How do you soften a stiff cord?

Thanks for the details on the tips and clasp. However, I'm a little nervous about using even 5-minute (not the strongest bond) is used. Still epoxies generally don't want to come apart. Was the tip you removed held with 5 minute epoxy?

Greetings Richard, Yes the bolo tie used in this video was held with a 5 minute epoxy (Devcon 5 minute epoxy adhesive) Can be found at hardware stores and Walmart. As I mentioned in the video in the olden days we used this cement to hold on our metal hunting tips to our wooden arrows for bow hunting. Very strong wood to metal bond. It sets in 5 minutes, and hardens very hard in 24 hrs. However when you apply low temp heat (match) or cigarette lighter it will release when applied to the metal portion. It will crystalize on the metal if a person wanted to scrape the crusted epoxy (plastic crumbs) away from the metal. I haven't found that necessary however. The sharp prongs at the wide end of the bolo tip (the one's you might have had to bend out to remove the tip) also can also help hold the tip securely. You can try this technique on a small leather shoe string (scrap) and a small tube or spent 22 cal. cartridge to test how it will hold and remove to make sure it functions to your satisfaction. Hope this helps.

@@patrickfrausto9866 Thanks for the video! I need to shorten the cord and I want to save the nice original sterling silver tips. Can I use a multi-purpose lighter? I'm nervous about heating the tips. Does that damage, or stain the tips?
