One of the neat thing about being a Christian is we can stand in the presence of God because of what Christ did on the cross.
I CRY WHEN I HEAR THIS ITS LIKE YOU KNOW ITS MEANT FOR THE ONE WHO DIED FOR US ALL. YESHUA JESUS OUR MESSIAH!!!
This hymn is my favorite. It came to me when I was at my lowest moment... not in church, but in a McDonald's of all places. I was struggling with self-doubt and the state of my salvation; I felt like I had blown it. But then, the instrumental of this hymn played over the PA as if to say "I'm here".
This hymn has since become my prayer, expressing my desire for Jesus to be sovereign of my life; that I want His will first, not my own.
Once saved; always saved. It is the free gift of God; the gift of his son Jesus. Some people say that accepting Christ as Lord and savior is the easiest part of the Christian Life. I find myself in a state of mild disagreement. I say "mild disagreement", and what I mean is simply that for some it may be the easiest moment of their christian walk; however for others it may actually the most difficult moment of their lives. Jacob wrestled with the Angle of the Lord ( God/Christ) and was blessed with a name given directly with the Lord.
Sometimes it can be hard to know for a certainty that you are saved. In my case I have had times where I have doubted in my salvation, but then the Lord does a modern day miracle... he reminds me of all the times that he's helped me by answering my prayers. He answers us almost always through our Bibles, and when we aren't in them as often as ought to be; then of course we will be beset upon by the enemy.
It is when doubt hits, when fear and anxiety merge into a maelstrom within, and when anger boils our blood as a solar flare might; that we need to fully focus on the Lord. Easier said than done most of the time. Christ tells us himself that there are times to "remove yourself into the wilderness.." ( paraphrased ). Meaning " Go off by yourself, and meet with me alone. Tell me your heart, and when you can't speak for yourself; then the Spirit will speak for you unto me. Learn of me, and what I demand of my children. Spend time only with me, and with all of your undivided attention on me. "
I don't mean for this to sound like a mini-sermon; if it does then my apologies. I simply felt compelled by our mutual Lord and savior to share my thoughts. It's not easy most of the time, and when the devil rears his wicked head it's next to impossible. So I will pray for you, and I will pray specifically that God will lead you to verses that will help you with your doubts.
At times when we question our faith and salvation; it is a good practice to take a inventory or take stock of our lives. What are we doing in our lives; that does and will affect it in some way? Are we doing out best to follow Christ, or are we going through the motions to save face and appearance? I struggle with those questions myself... " Am I doing enough for God, or am I serving in vain; because I'm not honest about things?
Once again you will be in my prayers, and I hope that you will be led swiftly to the answers that your soul is seeking.
I will pray that he helps with any areas of life where you're struggling. God bless you, and keep you from all harm!
I am 33 weeks pregnant with a baby boy, and just released from the hospital yesterday. We spent two days there because of preterm labor. Long story short, I am making a playlist of songs for baby to calm him, and I have added this beautiful version of "Be Thou my Vision." It is helping to calm my spirit, and although he isn't here yet, music helps him to stay calm in the womb. Thanks for sharing your talent with the world!

My favourite hymn of all time. When I was a boy at school I read the words to the school in assembly several times. I am now nearly 70 and it still brings tears to my eyes. I fact today I was telling my wife about your recording when we were in the car and I started crying again. Music truly has the power to move people. This is probably the finest version I have ever heard, thank you!

Men will see visions. What is that vision? To reach lost souls for the Gospel of Salvation. For them to be Saved by Grace. God's Will. For every tonge and tribe to confess with there mouth of there sins and believe Jesus is Lord our God.
I imagine this hymn being sung by king David. It has become a morning routine of mine to listen to this hymn and the words everyday before going to work.

one of my favorite versions of this beautiful hymn! I found a good historical commentary of the origin and development of this hymn in the internet. It goes back to at least the 8th century, and the melody is a secular Irish tune.

A dozen of years ago, for almost a whole year, every day and every night, whenever available, I had the cd player playing this hymn over and over, sometimes for hours, which did eventually bring me out of the darkest time in my life.

It is not a praise and worship song! Those are insipid. This was an old Irish HYMN from back in the day when people gave God their best, not the shallow, bland trash you hear in fundamentalist churches today!

My mother of 93 passed away to the sound of this, her favourite hymn. The simplistic message of the hymn epitomised my mothers simple faith, a personal one between her and her maker. Through all the upheavals of her long life she never complained and always smile. But her faith was a personal one which we never were allowed to intrude on. When she passed and at her funeral this was sung, at that moment my harsh relationship with her softened, and I saw her for the very first time.
Outstanding. Inspiring. Purity. Gives me vision for leading my small chilrden in the paths of righteousness.
