I have owned Comete for almost a month and I find it a very suitable, work friendly scent. I have received many compliments from my male friends. Iris is my favorite note used in fragrance. I have mostly worn Comete during the day and 31 Rue Cambon in the evening. I haven’t reach for 1957 since I’ve own Comete 😮. I Love your use of the word “stardust”. I agree.
I actually got the opportunity to sample Comete by chance yesterday. Given the negative opinions I'd read, I found myself pleasantly surprised when I sprayed it. The almond (cherry blossom I am less sure of...) is very nicely done, if a little short lived, and the whole perfume flows beautifully. Funnily (in the context of your reviews), I also found it far more akin to Cuir de Russie than I did Le Lion to CdR. In fact I'd go as far as to say it's like a more modern/streamlined CdR to my nose! In that sense, I was very much impressed. The problem, however, is the price. The bubble has to burst at some point for all our sakes - the level of exploitation (and that *is* what Chanel's current pricing structure is) has gone through the roof. It's fundamentally damaging to society. In my view companies are creating artificial 'scarcity' through ridiculous prices whilst, at the same time, leaning heavily in to 'aspirational' marketing that encourages people to spend money they can't really afford to feel like they're a success. In days of yore, I suspect a luxury perfume would be released as 50ml, 30ml or even a 15ml so that it was at least somewhat available to all members of society.
We were just in Paris and our SA at 31 Rue Cambon gave us a healthy 5-7ml decant of Comete and we got a 4ml from an SA at LBM. It’s a nice aldehyde forward scent that will find fans.
Currently I am working on the future ESA mission Comet Interceptor. When we launch, I will gift this scent to myself. It's calling me and seems a beautiful connection between my hobby and my job :-)

And it wasn't that long ago. Fortunately, I live close to a Chanel boutique, so checking out Comete will be free and you also made me want to give Le Lion another chance.
Chanel fragrances are always worth the investment, they are the epitome of fine fragrance. Like a lot of them I'm never too keen on the first spray as I find them too aldehydic/ powdery but dry down beautifully. Love this one, very complex yet fresh, like walking through a late summer meadow! The iris is soooo pretty.

Smelled Comete yesterday at a Chanel event in Singapore… Comete to me is heliotrope forward and isn’t as complex as say, Le Lion. It reminds me much of Teint de Neige EDP… Which is more complex and texturally denser in a lovely way. The challenge I have in particular is given it’s high price point, I am happier with Teint de Neige EDP
IMO this perfume is a Masterpiece. 405 Euro for the big 200 ml- Bottle is pricey but for me, it is worth the money. Great on its own but also good to combine(layering) with other perfumes, for ex with No.5 EdP (or No.5 extrait).
Our anniversary was a few days ago, and I asked my husband for Le Lion in order to have the pleasure of smelling it on him 😂 (I’ll wear it sometimes, too.) What a fabulous perfume!
Thanks for the great review. Can’t wait to get it this week. I adore Coromandel, number 22 and Jersey.. I do not see Jersey as being sweet, I can’t do very sweet perfumes. You should try Jersey again. it may surprise. You 😅😉
Oh, I'm going to love it. no doubt. // Funny, I only recently smelled Bleu in parfum version, husband was sampling, and *was I ever* surprised by how much I enjoy it! ... didn't expect that one. But even Bleu at $160 for 1.7 oz is something that has to be thought about twice, thrice & again ... because, ya know ... groceries. I hate having to prioritize over perfume! 🙃 (of course that is a joke. I think.)
My only complaint with an Exclusifs offering is the performance of Coromandel. I quite like the scent, but find the projection, sillage and longevity to be woefully lacking. For these prices performance should measure up to the price. Next time I'll opt for Xerjoff's Richwood.
@@Persolaise Indeed, Ambre Nuit 125 ml was 180€ in 2020, now it's 265€. Guerlain l' Art was 295 for a 100 ml bottle in 2021, now it's now it's 335€. Sadly the only thing that has not increased that fast is my salary, so now I'm buying only decant lol.
