I agree, I let both cars warm up for what was more than enough time but I was limited on time and it takes a full 120 seconds from start up even if the engine is warm so there would be a very long wait lol. Maybe I can fast forward thru it.
BMW Genius Matt There should be a button in the boot to open up the valves (you can here a beep sound, when they open up), otherwise BMW offers a Bluetoothremote for that. At the beginning of the video you can see that the valves on the m performance exhaust are closed.
@@Mountie9999 that button does exist in the USA just look on any other mpe video on TH-cam and everyone talks about the bt remote that's included with the exhaust
@@swekiller98 These are two different things. As I own a 2018 M2 with the MPE in the meantime, I can confirm that there is no ADDITIONAL button in the trunk in the US like it used to be in EU. That button in the trunk in EU was in addition to the BT remote. Hope, this clarifies :)
Another great video. This is a perfect example to show where you can save on options when deciding between the stock and M performance exhaust. I agree, there is a slightly more aggressive difference in sound but the stock exhaust sounds more than adequate. For such a huge difference in cost between the options this would totally be a preference most would want but would gladly go for the stock exhaust. Thank you. I find these videos very informative.
You can cearly see that the valve is closed on the mpe. Switching to sport won’t open the valves on the mpe, you have to use the Bluetooth remote, you will clearly hear the valve opening!
Unfortunately the Bluetooth remote was missing from the car. All baffles will open by default if you rev the car past around 5-6K RPM but I was not permitted the time to make the video exactly how I would have liked it. This is the best I could do with the time that I had and just to get an idea of the tone difference that BMW wants you to hear when you start the car in an everyday setting.
Thank you for adding the M2 stock vs MPE comparison, much appreciated! Quick question, the MPE sound is in Sport+ and MPE valves open (track mode) or just Sport+ with MPE valves closed? Thanks for clarification!
thanks for the effort you put in to compare the two bro. I guess the performance exhaust on M2 doesn’t make the sound quite louder than it does on m3/4.
This was after letting both cars warm up for 4+ minutes, and clicking into sport+ in both. It was frustrating but it takes forever for the baffles to completely open.
I think I stated earlier in another comment that unfortunately the remote was nowhere to be found in the car. Although the baffles weren't open with the remote, when you rev past a certain RPM all 4 baffles will open by default. The idle sound is the main sound change with the remote. Unfortunately it was a very rushed video and I wasn't permitted the time to make it exactly the way I wanted it.
That is only correct with the stock exhaust. The MPE exhaust flaps only open with the remote. Stock exhaust uses vacuum to open the flaps, MPE uses electronic cut-offs. So no, the MPE flaps do not open up when the car warms up.
Hi I have an M2 with stock exhaust. Figuring if I should upgrade to the MPE??? I have been offered a good price for it and considering to change. Is it worth it? Cant really appreciate in video. I guess I wont regret it right?
Good attempt. My M performance as you stated sounds different after a few minutes even if turned off for a minute and then restarted will need time again. Maybe this could work? Face cars towards each other at idle and 5 minutes later without turning them off. Do this test. I think would be separated enough not to spoil each other. Maybe more true comparison. I couldn't tell when both were changed. I here a massive difference on mine. Of course when both under load sound different than free revving. But still better than nothing. Thanks
La Finale of course, just keep the rpms in the lower range, but the car automatically has a rev limiter until the engine warms up to operating tempurature. Nothing to worry about!
valves were closed on the M2 with performance exhaust, the difference is immense
yeah you are right, i think it has a separate valve button
Stock sounds beautiful
one of the best comparisons here...thanks
Call me crazy but the stock exhaust sounds better
It doesn't seem like he opened the valves on the MPE.
I like the sound from the stock more.
The performance is louder but sounds not really nice.
@@bes-7847 by installing the HJS Downpipe possible to get "louder" and even more better sound from stock exhaust :) at least this is my plan :)
Floortile83 and he is a BMW genius. 😂
Revving I'll give it to you. Driving, driving is a whole different animal.
Both cars sound sick
I was searching for quite a while a really good comparaison!
Thank you so much!
I request a re-do with the MPE exhaust in both closed and then open valve modes
I agree, I let both cars warm up for what was more than enough time but I was limited on time and it takes a full 120 seconds from start up even if the engine is warm so there would be a very long wait lol. Maybe I can fast forward thru it.

Dub Steps That button does not exist in the US. Works as before via the supplied remote.

Standard exhaust over the MP exhaust any day. Such a shame the M3 doesn't sound anywhere as good as an M2 :(
Sweet video
Both exhausts sound perfect
It‘s sad that the new m2 competition will sound like the m4/m3 :( But the Engines got so much more power when you tune it (m4/m3)
xFatKidsAreHarderToKidnapx id rather the sound of this engine and less power then the other M3/4 engine
Phillip Berk the competition got less horsepower than the m4/m3. But the same engine
Agreed! Sound is a huge part of the fun!
xFatKidsAreHarderToKidnapx
So now they’ll make 700HP or so but like you said the sound won’t be great
M2 with the n55, s55 dual hpfp upgrade and ps2 turbo and you’ll make more than a tuned s55 and have the great n55 sounds.
M2 stock exhaust is better than all other m2 comp and m2 cs. M2 og I think is a collectors car
You should wait for the revs to settle after turning it on.
Are you dumb
Dont touch the glass when closing the door...
You can cearly see that the valve is closed on the mpe.

BMW Genius Matt
Mine won’t open, stays quieter regardless of revs in normal mode.
Only after pressing the button on the remote it gets louder.
The only problem with this video: it ends!
Thanks for the video. But open the valves on the MP Exhaust!!
Thank you for adding the M2 stock vs MPE comparison, much appreciated!
Quick question, the MPE sound is in Sport+ and MPE valves open (track mode) or just Sport+ with MPE valves closed? Thanks for clarification!
Looks like it was closed.
definitely closed. There is a bip when you press the remote
Valves are closed.. definitely need remote
Great video Matt. Thumbs up!!
Ya def agree even in person the mpe on m2 is not even close of change as what happens on m3/4.
Could you do a comparision between the stock exhaust anda the performance exhaust of te M2 competition??
Many thanks.
thanks for the effort you put in to compare the two bro. I guess the performance exhaust on M2 doesn’t make the sound quite louder than it does on m3/4.
Will Jun He didn't open up the valves (track mode)
Can you make a comparison between 440i stock and 440i performance exhaust?
Can you do a proper walk round on the new M2 competition as im getting mine in November and would be good to get sounds etc
Lots of reports and review state the $4K price tag M performance exhaust does not add power but does change the tone slightly. What is your opinion?
That’s correct
Nice Video.
But why are you not opening the Valves on that MPE???
This was after letting both cars warm up for 4+ minutes, and clicking into sport+ in both. It was frustrating but it takes forever for the baffles to completely open.
BMW Genius Matt Usually when you push the Button twice on that Bluetooth Remote the Flaps will open instantly.
I think I stated earlier in another comment that unfortunately the remote was nowhere to be found in the car. You need the bluetooth remote to open up the outer flaps.. Just got mine.. Track Mode!! Sounds like a beast 👌
That is only correct with the stock exhaust. The MPE exhaust flaps only open with the remote. Stock exhaust uses vacuum to open the flaps, MPE uses electronic cut-offs. So no, the MPE flaps do not open up when the car warms up.
I'd rather have the OG with the orginal exhaust on track mode it's even louder
For me the regular m2 exhausts are enough 😌😌
The stock exhaust sounds a bit raspier/racier where the MPE has a smoother/deeper bigger CC sound...I prefer stock.
Chris Do actually the M2 stock exhaust has a deeper base sound which this audio doesn’t capture.
And he didn't open the valves on the mp exhaust
Hi Matt...can you consider doing a comparison between stock M240i exhaust vs M240I with M performance exhaust next....please
Anyone who dislikes the M performance exhaust vs the stock exhaust has never daily driven the m perf. exhaust in their life ..
Did he just grab the glass as he closed the door??
Why is the exhaust crooked on the m2 with m performance exhaust
Possible to do the same comparison with M2 Competition (competition exhaust vs the new m perf exhaust)?
Hi I have an M2 with stock exhaust. Figuring if I should upgrade to the MPE??? I have been offered a good price for it and considering to change. Is it worth it? Cant really appreciate in video. I guess I wont regret it right?
M Performance was only in street mode 95db . Track mode is over 120 db
holy fuck :o
Good attempt.
My M performance as you stated sounds different after a few minutes even if turned off for a minute and then restarted will need time again.
Maybe this could work?

Pls m235i vs m235i Performance! That would be really nice. Greetings from Germany:)
I've driven both and the performance exhaust stopped me from buying a "performance exhaust" based car earlier this year.
How come? Im considering upgrading my stock exhaust to MPE...
I’m wondering if it’s ok for me to put in sport mode on the m3 when the it’s cold
La Finale of course, just keep the rpms in the lower range, but the car automatically has a rev limiter until the engine warms up to operating tempurature. Nothing to worry about!
BMW Genius Matt Thank you!
Yep standard M2 but the first Gen.
Part number please?
Prefer the sound of the stock exhaust...
It looks like he didn't open the valve on the mp exhaust, so it should sound different
Sport or Sport + Mode?
Sport and sport + mode sound the same mate doesn’t matter
This guy has no idea how to rev a car
Both bad, s54 s65 win
Both sound terrible to be honest
