You should sew the sleeve cuff halfway up too. This creates a pocket in your sleeve, and is where the Japanese carry their personal effects, since there are no pockets on the body of the garment itself. Excellent description of setting the sleeves in, btw!!

On the thumbnail the right side is crossing over the left side which is the way dead people are dressed. Yukata should never be worn like that. I don't know if somebody already told you but you should keep that in mind!

The measurement do not add up for me….in the very beginning you state to cut one back piece 14 X25 and two front pieces 11 X 25 each. Which I did. Then you said to measure in 3 inch from the center on both front pieces to make the triangle cut (3X10)…that leaves a shoulder of 8 inches on both sides of the front pieces. Attaching those to the back piece that is only 14 inches does not work as they overlap and do not look like your demo garment. 8+8 is 16 and the back piece of fabric is only 14 inches. What am I missing here? I do not see any other people having this issue or I figured it has to be something I am missing lol

Another thing with the pattern you use for the kimono or yukata is that it should mimic the season or event you want to wear it for. For example you’d wear flowers in spring as to not upstage the beauty of the flowers. Same with the other seasons.

that was fun & relatively easy even for beginners; I made one using origami (chiyogami) paper with similar steps. Doesn't matter but the Japanese over flap from left to right (so right hand can go right into bodice). (extra info: before sewing machines existed, the Japanese sewed all by hand & to wash, unstitched pieces, then resewed -- horrifying after sewing successfully the first time; : )

This will leave me with 2 x 8 inch front pieces. If i add these to the back piece they will overlap. I dont understand. Thank you kindly!

Very nice. Thanks. Easy and simple instructions! Loved it! Can we follow the same for an adult? Regarding the width of the kimono back, is it wider than the actual shoulder measurement ? I think yours was 14" which would be wider than a child's shoulder length is it not? How much would I need to take for a 16" shoulder? Kindly advise. Thank you.

Looks like a straight grain piece. I like to use a bias where there's any curve involved, but our teacher shows how to clip the curve to make it lie flat. (For me, less bother to use a bias piece, but that takes more fabric. . . )
