  • Howdy! A few things..
I did not stress this enough in the video: I ripped on this truck. I beat on it, full throttle accelerations almost daily. I off-roaded it monthly, mudded, got it stuck, towed with it. I beat the crap out of it. I did not treat it gently. But I did maintain it. I always waited for the engine to be warm before railing it. And I always changed the oil on it on time, fully syn. Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20.
Unfortunately at this time I no longer own the truck. Her name is Mrs. Gatsby. I miss her a lot but I have a 45 minute commute to work and sold it in place of a 06 Toyota Corolla manual transmission which has been even more reliable than the truck and also now has 250,000 miles. I miss it a lot, but I am glad I have the Toyota, it is more reliable, gets great MPG, and is a great beater car for work and daily driving. I am still in contact with gentlemen who bought the truck. Its still running great, he moved out of state. It still burns some oil.

I’ve been very pleased with my Ram 1500 so far, despite the bad wrap Chrysler gets overall this has hands down been the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned! Thank you Warren Truck Assembly in Detroit, MI for making such an awesome truck!! 😊

Thanks for the review. I agree these are awesome trucks., looking for a replacement for my Canadian 2010 Laramie 5,7 2wd. At 360,000 kms it's been an awesomely reliable truck. I still love it and it drives as good as it did when I bought it in 2015. Added Motorkote additive to the oil starting at 250 k and its been great , no ticks or chatters.super quiet motor.
Relatively rust free. Chronic issues are tie rod ends basically 50 k kms replace one or the other. Wheel bearings 5 on right 3 on left. Cooling system complete at 260k
Love this truck. I'm hunting a rare Breed now for a replacement , A 2018 Longhorn Southgate V6 2wd if I can find it.
Avoiding the Eco diesel and Air suspension. To much risk over reward for those of us that like to pile on the milage.
Best upgrade on my Truck was a set of Bilstein shocks at 300 k. What an amazing ride, that will be my first upgrade on the next Ram.
Oh .. want a cure for the manifold bolts snapping. Add a flex connector at the first coupling after the Y pipe.
The issue is the rotation of the motor , at startup and on and off throttle. All that suspended exh pipe is loading the rear undersized manifold bolts.
I had one rear stud pass side break at 75k we replaced that one stud. At 100k the driver rear manifold stud sputtered when cold but sealed up on warmup. My mechanic noticed this is the exact same routine on all 5.7 rams. Installed a flex connector after the Y. I've never had an issue again. Finally got rid of that cold puffing at 350k that one driver side rear stud.

I have a 06 ram only has a 3.7 but I got it with 8900 miles on it in 06.
    I now have 273xxxx.
It a 6spd manual. Two wheel.
Everything that normally goes out is still all original including clutch. The only thing I changed until recently is radiator and pinion seal.
Just about 2 months ago the fuel pump went out.
    So I can't complain.
    4 months ago I bought a 04 ram 4x4 quad cab hemi.
    Only had 109.500 on it.
Love this truck. Great condition. Love that hemi.❤
Part of my retirement plan this year.👍

    Great video 👍
I have a 2010 5.7 4x4 bighorn edition and it only has 68k on the odo. Use it for towing a 23' boat (6,500lbs) on the weekends and every year make a round trip from Melbourne FL to NJ.
Have not had any mechanical issues so far. Living 900ft from the beach the biggest problem is corrosion. Had to replace both fenders, rocker panels, and bumpers and had repair work done to the tailgate. Cleaned up the grounding lug on the fender and coated the connection. Bought truck new and purchased the Chrysler factory lifetime warranty ($3,500). Under that warranty the dealer replaced the digital display module (faded out), HVAC blower control and ballast resistor, water pump (water pipe to heater corroded) , both mirrors and the idler pulleys.
The one thing I really loveett about this truck is the rear coil suspension. This truck gives a ride better than most cars do. Great on long trips.
Hope to get another 15 years out of this truck. Love it

Then I had another two years later in August 2019 (Compressor). Had to replace the condenser fan in April of last year (2021). No more problems. But have a problem with my heater. I have heat on passenger side and not on driver side. Gonna look at that this fall before it gets colder. Might be a blend door actuator. My fuel pump went out at just before 130,000 miles. At the same time, I had to replace my alternator. All in all. No major issues. Love my truck.

I have a 2010 big horn 4x4 that has towed heavy loads it's whole life...6 to 10,000 lbs average.
It's one of my hot shot trucks used for lighter loads. It don't have the high mileage my newer Dodge duelys have because most loads are overweight for it and deemed illegal to use it by DOT.
Anyways, it has 153,000 miles on it and quit sever ones at that.
Never had a wrench turned on it except maintenance which I do myself.
Is it reliable? Do I trust it? Well just a couple weeks ago I had a load to pick up in Natchez, south Mississippi and take it through the mountains than up some mountains in north west Montana all most to Canada.
I had to haul a 6,500 lbs tractor, bush hog, auger attachment with extra augers, scraper blade, front loader attachment with bucket, and forklift attachment for loader, all on a heavy duty 24 ft. trailer.
I didn't think twice and jumped in the 2010 big horn. It pulled like a champ.
Got to admit I did get a bit concerned when I saw the roads start to look like they went straight up in the air, damn that's some serious hills to climb, and a shitload of them for a long time.
When I got up around Drummond in Montana I had to take back roads to go further in the mountains a good ways, then finally i got to the turn off to their mountain and its nothing but dirt and rock and the melting snow made mud in most places on the road. I had to travel one lane dirt roads that were built on ridges the whole way as I steadily was going uphill, and steep uphill most the time. I could see when I turned on to the road that it was as bad as they had said it was so I locked it in 4 low and hit it like I owned it.... you couldn't get a greased BB up my butt the whole way up that mountain.
Them switchbacks were tough to maneuver but it made it just fine.
That dirt road was 17 miles long. Locked in 4 low the whole way. The total distance loaded was 2,411 mi to get there and the same coming back unloaded with only 24 ft trailer tagging behind.
That is a day in the life of this 2010 4x4 Dodge. Still no problems with it to this day.

@@markm0000 Yea, definitely. I changed the oil $ filter, trans fluid and the 3 filters, put new brakes all the way around, didn't want to chance brakes because I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting into, , I never been to that type mountains before and I'm damn glad I did because that hemi might pull good up hills that steep but downshifting trying to use compression to slow down ain't happening with a good size load. It only works good in 4 low.
I changed my oil, filter, and trans fluid when I got back home to.
To be honest yes it's been a real good truck but I don't know if it's because of the truck or because of the oil I use.
I have used Amsoil in it since new after I broke the engine in with blended oil, full synthetic is to slick really to let the surfaces mate to bearings good enough I think,, so I wait till I put it in.
IM sure you heard of it and if not you ought to check it out. it garenteed to for a 25,000 mi oil ( but I don't go that far with it) I use it in everthing I own from my Harley to my lawnmowers to my trucks and never lost a motor yet.
If you do, I go online and go directly to the Amsoil company and buy it.
It makes it about the same price as Mobil 1, Royal Purple, and other that run $11-$13 per quart instead of having to pay almost $20 a qt if buying from a dealer.
It's also way better than those oils. This is the oil that for years only funny cars and 5000 hp rail jobs used but you couldn't find it to buy. You still can't buy it in a parts store, only from dealers or now the company website.
Damn, sorry such a long reply, I didn't realize it.

@@stanfordpittman1654 I know what you mean and you're definitely doing it right with that oil philosophy. I meant the fluids and filters that people don't really think about. Under bed water separator filter, power steering fluid, all serpentine belt accessory idler and pulley bearings, engine coolant, brake fluid, transmission pan filter, differential oil, axle bearing grease, and driveshaft ujoint grease. If you ever had the AC worked on they probably didn't add oil back into the system and that could cause engine HP and fuel economy loss. They make a injector tool just add a little to be sure it's ok. Also it's a really good idea to use fluid film and coat the entire underside of the truck and inside all the frame and body panels where salt will corrode over time no matter how much you try and power wash. Make sure you're washing the radiator and condenser really good with soap when you wash the truck. Good luck out there.

@@stanfordpittman1654 Haha I'm a equipment mechanic that likes learning about all the very little details and how machinery can be maintained way over its expected lifespan. My background is IT networks and a few years of owning a solo trucking authority. I have a old 2nd gen 24v from my dad and it's sadly starting to show it's age so I'm having to fix random stuff on that truck more often. That product is basically oil and wax mixture that you can spray under the truck to prevent road salt and water from touching the metal and causing rust. You could just as easily spray used engine oil under the truck and it would do the same thing but wash off in the rain.

Up to 200,000 miles on my 09. I've done two water pumps for tiny leaks (first time under warranty, second time was recent, and the shop gave me a hell of a deal).
I did also have a transfer case leak, which wasn't awful, except the part that was leaking was a Ram specific part which was like $400 something.
I have also had the actuator go out for switching the air direction in the cabin, which also wasn't a big deal, and was under warranty.
Other than that, the only thing plaguing me repeatedly is the manifold exhaust leak that these are infamous for. Fixed it once, it started again almost right away on one side, and the other started again about 6 months later. I guess a lot of people say you have to replace the headers to fully fix it, which is a bit of a pain.
Edit: also felt obligated to mention that I am not gentle with it, ever. I'm extremely impressed by how well everything has held up.

Plus I replace all the drive-through your balls now because I need to two but when I change the rear bearings I noticed a slight where on the spider gears But the wear in the gears we’re not excessive . I forget the name of it but there’s a product on the line that re-seals all your rubber seals so they don’t world and it works but I can’t remember the name. Played around with it a lot, but at the end I had long tubes 3" and routed the two pipes past the transmission (stock it goes right under and makes it a pain to change the fluid and there is plenty of room further down) to an X-pipe then Y-pipe to the sotck muffler and stock resonators. It sounded great but still quiet on the highway. Had a flow master 40 on there but it had a bad drone on the highway. long tubes to x-pioe is the way to go, x-pipe makes it sound better but quieter a bit at low RPMs. I didn't try the x-pipe to an aftermarket muffler, that may have been more quiet on the highway. I love a good truck sound but for me its a higher priority being quiet and not drawing public (and cops) attention to my self.

My son has a 2019 Ram and has never had any problem at all with it. I love the 8 speed trans

You have to make sure they put in OEM trans fluid, if they did not, do another one with the right kind

Waych my other video on the trans filter replacement. I had the same issue because they did not use OEM fluid

@@reaganhughes169 another thing to look at is calipers even though my brakes were fairly new I had one stuck guide pin on passenger side which gave me odd shifts, gear hunting, weird deceleration , slightly stiffer steering at times, Rough ride, just regreasing and cleaning fixed 60%of issue . The other 30% is calipers and fluid for sure as suspension and steering new. The truck doesn’t need to driven like I’m a pilot no more. But I’m changing the fluid and filters ASAP I’m firm believer the 5/6 speeds are picky

@@moemoe48210 Best thing I did to the 5 speed was bump up shifting pressure by about 30% if I remember when I had it dyno tuned. HP tuners. Made a world of difference, did not shift rough or hard, extremely smooth but snappy. Like the ZF-8 speed in the scat packs in sport or track mode on the transmission.

So on your keyboard there is this volume button. Turn the volume up. Or wear earphones. I watched this on my phone a minute ago and heard myself just fine. Look at the brand of eardrums you have. If you see the 'Ford' logo that might explain it. I go with Toyota eardrums now. Walmart has them cheap. Installation is expensive though.
