Finding Larvitar in dark cave was a surprise.
Furret has also been a super reliable damage dealer early on. Good coverage with normal stab, thief, and cut.
It literally gets all of those in the base games?
Edit: Was thinking of Sucker Punch, but it definitely gets Cut normally
Is larvitar available only in the morning or day? I was looking at night and only found zubat and geodude?

It's available at any time. It's fairly rare, though.

@@marcleveridge9591You need to find a copy of the original Pokemon Crystal. Either US v1.0 or v1.1 Rev C ( easier to get your hands on) then you have to patch the .ipc file over the original game. Then it should work with no problems! I did it with my phone and just used my old boy for the emulator.
If you're patient, you can get a Cubone with Thick Club in Union Cave! It doubles its attack power and has a 2-3% chance of a wild one holding it. With its good bulk, I think it's quite good! ^^ at least it has been for me as I just got all the Kanto badges with it on my team. Just buy a dozen pokeballs or so, save the game, catch Cubone, and if you run out of balls, reset and keep going so you don't spend a bunch on balls =)
Even better, just train Sentret to level 9 so it gets Thief

@@alonedownthere47Nope; the Thick Club does that ever since its introduction in gen 2! It can actually cause an overflow glitch where a Marowak using Swords Dance will break the maximum Attack value and wrap around to have like, 5 Attack afterwards lol

@@alonedownthere47 The Stick is the signature item for Farfetch'd that bumps its crit rate up. I'm not sure if the Leek even exists, actually...
absolutely KILLED it with this ROM my man! Having a Zubat with a flying move early on really helps build it up through Sprout Tower!! And a Houndour before Faulkner is amazing!!
I got that super early Crobat and it was a beast! But that Houndour before Falkner was amazing! Insta permanent member.
I'm really excited to play this ROM, will probably make me want to play Gen 2 a lot more!

This and crystal clear(open world crystal with all starters, eevee and baby pokemon available as starters)both are great Gen 2 mods now if only someone could combine the two that would be orgasmicly good
I'm not terribly far into the game yet but so far I think one of my favorite changes is the swap of ghost and dark being physical and special. It just feels so right
I LOVE THIS ROMHACK, man, i've been playing it a lot and having hondour/growlithe by the first gym made me see how varied the game could have been. I might restart with chikorita when im done, but having water/fire/leaf alternatives pretty early on is amazing.
Chikorita was my least used starter by a mile before this hack, so I chose it to see if it really was closer to on par with the other starters, and it's honestly super good. Getting leech seed and reflect early is a nasty combo. Giga drain having 15pp is absolutely huge for it, too, despite it being a minor tweak. Meganium wrecked on my playthrough.
Totodile was always my fav, though, and I can't wait to see how hard it's hitting with bite since it is now physical. My alakazam from this playthrough can tell you how menacing bite is now as a physical attack, holy shit.
Growlithe and houndour are located on route 32, right?
@rodrigog4briel route 36 I believe it is. Patch of grass northwest of violet/just east of wiggly tree. Houndour is a night encounter

Unown has been surprisingly useful for the early game with the addition of ancient power.
At first I was excited to use Houndour/houndoom because of fire and dark both being special. I found out through in game dialogue that dark is now physical, making Larvitar an amazing pick up. Which is now my new choice for a dark mon.
It's not in the documentation but I cannot stress this enough: USE HERACROSS!!!
(Headbutt trees still work the same as before, Cut AND Rock Smash both got insanely buffed and Heracross is now a monster!)
Edit: If you're nuzlocking, as long as you have an Ekans it's guaranteed before Whitney, if not there is an online tool to find rare headbutt trees in Azalea Town based on your trainer ID and you can get it before Bugsy by catching a Furret (which learns Headbutt before you can access Cut to get it normally)

What do you mean heracross is guaranteed if you have an ekans?
Cut and Rock Smash buffs have made Heracross so so good
@@Nov1706I think he means that the route you find Heracross, also has Ekans. Playing with dupe clause, you're not allowed to catch another Ekans. So, it's a guaranteed Heracross encounter
@@dankscarce If you're playing nuzlocke, you get one encounter total per route/area, if you get an ekans that's all you're getting. Assuming you're playing properly.
Been loving the ROM! It's amazing how so many of these changes weren't in the base game. Pokemon that you would never dream of using suddenly become viable or just available haha.
I’ve never been so badly decimated by Bugsy before. Scyther with a Bug type Cut absolutely decimates Houndour and Hoothoot. I deliberately chose to not go with Mareep for my first playthrough, and chose Chikorita, so I was surprised at how hard this run suddenly became compared to other Crystal romhacks with the same team, even with everyone’s buffs. This rom hack is great!
It's hard, but not frustrating. I grew up with gold and silver, and in this game I've never had so many close fights before.
The very first zubat I found was a shiny! his name is Pinkerton and he's now a fully grown crobat at this point. Definitely bringing him to the league!

I’m 17 hours and four badges in, and I’m having such a blast (especially on the Analogue Pocket)! It’s so fun to be able to play through with a desired team, and not just what was forced by the original release’s limited encounters. Rocking a Girafarig, Bellossom, Corsola, Heracross, Houndoom, and Skarmory

@@patonosequecosa Nope! Swapped Chikorita as soon as I could for Oddish. Wanted to use a team fully of Pokémon I haven’t used before.
Thats the only way to play these kinds of romhacks, with things you haven't otherwise used, especially buffed mons.

This ROM actually made the game interesting and challenging for the first time in a long time, I’m at the second last gym (ice one) and am not making it pass in a good way because of how challenging it is. Good work Smith
Did Pryce immediately after Morty and ended up being my first wipe, took 4 tries to beat his badge 5 team, so I can imagine that badge 7 team is tough. Pryce used to be one of the biggest pushovers ever, love how he's more of a challenge now

I've been doing a Normal type run of regular old Silver, and Furret has been exceeding my expectations tremendously. It's stats will never be "good", but it has a great movepool. Headbutt, Quick Attack, Dig, and Surf leave it surprisingly hard to wall, and I'm suprised how often I've been able to rely on it in a pinch.
That's how I fell about Persian in fire red. It is awesome

I'm playing your rom. Loved it, but I have a question, I encountered both entei and raikou as soon as I saw them, literaly my first 2 encounter after release them were those 2. is that a feature?
Zubat needs to be higher. Sweeps bugsy gym. Sweeps bellsrpout tower Provides ground immunity. Amazing move pool. And he will sweep the ghost gym with bits. As a crobat he is also a viable E4 encounter.
oooh my... guy i got shiny smoochun as i want and want it to evolve into jynx with good moveset ( lovely kiss nightmare...) but i see that you dont change his movepool order for lovely kiss ... is there moverelearner in that game? or i should restart and choose another mon
In gen 2 gengar is my best mon when i combine ( confuse ray; toxic; curse and shadowball)

This is so amazing, i've been enjoying these videos over the last few months. Do you have any plans of loading this into a gba cartridge? i currently have Unbound and Glazed on a cartridge and since i don't have the hardware or knowledge to play roms, it's the only way i can play rom hacks, and this is one i would hate to miss out out. and would LOVE to purchase
Just downloaded this last night! I've only gotten to violet city so far but I'm impressed with it!
Something i think would be cool is if you made all the TM's infinite.
Been playing Legacy whenever I get the chance and I've been really loving the changes made. From the changes to bug typing to the 5th 6th and 7th gyms changing their team up depending on the order you fight them, I'm always looking forward to pulling out my steam deck to play whenever I get a break at work.

Onix is absolutely insane, I got mine in the Union cave so it obeys me. And then it got one shot because I forgot Pineco got Mega Drain. Basically stopped playing right there. This is why nuzlocking rom hacks gets pretty annoying most of the time
Been playing the Crystal Legacy romhack on my Retroid Pocket 3+ & been absolutly loving it. Currently at the Mahogany Rocket Hideout with 5 badges and a team around Lvl 26-28 consisting of:
1)Quilava
2)Flaaffy
3) Larvitar (finally I can use my favorite gen 2 evo line thoughout the whole game)
4) Politoad (thanks for the added feature to allow it to evolve without trading)
5)Heracross
6)Xatu
I've really been enjoying discovering all the various changes, enhancements and suprises I've encountered so far that have been added. Hats off for the amazing job you and the rest of your team did on this Romhack.
Nothing will stop me using my Dunsparce❤. I thought it was legendary as a kid because I only saw it once in Dark cave, and started suspect myself whether it was real or not 😂. Thanks for the Glare boost and better move set. Eventhough I'm bit annoyed how Aipom is now better than Duns I can see reasons for it and boosting Duns more would make it too op in early game 😁

I have another Romhack of Pokemon Crystal Called Pokemon Kaizo Crystal BUT GOD THE GYM LEADERS!!!!! They have Ultimate Bragging Rights 6 Shinies how did get those 6 Pokemon in the Odds of Over 8000? it Ridiculous! I wanna say the People making the Game did that on Purpose..... Outside of that though I can catch ANY Pokemon.... which also Includes the Traded Evolves because I had a Gengar WITHOUT Trading Required but had to do Alot of Levelling up Grinding for it to happen! Next Time I play the Game? I'm gonna do for both a Haunter and a Kadabra so they Evolve into Gengar and Alakazam I never got to Kanto but also if I did I will be Regretting it all the Trainers will have over Lv. 100 Pokemon while yours STOP at Lv. 100
i LOVE YOUR HACK! My current team is Totodile, Spinarak, Ledyba, And Larvitar. I'm so glad to use pokemon that were unusable before in this game.

Hey man, just an idea but you probably should look into giving Paras or Parasect some other Grass Type Move to help them out with STAB Coverage. Parasect has to wait until level 40 to get Giga Drain, while Pineco gets Mega Drain really early on. While it has plenty of bug type moves to use and Spore is great, I'd probably try and give that line one more Grass Type move in a future update. I'm doing a monobug challenge right now, and a Grass Type move for Chuck's Poliwrath would have been really great.
just cleared the E4 in this romhack yesterday; its been a fun way to go through Crystal again. team has been Tyranitar, Gengar, Heracross, Electabuzz (shiny from the odd egg), Xatu (thank you for giving it Psychic at a good level), and Cloyster. Rock Slide and Ice Beam spam for days lol
I don't really understand how the pidgey line is in the end better than the spearow line. Pidgey has a slightly better bulk but atk and speed than spearow, pidgeotto is better for 2 level but then spearrow evolves into fearow whose stats are way better than pidgeotto's. Pidgeotto will have to wait for wing attack to be able to hit slightly harder on the flying type but it will be far weaker on the normal type (especially if you dedicate swift or return for them), even after becoming a pidgeot it will be less of an offensive menace than fearrow who will soon get drill peck. Pidgeot has a better bulk but weaker offenses (and bulk isn't their goal) and has less time to be more useful than fearow.
Plus the normal typing removing its fighting resistance sometimes makes its less bulky than fearow (brunos machamp wrecks pideot in my experiences) I ended up benching my pidgeot after Claire and just raising a scizor with wing attack. Not STAB, but you can set up with swords dance and still hit hard with it while having sweet bulk and resistances
Both Pidgey and Spearow families are Normal/Flying.
Gonna have to hard disagree on Onix
So Onix has the speed and Screech that Geodude lack, but Onix's attack is so low it HAS to use Screech
and while Onix has a better Def stat everything in the early game cant really do damage to ether pokemon
so it doesn't matter if Onix has defense stat of 100 or 100 million, everything is still going to deal chip damage
Geodude on the other hand has a solid attacking stat and I belive turns into gravel and likely golem earlier than Onix would turn into Steelix, but I will say its good to note that even with the extra buffs Whitney still puts up a fight and Onix and Geodude can basically solo her

Edit: 2:57 Furret isn't a rodent. It's a ferret. Ferrets are mustelids, which are not rodents. Ferrets EAT rodents. This is why the pokedex mentions they hunt Rattata. Because they're ferrets, which eat rodents such as rats, which is what Rattata is. I understand it's in the archetype of the "regional rodent" but it's literally not one. Technically, I'd argue Johto's regional rodent is literally Rattata tbh
I just fought Falkner last night and I didn't have Mareep or Rock Throw on Geodude, and that Noctowl fainted 4 of my Pokemon and made me use two potions! Looking back I just had the absolute worst team and worst luck for the situation and it's not necessarily a harder game by any means, but it just makes so much more sense and gives a good, beefy challenge that's not going to leave you beating your head against any walls.
Can Gloom learn Mega Drain at lv21 rather than lv20? Or alternatively have Oddish learn Mega Drain at lv20?
Having to stick with Absorb up until Giga Drain at lv32 feels a little... not good 😅
And Oddish evolves into Gloom at lv21, so it never sees Mega Drain
Idk whos gonna be reading this but! Pokemon Crystal Legacy is the best Crystal Rom Hack in 2023. I don't want to play anything else but this game. Its harder, the color is crisp, the pokemon that you get in early game is amazing. I started playing this game like it was my first time playing any pokemon game bro. Im talking to NPCs, roleplaying and just having so much fun! I hope you add more to the game and as im typing this I'm getting my 5th badge right now. Just so much excitement

outside of that I hope your Game is Good I'm still bummed NOT to see Vulpix that was in Pokemon Silver and needs to be Traded to Gold or Crystal to have one for those Games so Technically not but I see Growlithe is still in the Game so I might make that my Go to for Fire Types!
@SmithPlays Pokémon If you need a idea to implement the legendary pokemons; the lesser known game Pokemon Crystal Anniversary made really good caves for the legendary birds and Mewtwo. They felt quite nostalgic, maybe those can inspire you?
Currently the legendary birds appear after beating certain trainers and story elements, and Mewtwo is obtainable after red
Really excited to try this rom hack out after I finish Renegade Platinum for the first time. Out of curiosity, do you and your team have any aspirations to give any other Pokemon games the same treatment as Crystal Legacy? I would be interested to see what kind of take you guys would have on generations 3 -5.
Gastly is so good, it has been a lifesaver in my playthrough. Currently 3 badges acquired, let's see How it goes

This unironically covers my current crystal legacy team minus the growlithe/houndour simply because I started with cyndaquil
I’ve been doing a hardcore nuzlocke (just beat Whitney!) and Gastly was the MVP of my early game, especially after a disastrous second rival fight that took out my quilava, poliwag, and Rattata
Its funny as my actual end game team (before watching this vid) was composed of : Gengar, Ampharos, Poliwrath, Meganium, Houndoom :D (+ Noctowl as early bird, got replaced by zapdos then articuno). Pretty great coverage, just sometimes lacking the ability to properly switch in (played on set). definitely never overleveled any part of the game
I was looking for a challenge and thought I'd use Jumpluff, as it's traditionally been pretty bad. Turns out it's... not. Not in this game. The speed combined with Sleep Powder and Leech Seed offers amazing support and Giga Drain allows for at least some damage and further longevity, and the last slot can easily be reserved for something as weak as Gust for chip damage when necessary. My thing is almost always using weak Pokémon for challenge, and I did so this time, too. Jumpluff turned out to be so strong it carried me through the game, at the end severely underleveled, on Hard mode. Next time I'll pick something worse for the extra challenge, or at the very least forgo Sleep Powder.

Picking up a rare Cubone you added to Union Cave, I leveled him to lv 13 where he learned headbutt and was able to use it to get a Heracross very slightly before you would normally find the TM. I thought that was neat. Seems like you can do it with a lv 16 Sentret too.
Finished this game on Sunday, and gym 4 seems a little whack right now. When challenging on level, I still have a Poliwag (a stage 1/3) while Morty is somehow already using Gengar (stage 3/3) with Special STAB Shadow Ball. >.>
Never knew I would use skarmory, but with the addition of better movesets and early access to skarmory near the lake of rage, it is currently one of my aces in crystal legacy

Random question, can you still transfer Gen 4-5 Pokemon to the switch? My soul silver and black 2 have over 300 hours on both games.

Is it just me or do all pokeballs seem a way worse catching rate? I've got a skarnory in the red and asleep and I throw 10 ultras and still can't catch it

Pichu, Larvitar and Poliwag are welcome additions to my team. You can keep the cave herpes. Houndour and Growlithe are cool but I like to use Cyndaquil instead.
I just tried to put the Rom for this onto a Crystal repro cart with my GB Operator and it works! Except for the fact it won't hold a save.... any help with that would be appreciated!!
I'm glad you gave Growl to Growlithe. I still think Twineedle being distributed so much is dumb after you made Cut into BUG.
so how do you unlock the trade pokemon like steelix, golem etc? do they evolve through leveling?
Just got my 8th badge and my team consists of feraligator, alakazam, pupitar, houndoom, (traded out ampharos for Raikou for better stats) , also (traded ursaring for skarmory for flying)
So I'm playing this now and I'm finding that I'm having trouble keeping a team. I usually want to switch a party member out often just because I have access to more than 6 members.
Where can I find Heracross on this game? I used headbutt on Azalea Town over and over again and I couldn't find it
After only just making this mod, I don’t think you should be making a video, suggesting how to play it. The whole point was to renew the game and give it a fresh state, you should let people discover it for the first time again don’t be making suggestions right off the bat.

@SmithPlays Pokémon i found a bug in the national park, when you interact with the textbox that says the prizes in the top house the game crashes.
I have been trippin', I totally thought Hondour was gen 3. I cannot for the life of me ever recall encountering them in gen 2 😅
I was playing crystal legacy. Got to azalea town beat bugsy and my rival. Went to the pokecenter after rival fight. Then the game froze went black then said something about only able to play the game on Nintendo hardware. I had to restart the entire game and hope it doesn’t happen again.
I made an op team for my first team full of trade evo mons. Got Alakazam, Machamp, Golem, Lapras, Scizor, and Houndoom
Im just a poor old man on an android with no cpu.... I guess I'll just keep playing regular crystal on my olboy emulator...😢
How do i get my shiny ditto for entering the Hall of Fame? I read about this event pokemon on Crystal Legacy's discord but i can't figure out how to get mine
I would like to defend Furret cause in my first ever play through of Gold, he was my MVP a lot of times. Saved me in a whole lotta battles
I wish I didn't have problems with my copy of the games. I got 20 hours in and the rom crashed on me. Completely deleted all my progress.
If dunsparce is a great choice but already has a big doenside of falling off a lot. Why make it so rare? It won't get used, as you mentioned. Which kind of goes against the spirit of your own remake
I’m just still hoping to find a way to get rare candies in the game. I really want to do a nuzlocke but not have to deal with the grinding especially for johto’s level caps. If anyone has found a way please let me know

Have been doing a bug themed team. Basically 4 bugs, zubat and kabutops line for coverage and hms.
I played crystal best early pokemon i got was skarmory on route 45 beat sprout tower 1 2 n 3 gym well at beginning i chose cyndiquil went got pokeballs n dex went up to route 45 you only get few patch grass where cant go up but eventually run into skarmory steel flying good being new typing i also did get dunsporse as well too two trys a long time but skarmory was best early pokemon to me in crystal
Does anybody know where the Karate master is for Tyrouge? I went in there where he is supposed to be at and he isn’t there. I didn’t get it from the odd egg and just want to complete my pokedex
I knew this was a fine mod when Unown was a useful pick for the first two gyms. I was so happy to be using Johto mons in Johto; Geodude or Rattata were more common on the originals.
I remember my first play through of silver and crystal years ago. I used Furret on my team and it was a menace. Though i probably wasted alot of good tm's on it. For Silver i did headbutt, dig, iron tail, Shadow ball. In crystal i did headbutt, dig, thunder punch and shadow ball
