Newman is an excellent captain. I like the way he states his answer. Not rising inflection but confident downward inflection.

21:26 If only Amol had said "you may not discuss"! Not sure if Reading noticed, but there is a burnt bear on their table. Also, there is an entire episode on Moorcroft's shirt by Seinfeld. That said, Moorcroft was the star of today's show.

Thanks a bunch, wonderful CP! As for the match itself, I got a shockingly high number of answers (namely 15), which means that the questions were comparatively easy this time around. Usually, I only get one - if I am lucky! Exeter produced real teamwork and everyone contributed! Carr stood out to me, though! She seems wonderfully tenacious.

Hello again! The losing team put up a good fight in the middle, but was blitzed in the beginning and the end. And so we say goodbye to them. The winning team is a force to be reckoned with. My best to both teams, and to each individual.

Not many starters-for-ten answered - 18 in total which is lower than average, but 24/33 is mighty fine work from Exeter. We're definitely not seeing Reading again - second round continues to be set up nicely with how the scores are coming in ;). I also make it that 6/7 qualifying teams have bonus rates of 2/3 or more. Only Wadham, Oxford from 2 weeks back had one below that - not sure what it means but let's hope it continues ;).

Interestingly the expression "to cock a snook" is not as much fun as it may suggest. Its just the action of putting thumb to nose and waving fingers is a childishly insulting way, which im sure Exeter never would do. Its also a fish.

Cheating surely having a guy as old as the bizarrely named Newman in the Exeter team. Why not make it for undergraduates between the ages of say 18 and 25? I get a moderate number of the questions, but often simply because of being a lot older I was at 20!

Yes, but if you look at the real standouts of UC over the years they have all been undergradauate age (Monkman, Seagall, Trimble, Blackman, Zeng, etc.) With the older students there is the tendency to forget what they came into the television studio for . . . Anyway, I suspect the BBC is as loathe to announce a policy of blatant ageism as the next publically funded broadcaster. Peace from Canada.

Well no it isn't, because they don't necessarily do better than younger players. In 2018-19 a team with an average age of 19 beat a mature college from Cambridge in the semi-finals. I don't think Imperial hasn't had a single player over 30 in its previous 4 appearances
