American Sport is all about entertainment. It is a show... Europe is all about passion. Crowd is the 12th man on the field.
And let’s not forget in America a club is for an entire state, meaning millions of people, here some towns have 2/3/4 or more clubs… for one town alone.
Supporting your team is just not the same in both…
And last big difference, teams in the USA play actually very few games, like nfl Super Bowl winner plays 17 games to get there.
MLS is about 34.
Here big teams play about 60 games, from national championships, to regional or country cups, to European leagues and so on.
And on top of that we have the championships by country, the Euro or World Cup. which if you look at the size of USA states and the amount of games the teams play , is actually more comparable than to our classic championships or European leagues.
We have passion for our teams…
@@daviddieudonne7829 Thats 1 thing i have no fucking ide why they have there team/clubs limited to 1 per state. Sure if its a sport noone plays then okey, but even there most popular sports the NFL/NBA only have 1 team per state how the fuck is that even happening. 1 quick google search showed about 40.000 officially registered clubs in England alone. The only thing that kept pooping up for the NFL was that there was 32 teams in the NFL. There are apparently betwinn 1200-1500 high school teams around the US and only 32 professionally recognized teams that is a total joke. Each state could create multiple leagues on its own for god sake.
Apart from a show, they are just business destined to make money and sell junk food and cola...., due to which the most popular sports there use to have many breaks during the game..., to make the show more profitable.

As a Mexican football fan, the European great fans are full of passion the same as in South América, and here in my country. We live and breath football with passion. It does not matter if you are por or rich. We become one with football. Nothing can compare with the Premier League matches, the Spanish League, the German and French... Well all the European ones are great. Football runs in our veins for Europeans, Mexican, Brazilians, in Argentina, we live for it... Entire communities Just wait for the weekend to be alive again... That's the difference...
As a European I actually would love to experience a game in Latinamerica. Knowing that we are in that regard the same in the sense how we feel about football and our countries when it comes to international games. I wouldnt be surprised though that some specific games would be even crazier in Latinamerica than in Europe.
I mean at the end of the day it is one of the reasons why Europe and South America are the most successful ...what can be also seen in the WC.
I do have to say I lowkey hope Africa and Asia reaching that level so that it becomes even crazier hehe.

In Europe we don't fly the flag of our nation in league matches. We keep that for international games..
Lazio and Roma - Italian flags, Crvena Zvezda and Partizan - Serbian flags, CSKA and Levski - Bulgarian flags...
Also we leave our underdeveloped compatriots to went on these matches, so they fulfill their desires to be part of clan. Its good for them and society too. They feel appreciated, they buy merch. They cheer. All is good with them. No one gonna start school shooting.

As a Brit, a thing I've noticed that many Americans I know fail to realise, is that football (soccer) in Europe is pure passion and culture. Whereas in the US, I believe its something that parents take their kids to play til like they age of about 11 and then they give up. Its a sport to Americans, but for Europeans, without sounding corny, its life. If you ever go to Europe, I would really try and get tickets to a game, especially some French and German teams like Marseille, or Frankfurt, or Koln (like you saw in the video).
I don’t think it’s a good idea for Americans to go to europe because Europeans hate Americans💀

The stadium shown in the video is max Morlock in nurnberg and it’s actually forbidden to jump there because of the risks
it's built exactly to swing the weight, if it didn't swing it would be really dangerous. It's not forbidden to jump, but it's frowned upon because the dampers have to be replaced all the time.
The Feyenoord stadium in Rotterdam dances when the crowd is jumping. Lots of journalistst from other countries were terrified and thought there was an earthquake.
Also the pyro at the beginning of the match is so impressive.

You have the college fans that are the top of crazy fans for you, but still there is no comparison. This is why you saw a few videos of the USA and way more from us. Bless you American sister.
In Europe, the club fans see themself as a family, a brotherhood, a tribe, that's extreme loyal to the club name and flag! I know because my father was one of them. He was extremely passionate about his football/soccer team. I don't see that in the U.S. regarding any sport. The only thing I could compare it to in the U.S. would be the brotherhood formed within the military. If you served in the military, I hope you can understand what I mean.
As an Englishman that is a brilliant explanation, it really is one huge tribe. You are born into a family and whatever team your siblings/parents support, you are automatically adopted into that tribe, you have no say in the matter. 😂You are raised to love that team no matter what and build a strong dislike for your rivals. If your team loses that week it ruins your entire week, if you win it just automatically makes you happy for the rest of the week. I support Liverpool just like my brother, sister, father and my grandad and when we won the Premier League for the first time in 30 years the level of euphoria and celebration was unexplainable. You could go as far to say that football is like a religion in Europe and South America, whereas in the US it just seems like entertainment. Just the fact that it's called soccer in the US is enough to explain the difference I would say, it's simply unacceptable to call it anything other than football outside of the US.
In Greece they are huge gangs basically who all have love for each other...usually are poor kids who found a brotherhood...the sad part is thsy they are all criminals and crazy they Stab each other every week and fight for territory they do raids and ambushes to each other for control of drug market snd influence of pwer etc etc....I myself have been attacked many times for wearing wrong colours at wrong places...

Amanda you are right I think about the fact that both are very proud of their teams, but the problem in America is that clubs can't relegate and if you pay a lot of money your in the MLS. But in Europe every point is important because teams play for relegation/promotion, for European qualification and the Championship ofcourse so there is a lot more to play for and so is the need for fans to back their team up.
also, the match can still be decided up until the last moment, not always, but WAY more than in american football
I visited a German cousin 2-3 years ago & watched Mainz 05 play Dortmund. The cheering & chanting last the whole game, whereas in UK it tends to die down & only last 5 or 10 minutes in one go.
And Mainz is a dwarf when it comes to Fans. Can get way better
You must have been to some crap games in the UK. Newcastle, Aston Villa, Millwall, Nottingham Forest, Wolves, Leeds fans etc all sing throughout the game.

Compared to Europe, the US passion seems so... choreographed. I'm guessing the positive nature of the chants possibly comes from the history of college and school "fight songs". The European fans just go for it. No need for any kind of cheerleader (pun intended). The passions is real and raw.
I think the difference is that sports culture in the US is top down, while in europe it's bottom up.
In europe most clubs were founded by the working class and even those most who have now have become billion dollar enterprises still have their roots in poor people of a town or suburb banding together to play a sport. The fan scene does reflect that. They believe it's their club to some degree and tend to have a strong voice affecting how a club is run, they organise themselves and come up with their own chants and means of expression. It's a fan culture that has grown over generations.
In the US most clubs don't have that, they were founded by some wealthy guy hiring people to play, there isn't such a strong historical connection between the club and the town or its people. In the US the owner can just pack up things and move a club to a different town and change their name, in europe that's inconceivable. US fans don't believe its their club, they are far less organized and the attachment to a club isn't generational. They are being entertained just like the fans in europe, but they don't have that feeling of belonging/ownership.

I do remember that some 30 years ago American football was advertised as "family friendly" in Germany. Like a sunday afternoon picknick. It took a long time and a major tsports broadcast to boost the sport.
Last year the crowd in Munich did impress even veteran players and coaches by bringing quite a big chunk of european passion about sports to the game.

Europe, central America & South America all incredible. Having seen the atmosphere River Plate & Boca produce when they play, that must be hard to beat.
Lately there was a Soccer match between Eintracht Frankfurt and SSC Napoli and in the whole city of Napoli Frankfurtfans were banned cuz italian police was affraid that they cannot protect either the Frankfurtfans and the Napolifans. Nevertheless 800 Frankfurtfans went to Napoli and it was really scary. There were Streetfights between both fanbases and the Police. You have to go see the videos. It was brutal

Football fans are tribal but in Europe teams are closer together so the intensity is greater when you have 1000's of rival fans in the stadium. In the US teams are more spread except for few instances of 2 teams from the same city means you get a better away support.

I've been to watch football matches in many European countries and the US, as well as the UK. Nothing beats the atmosphere at stadiums in Germany, Italy and Spain. The absolute best atmosphere I ever experienced was at the old (now gone) Estadio Vicente Calderon, in Madrid, when I watched Atletico Madrid v Barcelona. The whole place was shaking and rocking!

I think the same seems to apply with music also, if you watch videos of huge stadium concerts in continental Europe the atmosphere and everything is amazing, then watch a video from same tour in UK or US and it feels flat in comparison. Just my opinion but I'm going to put my theory to the test this summer hopefully!!

Our own home support is electrifying with megasize flags, big tifo displays and flares.
We sing for 2 hours straight minus 15 minutes at half time break.

All the clubs in America are franchises. The fans can get as excited as they like but they know, absolutely, that a couple of bad years and the club might just leave. That simply doesn’t happen elsewhere. Our clubs might have terrible decades of performance but they won’t “move”. They are literally part of the community they’re in.
US "soccer" crowds seem a little less uncouth, but nothing beats a Six Nations rugby crowd - all mixed 100% fun.

British football is tribal. It's a religion here (and in most of Europe). It's not just the love of your club, it's the hatred of other clubs. Rightly or wrongly, that's just how it is. That's why you can see the passion. Their heart belongs in that stadium, whereas, and I may very well be wrong, and apologies if I am, most US fans would go home disappointed and then be sound 30 minutes later. It doesn't work like that in Britain/Europe. It's a heartbeat
In Europe our teams are part of our family and we love them from a young age. My dad took me to my first game when I was 5 and 33 years later I still suport them in better or worse.

The thing is that european clubs stand for something. They have an identity that did not change for generations and is not shaped by people from the outside. These clubs are the center of many comunities connected with you city, social group, culture and political views. You dont choose your club the club chooses you based on who you are and where you are from. It is your city vs my city, your cluture vs my culture, rich vs poor and left vs right. Some clubs and comunities go along well. Others don't because they don't fit or fight for power to represent a region

The thing about the chanting in UK football grounds is that its largely spontaneous, or not organised as such.

Every football club in Europe has its own stadium song. You could hear some of them in the videos. Every fan knows the song, of course, and with it they greet their team and say goodbye to them after the game. Sometimes these are pop songs or children's songs with new lyrics, but sometimes it is the original as well.
Liverpool fans, for example, always start the game by singing "You'll Never Walk Alone". It's especially touching when they sing the song after the game, even though Liverpool lost.
You could also hear some national anthems in the video, which are usually sung along loudly.
And the shouted "Hu!" accompanied by clapping, which starts slowly and then gets faster and faster, comes from Iceland. This is how the Icelandic fans support their team. Some fans of other nations thought it was so great that it has since been adopted by them as well.
There are also a few songs intended to "annoy" the opposing team. For example, when the fans of a team playing against FC Bayern Munich sing to the tune of "Yellow Submarine": "Zieht den Bayern die Lederhosen aus " ("Undress the Bavarians from their Lederhosen").
But this kind of singing is rather rare. Usually the chants are for your own team to support them.

Professional American soccer teams have only been around for 20-30 years whereas some European football clubs date back to the late 1800's. They've had a lot longer to cement team loyalties and perfect their chants.

One thing that helps with team loyalties is that teams are named after and eternally are part of the city they started in.
This whole way American teams hop cities makes sense from a hyper capitalist perspective, but imho not from the perspective of fostering and automatically maintaining city and team fanbases.

Amanda , the one from Sevilla in Spain is missing, the whole stadium sings acapella, it is considered the best soccer anthem in the world, seriously that one cant left!
Usually in Madrid police keeps visitor team fans in a wide area before the match, and the guide them to the stadium safely, so they don’t mix with the rival fans. They separate them in a different zone of the stadium and they get in sooner than the locals. They also stay in it for a little bit after the end of the match.
There can be problems with individuals, but this system usually works very well.
In European football leagues fans are alot more tribal, everybody knows the songs, the banter, there's promotion and relegation, therefore there's much more jeopardy, the atmosphere is very gladiatorial with high stakes because the battle occurs at both ends of the league ie bottom teams could end up beating the the top teams and this makes for an intense match experience.
There's a similar video on Basketball fans and I'm afraid to say there is just no comparison European fans be wild!

7:55 this clip is mental and needs context. This is an away game for Malmo, so it's not their arena. It's not just any away game though, this is vs Chelsea so it's not even in their own country. Those fans had to fly there. And they're losing the game, cheering on their team while losing putting the home fans to shame. This lasted the full 90+ min.

In the U.S it's all about the spectacle and show making it feels very forced and stiff. Football in Europe is about passion and heart and every win or loss decides how your week is going to be for alot of people. It's at a completely different level here and it just can't be compared to the U.S.

Sadly, I so far have no first-hand experience in attending US soccer (in Europe: football) / American football / NBA / baseball matches or Indy 500 races but I surely would love to. Coming from Finland and from Europe, it would be a welcomed experience for me.
We should take into consideration that events such as European soccer/football matches etc., they are not only sports events but they have history dating back even to the ancient Roman times. They have elements of carnival, passion and love for the sports and the teams. For many fans, their clubs and the matches are the reason they live for.
As a funny thing, one of the teams' supporters' songs is based on the theme song of a Swedish children's TV series "Pippi Longsocks". 👍🏻

General difference, hooliganism was/is more of a problem in the UK/Europe; sure you might get the odd riot in the US when a hockey team or whatever wins/loses, but across the pond there's more animosity between fans.
Except in America when the home team wins the championship whether it be hockey or basketball etc where they totally vandalize and destroy their own city. Except in new York when the rangers won the Stanley cup. No violence or destruction.
The fans don't smash up as much in the UK after the match 🤷♂️

In Germany there are about 127917 football clubs. Every small town hast at least one. My hometown has about 25000 residents. And 6 Clubs playing in different leagues stages. And none of them are related to a school or Something Like that. Edit: also most clubs have youth Teams divided in age groups also playing in a League system
I think to sum it up, North American fans are enthusiastic while European and South American teams are passionate. It is their life, it is their soul. Americans may get to be the same. But it will take time as its still a new thing there.
As a European and certainly one who is glad to live here, sports is one of those areas where I deeply and sincerly respect and admire the Americans' way of thinking. Violence among the fans of various sports clubs is almost unheard of in the US. Most Americans see sports as entertainment, not some zealous pseudo-religious cult that defines ones identity, as is all too often the case in Europe.
Instead of this, both sides in politics vandalize shops when their _heroes_ aren't elected. It wasn't just when Biden won... the other side smashed shops 4 years earlier when Trump won.
In europe most people just say, _ok,_ so this or that guy won.
US: "Bro, I got tickets, we are going to see the game tonight."
Europe: "Bro, I got tickets for tonight's game. We are going to waaaar, broooo!!!!!"
You can't teach that passion, it's just in the European bloodline, football is a way of life.

Having attended a few US sporting events and UK football matches I think the US has the better entertainment day out with tail gating and food/drink ordered to your seat. Whereas in football in the UK it's full on about the match. You might have a couple of pints pre-match in a nearby pub but then it's chanting or singing to encourage your team with known songs or abusing the opposition team!
I can’t speak for UK Fans but I can say that especially in the Deep South it’s mostly about the Tailgating experience. Tailgating on Saturdays before a favorite College team is quite the social experience. The Southeastern Conference in College sports has some fantastic tailgating venues and the assortment of food and drink it’s absolutely amazing. It’s not just BBQ either here it’s gumbo, jambalaya, crawfish, deer sauce picante, pork, fish, duck, and other assorted wild game fresh from the bounty of Nature’s abundance. Everyone invites anyone nearby to be a guest, hospitality is #1 and no one goes away hungry or thirsty and if your team is on the losing end the tailgating goes on and more beer goes along way in healing the pain of a loss to your most bitter rival. 😂

I have to say I really enjoyed watching American football when in the US. In the UK, football (soccer) and rugby are pretty well all-male events, but in the US I felt really comfortable (except when our team was losing!) Super atmosphere.
Plenty of Women go to Football and Rugby in UK.

I'd say in Europe, or at least in Germany, many chants are about the passion, love and history of the clubs. Not just, "We are the best" (though of course, that too) but somehow, "you should know, WHO WE ARE and What we've been through". And like in England many are mocking the other teams, as well. There's a funny chant from Union Berlin, where they chant, "Wir sind eure Hauptstadt, ihr Bauern!" Which means, "We are your capital, you farmers!", as Berlin is Germany's capital. And every time, that's hilarious. The difference has to do with the history. Most clubs in Europe have over 100 years of history. So there's legacy, love and history.
