    We've twin locked the LC150 Prado and love it. So glad we went from none to both, getting just the rear would have been nice, but having both has been great. The tracks are ultra smooth and keeps the vehicle safer and less prone to pop a wheel and break something. Spent the money and invest in twin lockers for sure if you are going to install anything.

    Interesting how you said you were going to myth bust a patrol with front locker + lsd rear but then didn't actually subject it to the same test as the Toyotas. Having a front E locker myself I'd say it's because the patrol would walk up that little hill without an air leaker. Good unbiased advice mate.

    great vid, have an ARB airlocka in my rear and she is great. Best part and great myth buster on shimming the rear and getting a front locka. No one out there really showing everyone what really happens with locka's. Won't tell you what my front Lokka is, but I will get around to installing it soon. Once again great vid..

    I have a problem with ARB lockers. The twin washers inside the air line ring (seal housing) mounted onto the axle spline gear (bearing journal) is so low quality. They begin to leak after a year and start to pump your diff oil out to the air pump and now you have an oil leak from your air pump. And when the leak increases with more wear, your lockers stop locking. You have to dismantle the whole diff to change those washers. And guess what, those also wear and here we go again. They are constantly subjected to friction when the axles are moving. This is a big big design weakness. I prefer electrically operated lockers now.

    It’s crazy how this nearly 10 minute video of Air lockers just showed everyone how extremely underrated Toyota’s really are, that Toyota needed 4WD engaged and front and Rear airlockers to get up that tiny simulated hill and it struggled to do that, done hill climbs way steeper then this done in 2WD on dry dirt with no run up with so much less traction then this solid clean simulated hill, apart from that, ARB Airlockers are great I haven’t needed to use them much but when I do they get me out of every situation and that’s just with a rear air locker!

      Cool! You just answered the question I’ve had in researching all this! My dad who sold/drove the ol Scout IH Ii swears a no slip rear diff is as good as 4x4. I’ve been wanting to have 4x4 installed in an older van Ford I finally found with no rust & low miles. A rare combo!!! But the cost is exorbitant AND it kills you on weight, fuel mileage & in Cali your now a commercial vehicle, blah, blah , blah.
      I want to drive distance on freeways and go off road deep! I do believe this is the answer. ARB air lockers! Wahoo!

    Great video! Love the lsd ending. 😀

  • @Elesde2
    @Elesde2 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Cool video, but LSD’s work better as more power is given to them, as the high speed in the diff pushes out on the clutches harder, thus helping the lsd work better. So yea, when the clutch is slowly let out at idle, it’ll act like an open diff, because it’s designed to do that at low power inputs. But give it a bit of curry and a shimmed lsd will certainly help in a real off-road situation. Certainly still no difflock but is a great way to save a bit of money if someone can only afford 1 locker. Try not to let sponsors get in the way of facts and you won’t loose any credibility. Keep up the good work!

    Do you usually lose traction on front or rear first?

    • @SeriousSchitt
      @SeriousSchitt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're in 2 wheel drive (one on the front, one on the back) then, once one wheel brakes lose (say, on the rear axle) then 'a' wheel on the other 'front' axle will lose traction simultaneously. If you're in 4 wheel drive, then once you lose traction to one wheel, you usually lose traction to all four all at the same time!

    • @JS-tb9hu
      @JS-tb9hu 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SeriousSchitt Are you sure? In 4Low most cars have the centre differential locked resulting in 50/50 power split front and rear. That means 50% of the cars power is going to the front axle at any time. So if both tyres have grip they will both be powered, however if one is on a slippy surface (or in the air) then only one of the front tyres will have power hence one won't turn (the one in the air/in mud will spin as it's easier).

    • @JS-tb9hu
      @JS-tb9hu 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SeriousSchitt Also 2wd will power both rear wheels (in most cars) not one front and one rear

    • @SeriousSchitt
      @SeriousSchitt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JS-tb9hu Yeah I’m positive cobba. In your first response to me it sounds like you’ve got a pretty good grasp on how the system works except you seem to not be grasping what 1, 2, 3 & 4 wheel drive actually is. Maybe this will help you understand? See at 8:50 he’s referring to that as being in 2wd when in actual fact he is only in ’1’! Just count how many wheels are actually driving. Now, you are correct in that, in certain circumstances when the diff is in a straight line on dry tarmac and the star’s align, you can get both wheels to drive on the same axle but, how often are you ever in that position, especially when you’re out for a bash in the boonies and desperately needing it that way? You “quickly” but surely come to the stark reality that your supposed 4 wheel drive, is actually only a two wheel drive (usually one on the front and one of the back).

    • @SeriousSchitt
      @SeriousSchitt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fuck, has this phone prematurely published this comment? Anyway, your second comment is totally opposite to what I’ve experienced. A two wheel drive will only power one wheel on the front and only one ☝️ on the rear. My 2003 Hilux SR5 was only a two wheel drive (maximum) when I bought it, but I’ve now turned it into a four wheel drive ‘maximum’ and the usual one wheel drive ‘minimum’ with anything in between. It gets quite confusing but I learned all this the hard way. It’s easy for a vehicle manufacturer to put big bold lettering on the side of the truck “4WD” and on the gear shifter etc, but talk is cheap and it’s usually only a two wheel drive maximum, hence the one on the front and one on the back! Hope this helps.
