    The honesty you have is amazing. So many new divers will ok sign and never talk about how uncomfortable they are at times and need to. Amazing video great work and keep diving 👏

    I really enjoyed this as you addressed all those worries and doubts which I still have. Many things need training so your instructors were doing a good job. Kind of reminds me of skiing. Takes lots of practice

    Pretty sure I'll never be a diver, so it was super cool to experience it vicariously through you. I loved that you walked us through your thoughts and uncomfortable moments - I was able to better appreciate and celebrate your success that way. 💕

    Hey Christine! I'm a Divemaster from Australia. Don't stress about your buoyancy. The more and more you dive the more it you will get the hang of it. Just takes practice. You will end up controlling it without even thinking about it.
    How great is diving! So addictive! Haven't had a chance to dive in Thailand, but have done quite a bit around Bali and Lombok. Its quite good!

    Great video! I love how eco friendly this company is too. I'm planning to get my open water diving certification here on Jeju Island later this fall and I can't wait to get into it! Happy to see you getting over your fear and gaining a new appreciation for the ocean ^^

    • @grrrltraveler
      @grrrltraveler  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +PatMax Adventures I what Jeju oceans look like! Driving consecutively definitely helped me hook into scuba in the ocean a whole lot more than a one day fun dive.
      Yah. The responsible tourism part was a huge selling point for me. So many boats or ocean outfits are into feeding the fish in order to attract them to the boat so tourists can see them. That ruins the ocean ecosystem, coral life and people food isn't healthy for the fish either. 😢

    • @PatMaxAdventures
      @PatMaxAdventures 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's great that you show cased responsible tourism! I love the soap and other things they use to protect the local eco system there. When I go traveling in Thailand again, I would love to go on a dive with this company or one just like it.
      The oceans around Jeju are beautiful! I have been doing a lot of snorkeling this summer and have come across a lot of beautiful fish and other sea creatures. Though the coral and plant life is much different due to the colder climate here during the winter.

    • @grrrltraveler
      @grrrltraveler  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Surprisingly it wasn't Anna! My imagination played less on me than during the day (there's a part of me that always wonders what's below me... Jaws traumatized us all) But knowing that most fish are asleep at night and it's mostly crustaceans and stuff, kinda gives you peace of mind.

    • @grrrltraveler
      @grrrltraveler  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +handiediver Awww thanks Tucson!!! Wow, I wouldn't have thought of that region-- how was Bon Aire? What did you like about it that you'd recommend? =)

    • @handiediver
      @handiediver 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basically, I'm a paraplegic, but I love to travel & scuba dive. The most recent trip to BonAire I logged my 252nd dive. It took me about ten years to get that many. I also had a great deal of fear in the very beginning. I pledged to myself that I would overcome my fear and the main tool I used was/is self-hypnosis. Even now after all these years if I get into a situation where my breathing gets too fast or too shallow, self-hypnosis is the tool I use to slow down and think. Granted I'm just a recreational diver. In a rescue/technical situation I would have to depend on training but that is different. Even if I'm leading a group of divers, calming down via hypnosis works well, especially with a group of new divers. I'm not talking about some long hypnosis session underwater; I learned hypnosis under supervision in a controlled setting with a professional for quite a while first. Then, underwater, micro sessions are what helps me slow my breathing. Also, one good thing about being on the boat with all handi-divers is that we all go slow and the boat caption usually picks pretty easy spots. I published some more thoughts on my website www.handi-divers.com. Keep on Rockin; :-)

    Hey! What company did you dive with? I'm doing a boat called the manta queen 1 in a few weeks and getting my advanced cert onboard too. How was it getting your cert on board? Did it take away much from your trip?

    So awesome! I wanted to do this but I decided to jet to Bali instead (the reefs are amazing there as well, especially Menjangan island off Pemuteran). Had to save something for next visit right? ;)

    • @grrrltraveler
      @grrrltraveler  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +twistedyogi13 I did it reversed from you. I almost went to Flores! But flight costs pushed me back to Thailand. What area off Bali would you recommend. So want to return there

    • @twistedyogi13
      @twistedyogi13 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I loved Pemuteran, its a 3 hour drive from the airport so I started there and worked my way back south. Very chill place, Menjangan island had amazing reef life (unfortunetely a fair bit of trash in areas :/ ) I chose to snorkel over dive and was not disappointed. Its a fringing reef, they took us to two spots, one was much shallower than the other. The deep one was almost like a wall dive. I've got videos I need to put up. I've heard theres great diving/snorkeling off Nusa Lembongan islands as well, but didn't make it this trip. Ubud was cool, but *very* touristy.

    Nice video.
    I've done some day dives out of Phuket, but never a liveaboard.
    The day dives were pretty good, but a bit crowded sometimes.
    Have you done any travel in the Philippines yet? I've made some dives out of there, too. They have some really nice beaches and interesting sights and places to go.

    • @grrrltraveler

      I dove a few places there over the years.
      Apo Island: really nice dives. Take a ferry to island. Didn't overnight there, but it looked really cool.
      Bohol Island: kind of resort-ish (is that a word?), but some good dives there as well. Took a ferry there from Dumaguete. Also cool island to explore a bit.
      Malapascua Island off of Cebu: really nice. was there in 2009, but since then they had a typhoon hit a few years ago, but it's back up again I've heard.
      Boracay: very much a resort island, can be crowded, but some decent diving there.
      I've heard some really great diving off of Palawan, but haven't been there yet. Also heard it's a cool island to explore.
      I've also heard that Siargao Island is really cool and laid back. Don't know much about the scuba there, though.

      +Jacob Abraham you'll have to ask but that could be an issue. You have to fill out a health form. That year I had a lot of dust allergy cough attacks and took my inhaler with me ( a diff type of inhaler) I was so worried I might go into an unexpected coughing fit while diving. But the oxygen tank air was clean and thankfully all was good. Apparently you can vomit and cough while diving. Asthma, not sure.
