    They were my favorite team as a kid. Never heard of them until one Saturday they were on CBS and they were playing LSU who was a team I followed because they had two generational talents. I remember watching the pregame and whoever the announcers were did a great job of hyping up Loyola Marymount and really made me want to watch so I did. By halftime I had all the LMU players memorized. By the end of the game they were my favorite team even though they lost.

    Second-most awesome part of this is Clark Kellogg just giggling to himself every time Fryer shoots.

    Jeff and I were close friends at CDMHS. He and his teammates were operating on serious emotion all things considering as what had just happened with Hank-much courage and heart.....

    Some of my best days watching you ball. You, Hank (RIP) and Bo. Truly an honor to be there .

    The guys calling this gm were Greg Gumbel and Quinn Buckner. Not Clark Kellogg. Not being critical just giving credit where it’s due.

    Wow, I guess it's been a long time! As a Hoosier I should know that. But the premise holds. I love the giggling.

    I remember watching this, had it on VCR tape and must have watched it 100 times when I was a teenager.....what good memories, what a special team they had. Even gave my LSU Tiger with Shaq and Chris Jackson a run for their money

      In that LSU game Fryer played terrible otherwise they would have won going away. iirc he was like 5-23 from 3. LMU still took LSU to OT playing that poorly.

    As a Michigan fan I hate to see this but Damn Fryer was on Fire that game..

    This was quite possibly the most dominant college basketball performance ever....against the defending national champions, no less. I wonder how much of this game was just pure adrenaline on the part of Fryer and LMU. Still get chills watching it!

    It is still the greatest display of shooting the basketball i have ever seen besides Larry Bird getting 60 on the Hawks.

      Todays basketball is nothing but a 3 point shooting contest, in this era Fryer did this with a pressing defense.

      @@adamfitzgerald911 Pressing defense??? Most of his shots were wide open

    One of the very rare upsets with the underdog winning by 20 or more point (I can think of another very well-known example of such games)

    Quite a system Paul Westhead had at Loyola Marymount. Player for player, Michigan should've been much better and certainly not a knock on them, but most importantly, it was the strength and support for the fallen Hank Gathers that had LM prevail.

    Was a huge fan of that ‘89 Flying Illini team so needless to say watching Michigan get their ass kicked the following year was deeply satisfying.

    Do you have the full version of this game? The version the ncca account posted cuts away from the game twice in the 2nd half.

      @pashapeddler  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I don't. None of Fryer's made 3s occurred during the cutaways, so I got lucky using the ncaa copy.

      Jeff Kelley Damn I’m starting to think I’ll never find that one. I’m trying to find as many full Loyola Marymount games that I can but there’s not too many on TH-cam.
