- Soldiers of Ukraine’s 3rd Assault Brigade launched a dawn raid near Bakhmut. Intense first-person footage shows them attacking Russian trenches at sunrise. Gunfire, artillery bursts, and grenades light up the darkness as troops charge forward. The Ukrainians make their way through Russian defences, clearing them out. Vicious close-quarters grenade and gun battles break out between the two sides. The battle is thought to have taken place in early September near the village of Andriivka. It is located to the south of Bakhmut, and has since been seized by the Ukrainians. Russia has been withdrawing some of its best troops from the area to reinforce elsewhere. And that has allowed the Ukrainians to advance again after weeks of stalemate.

Judging by the fact that artillery is working on the attackers, and the drone is directing artillery - the Ukrainians are very far from the Russian trenches and are unlikely to reach the minefield.

I think they actually shoot at one at one point and seem to cheer as though they hit it. At such a low height those could well be the FPV drones carrying shells that both sides are using. Insanely scary stuff.

@@wingchanger9960 That's because they almost never kill any Russians. The Russians leave one or two guys in the trenches. They are told to hold for a little then retreat. So when the Ukrainians take the trench its already pre sited for artillery. That is why the artillery in this video is so accurate. Its literally just two guns firing within 30 ft of where these Ukrainians were standing 2 minutes ago. The drones that they are shooting at are not trying to attack them. They are flying max speed over their head so that when they are directly over they can relay the GPS cord to artillery. So the UAF in this have to constantly move or they will die. But its likely 20% of them will die on any operation even if they never see a single Russian. They are outgunned and their command structure is near non existent.

The number of Ukrainian and Russian soldiers killed or wounded since the war in Ukraine began in February 2022 is approaching 500,000, the New York Times reported on Friday, citing unnamed US officials.
Officials warned that casualty figures remain difficult to estimate because Moscow is believed to routinely underestimate its war dead and wounded, and kyiv does not release official figures, the newspaper said.
Russian military casualties are approaching 300,000, of which 120,000 are dead and between 170,000 and 180,000 wounded, according to the newspaper. Ukrainian casualties are approaching 70,000, with between 100,000 and 120,000 injured, he adds.
The NYT quoted officials as saying the casualty count had risen after Ukraine launched a counterattack earlier this year.
The Ukrainian army on Thursday claimed progress in its counteroffensive against Russian forces on the southeastern front. Kiev said its forces had liberated a village, the first such success since July 27, signaling the challenge it faces in advancing through heavily mined Russian defensive lines without powerful air support.
