WATERCOLOUR colour MIXING Tutorial Part 2: NEUTRALS & BROWN from COMPLEMENTARY colours | Elephant
ฝัง

- What are complementary colours on the colour wheel and how do you use them to mix browns and neutral shades that aren't dull or muddy?
In this tutorial I explain what is meant by complementary or contrasting colours and show you how I use orange and blue to mix some lovely neutral greys and browns for my painting of an Indian elephant.
If you are a beginner or new to watercolour, you may have tried mixing your own greys and browns and been frustrated when all you get is a muddy looking, dull colour- but in this video I explain why that can happen and what you can do to fix the problem. Colour theory can seem a bit overwhelming sometimes but knowing a few of the basics will really help you to get the colours you want in your artwork so I hope you enjoy the video and find it helpful.
If you have any comments or questions then I'd love to hear from you so drop me a comment in the box below and I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible.
Thank you so much for watching,
Take care
Sarah

Hi Sarah, I'm confused. Would the Daniel Smith Transparent Pyrrol Orange PO71 be close enough to the WN Transparent Orange to use? WN lists this color pigment as DPP, a proprietary blend that they're not publishing so that other manufacturers can't copy it. I'm trying to use paints that I already own to follow along with your demo. Thanks in advance!
Hi Michelle! Yes, I think your Daniel Smith PO71 would be a good alternative. Take care and enjoy your painting 😊
