happening in launch year is impossible.) Luigi's Mansion 4 (Lock) Pokemon Generation X (Lock) New Super Smash Bros. (Lock)
Nintendo games have always looked good. The only thing the Switch 2 needs to do is allow first party games to have 60fps at 1080p at minimum and allow third party games enough horsepower to be ported .
Exactly. A lot of remasters and port have been a but lackluster due to the switch's hardware, but hopefully the Switch 2 can have that extra power to allow better ports
Just picked up the remakes of Mario and Luigi games as I missed the original title. It's great fun as the sequels are. Have to play through the series before Brothership is out.
@@CarterInosencio I very much doubt they'll ever remaster Mario Kart, Smash, or the Mario sports games. They seem to view each one as replacing the last one. You'd have a better chance waiting like 2 or 3 years and hoping Switch 2 gets Gamecube NSO added. If it does, Double Dash will be there day one. (I tend to think Switch 2 will add DS to NSO before Gamecube but same applies there, Mario Kart DS would be on the day the DS comes to NSO)
The literal only reason games take longer to develop is that companies always want bigger bigger bigger. Thats not even necessary, just focus on a fun experience and a 20-30 hour game doesnt take longer nowadays than it did 10 years ago.

Nintendo did a lot of hiring. Also, Nintendo tends to have extra games, they store for a future release.(or at least they did this during the switch era). If there is a drought, I don't think it will be a major one.
I think it’s important to note how long Nintendo will sit on their games if rumors are to be believed many of there most recent games were done well over a year before they released. Heck they probably have the first two years of Switch 2 games either complete or close to finishing development and ready to go.
That's what I'm thinking too, I also think there's games they thought about releasing for Switch but they decided to move it to Switch 2 instead since it's getting so close. I think their very prepared for the next system.

what game drought? the switch has far more games than i could ever play. games on the SNES were short. the N64 only had about 300 games. droughts were a problem in the 90s, not on any modern console.
It's okay guys we will spend 1000 Million on 5 live services, and 4 will fail but one will do enough that we can see potential in this type of monetization I mean games. Loose 200 Million No matter we just have to fire enough people and everything will be fine 🤑🤑🤑
I don't think 2018 counts either, while their big focus was Smash it was for a good reason they knew that would be enough to guarantee people buy the system and I'm willing to be that'll happen for the next Smash game too. It's just that big of an ip for them.
Nintendo always had droughts. Ignoring the company relies on nes ports. Istead of porting there games people want. So the switch 2 drought is unavoidable
The primary thing I fear with Nintendo in the next generation isn’t really the game output as much as it is the quality. Obviously it’s objectively great that they do want to focus on putting out many games, with many AA titles inbetween larger releases, and it’s clear it’s working with the switch, but my main issue is when we get to the next system. Game dev is going to take far longer on new, more powerful machines, and I feel, to remedy that, they’ll may start churning out more smaller scale titles quicker with less devtime and quality, or ports with the same issue, potentially leading to the issue where we go months with some fairly non notable or lower quality releases. We’re already kinda seeing it in the switch, where we go months with many smaller titles to have content, followed by their heavy hitters coming out later to start the cycle over again. Hopefully Nintendo can find a way to mitigate this in the next gen tho, potentially by releasing/ publishing tiny scale eshop games during slow times, like on 3ds or setting up a new release plan that satisfies everyone. Obviously I don’t want to see them fall into a Sony situation where they just don’t have exclusives coming out lol, I still like their release schedule I just think it can be handled better is all. That’s just me tho, tbh I’m kinda just letting off steam from my switch 2 hype lol
Of course they're going to fill out the release schedule with smaller titles. That's how they largely mitigated having major droughts. If you think they're going to release heavy hitter after heavy hitter, you're mistaken.
I don't think you should include octopath, fitness and other things that aren't even funded or poduced by Nintendo. They only published it overseas. Also no idea why you ignored 2021 and 2022 or whh you're ignoring casual games.

Nintendo has other consoles outside of Wii u
There's plenty of 3DS games that have very modern design sensibilities but graphics that need to be overhauled. It's a bit of a sweet spot for remakes as a result.
the kirby games from the 3ds era is a pretty good start for remakes.
Even though that's unlikely to happen again, there's at least a good chance we'll still get 2 x AAA games in the Switch 2 launch year, only this time it'll be new Mario + Metroid Prime 4 😁
we will probably get a zelda remake year 1 aswell
@@dablindscooter1973 I really hope so. I'm probably in the minority, but I think Majora's Mask is the perfect 3D Zelda to be remade in the BotW engine.
All the NPCs have their own lives & schedules, and there's so much they could do expanding upon that.
I half kid when I say this but both wii Switch launched with a cross gen Zelda title and they are far and away their most successful systems to date. It's like their good luck charm. The next gen system won't have a 3d zelda game for a long time.
3D Mario may be in the cards. I do hope it’s not just Odyssey 2 at this point though. Surely it’s not, but that is sad in its own way I suppose
But they can always fall back on Zelda remakes/remasters. They don't generally sell as well as new titles, but literally any of the first four 3d zeldas would be system sellers on next Gen.

Can’t forget f-zero 99, I poured more time into that than Mario wonder
But that's not really a major release.... not even a AA game. If it's online-only & Nintendo doesn't even bother with a physical release, it's more equivalent to an NSO Expansion Pack game dropping 😅
@@corey2232 Sure it’s a AA game. Probably got a few million dollars put into it
@@minecrafter3448 You bring up one of the major criticisms I have with the video. He only looks at the big tentpole releases and doesn't really count any of the smaller AA games that would help pad out the switch's yearly software lineup. Many of the AA games would be much cheaper to develop even on new hardware and even modest sales would make them profitable.
This is why i don't want loads of open world games i just want semi open world because they take less time to develop
I also don't want a 80 hour game loved breath of the wild but tears of the kingdom bored me. i already explored that world the underground didn't have a lot in it either
I think you forgot to mention Beyonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon. Which I’m only pointing out cause it was actually a great game that a lot of people overlooked
Yeah, it was one of my favourite game of that year
I'm, currently, predicting a six game launch day roster in March 2025:
1. New 3D Mario Platformer (Lock)
2. Pokemon Legends Z-A (Launching Simultaneously in 2025! WOW, Pokemon Company. Way to give the whole game away!) (Lock, but cross-gen)
3. Splatoon 4 (Lock)
4. New Animal Crossing (Lock)
5. New Mario Kart (Lock)
6. Metroid Prime 4 (Probably, but cross-gen)
Window?
New 3D Kirby (Probably)
Echoes: Genealogy of the Holy War (Lock)
Something Star Fox (Hopefully)
Mario Sports Game (Probably)
Year?
New Chibi-Robo (Hopefully)
New Donkey Kong Game (Possibly)
Bayonetta 4 OR Astral Chain 2 (Either of these is vaguely possible on their own. Neither of these happening in launch year is impossible.)
Luigi's Mansion 4 (Lock)
Pokemon Generation X (Lock)
New Super Smash Bros. (Lock)
Nintendo games have always looked good. The only thing the Switch 2 needs to do is allow first party games to have 60fps at 1080p at minimum and allow third party games enough horsepower to be ported .
Exactly. A lot of remasters and port have been a but lackluster due to the switch's hardware, but hopefully the Switch 2 can have that extra power to allow better ports
so far, theyre doing pretty good! I just hope they can keep it up.
They literally just need to keep making games the exact same way they're doing now, and they'll have a higher resolution and framerate on the Switch 2
Just picked up the remakes of Mario and Luigi games as I missed the original title. It's great fun as the sequels are. Have to play through the series before Brothership is out.
thank you forecast man
The Wii and 3DS is stil ripe for remasters. They're only just starting to do them with DKC Returns and Luigi's Mansion 2.
Hoping for a new Punch Out in the style of Punch Out Wii, but maybe remaking that one would build interest in a new one.
I would buy a remaster of Mario kart Wii on day ONE
Edit: also DOUBLE DASH
@@CarterInosencio I very much doubt they'll ever remaster Mario Kart, Smash, or the Mario sports games. They seem to view each one as replacing the last one.
You'd have a better chance waiting like 2 or 3 years and hoping Switch 2 gets Gamecube NSO added. If it does, Double Dash will be there day one.
(I tend to think Switch 2 will add DS to NSO before Gamecube but same applies there, Mario Kart DS would be on the day the DS comes to NSO)
Everyone should take notes from Monolith Soft.
After the mess that is XC3, no one should.
The literal only reason games take longer to develop is that companies always want bigger bigger bigger. Thats not even necessary, just focus on a fun experience and a 20-30 hour game doesnt take longer nowadays than it did 10 years ago.
Is there a specific interview for the not giving a greenlight to petting dogs to focus development resources thing?
IGN: www.ign.com/articles/2017/12/09/zelda-breath-of-the-wild-director-explains-why-you-cant-pet-the-dogs I feel like it was addressed in a TotK interview too but I can't put my hands to it and possibly imagined it.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon on Switch was a remake, not a port I believe
Nintendo did a lot of hiring. Also, Nintendo tends to have extra games, they store for a future release.(or at least they did this during the switch era). If there is a drought, I don't think it will be a major one.
I'm always astounded why people actually believe a company will just sit on finished games for years.
@@NuiYabuko you don't want to release all these games at once. Nintendo has games "finished" By finished it means, it just needs some testing.
@@NuiYabuko Nintendo said the next pikmin game was almost done, and it didn't release for like 4 years
On november 7 2024 i annouced to play mario and luigi brothership
What do you mean by pokemon mystery dungeon port. Pokemon mystery dungeon dx was a remake and was not a wii u game
That's not a thing that's actually happening, at least not to the extend "insiders" try to sell you.
Game droughts? I will be too busy trying to play my back log of Switch one games on the Switch 2; as well as continue to buy any awesome Switch 1 games to play on the Switch 2 as well. Nintendo has got a good system; to where they can make a killer triple A game every few years; while we play the best ports and re-releases of gaming's finest, but now on better hybrid hardware!
There’s literally no possibly of content droughts. All they gotta do is fill the dead air with remakes. Hopefully all the remakes are deluxe versions… as I have Zero reason to buy Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD.
Mario 3D Land
Wind Waker
Twilight Princess
Pokémon UltraSunMoon
Pokémon XY
Port Pushmo Series
Port BOXBOY
Tomadochi Life
Mario Galaxy 2
Mario Maker 3
New Super Mario All Stars (Mario DS, Mario 3DS, Mario Wii)
Nintendo Sports Resort
Kirby Triple Deluxe
Kirby Robobot
Super Paper Mario
The Nintendo switch has the potential to become the Nintendo console to just have everything.
what game drought? the switch has far more games than i could ever play.
games on the SNES were short. the N64 only had about 300 games. droughts were a problem in the 90s, not on any modern console.
It's okay guys we will spend 1000 Million on 5 live services, and 4 will fail but one will do enough that we can see potential in this type of monetization I mean games. Loose 200 Million No matter we just have to fire enough people and everything will be fine 🤑🤑🤑
Good video.
Honestly 2020 shouldn’t count because of lockdown
I don't think 2018 counts either, while their big focus was Smash it was for a good reason they knew that would be enough to guarantee people buy the system and I'm willing to be that'll happen for the next Smash game too. It's just that big of an ip for them.
"Game Droughts"? I guess if you only play "AAA" nintendo games then, yea I guess?
You certainly have a penchant for pronouncing words like penchant distinctly
Isn't easier to make new games for the prehistóric machines instead???
hold up - yall think the switch had draughts? then what do you call what happened to the wii u and the 2nd half of wii's life 😂
These young whippersnappers weren’t there in the N64 days
Nintendo always had droughts. Ignoring the company relies on nes ports. Istead of porting there games people want. So the switch 2 drought is unavoidable
There's only like a Nintendo published game a month on Switch.
"Only publishing it" might mean paying for marketing and helping with localisation.
"Nindies" sounds like a slur
I hope more for GameCube and WiiU remake/ports before the remaking more SNES titles.
