  • Hey guys! Here's another super easy tutorial! I hope you'll enjoy it as much as me. More info bellow:
    Fabric measurements: 1.50 (height) x 1.20 (width)
    If you wanna make it longer (height) increase the height size from 1.50m to whatever height you want (divide the number by 2 cause your folding the fabric in half!)

    Sewing Machine:

    (These machines are not my specific model, because it was not available anymore, but are basically the same! Great for beginners!)
    If you want me to do another DIY just leave a comment bellow!

    Measurements for the sleeves would be helpful, such as where exactly to cut. This leaves me to search out another video that better explains. The paper example was a good visual.

    • @hbrebel2656
      @hbrebel2656 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      the sleeves measurements is just about how large you want them to be

    • @thepolkadotter
      @thepolkadotter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @The Polkadotter I made 30 x 30 cm for the sleeves. And the kimono is way too small for me ... I don't understand what I did wrong ...
      it's seems to be broad on you ... I really don't understand. (PS: i'm french so, sorry if my english isn't perfect ^^)

    You didn't find it necessary to cut a round for the neck area? I just can't see that fitting very well without the proper shaping done in the neck area!

    • @thepolkadotter
      @thepolkadotter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Hello there! The neck area is definitely a little bit tricky. I’m making an update on this video and will show a close up of that part. I just hemmed it like the rest of the kimono but it’s definitely not as easy as the rest. In the end, it fits well in the neck, better if you use a loose fabric 😘❤️

      The Polkadotter Hi, yes I was also wondering about the neck! Did you just cut straight up the front of the fabric and have it just hang around the neck?! I’m quite confused now about how this is done and for it to look as nice as yours does!! Have you made the other video yet to show us how the neck is done in more detail please? I hope so as I found this video very good to follow apart from the neck part😕I really want to make myself a couple of these but don’t want to start until I know exactly how to do it properly. Thanks though, I’m definitely a new subscriber🥰👍🏻

    What no neck opening? If you do the circle needs to be 1/3 back & 2/3 in the front. Maybe I'm making it too hard, but that's the quick and dirty to create a neck opening

    You might want to mention to buy a light fabric, like challis, voile, silky prints, and similar fabrics; medium to heavy fabrics won't drape right, and you can't use a heavier fabric like brocades unless you get some structure into the garment with facings and a lining or underlayment .

    Thanks for this super-simple project! I made a practice version of it out of a cotton bedsheet, which isn't as light as what you used. Two problems that I want to fix: puckers in the armpits because of the 90 degree angle (I'll try cutting a curve next time) and the neck. I can't decide whether to also cut a curve at the neck as well and try to hem that or to use a bias tape finish. What do you recommend? I'm sure I could make it work well with the kind of super light, flowy material you used, but I really want to make some that have more heft.
    Because my bedsheet version had a lot of extra, NOT flowy fabric in the front, I wound up folding it back, tacking the corners at the sideseams and top stitching that toward bottom of the garment, which created a lapel-looking front that I top stitched from the neck down to a certain point and then left open for pockets. It's comfortable and stylish and the pockets are handy. I just need to fix the neck and armpits next time!

      @thepolkadotter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello there! First of all, I would love to see your final result! Then, yes the armpits get a little bit strange because of the 90 degree level cut, if you make it a little curvy it will work much much better. About the neck, I never tryied making it round but I'll definitly give it a shot next time, cause the result will probably be much better too! Thank you so much for watching and spend the time writing your comment! 😘❤️

    Anyone wondering about the sleeve length, the creator said it’s 30cm by 30cm, or 50cm by 30cm if you want longer sleeves.
    However, lots of commenters had issues with the neckline… the creator said she was going to make a video explaining it, but apparently no video has been created since. Just FYI before you start this project!

    Hello! I love the tutorial, it was very helpful and easy to understand. I do have a question about the step after you cut the sleeves. To sew the edges together, do you open up the fabric and sew both edges under the sleeves separately? Or do you sew it all together while it's still folded? It seems to me we would have to open and then sew two times. In the video and tutorial though it looked like you only did it once?

    • @thepolkadotter
      @thepolkadotter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello there! Yes, you have to unfold the fabric and sew the sleeves together, sewing only two layers of fabric and then do it whith the other sleeve. I hope I could help you :)

  • @ShazWag
    @ShazWag 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thank you, that's wonderful. I love how you use paper to show us how it's done. One question: How much fabric do I need for a size 14? I think you're a couple of sizes smaller than me.

    • @thepolkadotter
      @thepolkadotter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello there! You could use this measurements or add like 2-3 cms to the initial measurements, I think it would work just fine! :)

    You may want to mention that this works best with an all over print, and a drapey, lightweight fabric. A one way print will not work with this method, unless you are cool with the print running different ways in the front and back.

    Best way to adjust for plus size? I see the length adjustment, but what’s the best way to figure out what size you need width wise?
