Had my late 66 plate OG M2 for just over a year myself. Aside from the discovery of all three diff seals leaking, which was a 4.5 hour job for my excellent technicians, so labour costs were quite high, I haven't had any other issues.
LOL!! You think YOU have problems… 😂 I’m having to go to town on my 85,000mile OG F87 on so many areas just to get her back to a complete reset. That’s literally every single fluid, brake rotors and pads, brake and fuel lines, the plugs, coils and sensors, the entire cooling system, pulleys and the intake chargepipe and brackets plus all associated bolts, seals and clamps. I did get her for £14,000 with a full service history and basically all of the mileage was highway driven but the second it threw me an engine overheating warning, I knew I had to go the whole way. Luckily I am a trained mechanic and have worked on countless cars but this one is new to me with all the associated techno-gadgetry and software based input. Mess anything up and you’re stranded so may as well go top to bottom. I know the fundamentals are solid but holy crap there’s a lot that can and does go wrong on these things… which the BMW Stealership only makes worse with their highway robbery prices. FCP Euro to the rescue! Pray for me! 😂🙏🏻
When you complain about the angle at 10:00, I do need to say it is the same thing with my F30... And since it is my first car, I really thought the problem was my posture! Thank you for pointing that "detail"
Good review. I bought my 18 M2 new, picked it up at the performance center, and love it. At 31k miles, the only problem I've had is the right rear light issue. That seems really common.
I've got a 2018 and LOVE her! The more time passes, the more I love it. I'm so used to it now, I can toss it around like a go-kart! Haven't had any of the issues you have (knock on wood) in fact no issues at all, with 38k on the odometer.
I’ve owned my white manual m2 since jan 17, I’ve only had one issue and that was condensation in one of the rear light clusters and they were both replaced under warranty even though the car was modified. My car has been serviced at North Oxford every year and again never had any problems with them, also they have been a great help with discounts on Mpeformance parts. In the time I’ve owned it I’ve fitted Full Mpeformance carbon kit, splitters, defuses, spoiler, m2c mirrors, m2c Seats, 763m wheels, Litchfield Ast suspension, camber adjustment hubs, custom stage 2+, Wagner sports cat, cfs intercooler, dorch stage 2 fuel pump, flex fuel sensor, intake pipe, diverted valve, m2CS steering, lsd and traction software. I absolutely love how it’s been so far and certainly will be keeping it for a fair few years yet. Hopefully this year I want to get the gts bonnet and maybe get it wrapped.
Thanks for the Vid. I have a 2017 M2 DCT, 30K miles now, the safest and best handling car I've owned. I've dodged a big rig I was passing at aprx 80 mph when he attempted to put me in the desert. I wound up left of the opposite lane fog line at 110 mph when I cleared his nose - backed off to 79 mph and on to cruise when I had gained about 1/2 mile ahead. He came along anyway and tried to pass. I'd seen enough already, sped up to 120 mph for several minutes and didn't see him again. Great BMW power! On another trip the brakes saved us when a ford decided to take our lane. Quick stab and we were clear. This car makes one lucky. Best gas mileage has been 27 mpg at 78 mph over 300 miles. So far, only routine maintenance. I've had a few odd vibration noises in the cab, but our roads here in southern utah aren't the best. I hope you keep on enjoying your M2, you've been a bit unlucky so far, and I'll watch for your next vid.
One thing I'm learning as I spend more and more time in the car world and meeting other enthusiasts is that outside of factory warranty, it's never worth looking for a warranty. The consensus seems to be that when you're buying a used car, aside from really obvious signs of neglect or abuse, there's no real point in trying to ascertain whether or not the used car you're buying is going to be problematic in the future. You just assume it will be, and you're going to need spend money to fix shit that breaks. And 99% of the time, the dealer is the worst place to go. Indy shops are the way to go. I'd gladly buy a used car from a used dealer (and not the manufacturer dealer) and save the dealer premium and skip any sort of extended warranty. Warranties are only good until you actually need to get shit done and realize what a headache it is, and how hard manufacturers will try to deny warranty claims and not spend any money.
Thank you for your review! Long term ownership differs from what is on the brochure. As a bmw owner myself, I tell everyone that my car drives amazing…when it’s working.
Im watching your video as I pick up my car on the 18th June 24 from BMW Southend.2018 car dct 25k miles for 28 grand in white. I’m buying it to get back to enjoying a more engaging experience. I’ve got a similar M2, slightly older but manual. I’ve also had similar experiences with the problems I’ve had. The diff was leaking, exhaust had a rattle, horn went, and now the heater has broken. I also bought at the same time as you so it’s all in 1 year. Luckily it’s all under warranty though. I would say though I’ve had a great experience with BMW main dealers and although it’s annoying taking it in they’ve always been accommodating. I’ve just put Conti Sport contact 7’s on all round and they’ve really improved the winter driving ability. Would really recommend them!
The issue's we've both had do appear to be common on the M2. I've just noticed two of my 1-8 smart touch buttons on the iDrive/climate control panel are starting to crack - another common issue. Love the car, just wish I could say the same about BMW quality!
Great video, I've owned a bmw m2 and they are brilliant I'm looking now to buy a bmw m2 competition but I will recommend that you seriously take an extended main dealer bmw warranty, I've subscribed to your channel so looking forward to more mighty m2 content. Thanks again.
thanks for the comment. I put away some money each month into the 'M2 pot' - for if anything goes wrong. In my mind, I over service and look after it and i'd rather put some money aside for the slim chance something goes wrong. I've had to claim on the BMW warranty in the past year and I was not impressed on the ordeal I had to go through to actually successfully claim, so personally I'd rather put money aside for potential repairs. Thanks for the comment, more videos to come! :)
Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm in two minds whether to go back to a Porsche Cayman or go for an M2 so watching and reading the comments about M2s has kinda opened my views on newish BMWs and reoccurring faults.
