    You can say that you will wait for certain jobs but you’re recruiter can release you from his DEP whenever he wants. The recruiter is the one who matches you with jobs, if they don’t like you then it’s not a good look. My recruiter told me that the Air Force needs mechanical jobs. I listened to him and listed some that were interesting. I also told him that I really wanted a certain type of job and told him why. I did everything he recommended and always tried to leave a good impression during every meeting. This past thanksgiving week I sent him a message saying happy thanksgiving and telling him that I’m working hard to prep for BMT, the very next day he offered me a job that was on the top of my list. Coincidence? Possibly not.

But you have answered so many questions for me, and helped me feel a little bit easier with joining. I am a little older, and a mother of two, so I was really nervous... but this is something I have always wanted to do. I just took my ASVAB today and and getting excited to go to BMT. Hello! So i’m turning 17 this year, and i’ve been thinking heavily about joining the Air Force. I’ve been watching videos, reading, and going through the website for about three or four days. It doesn’t sound very long to think about something this life changing, but i know this is something i want to do. I’ve struggled with trying to find what i’ve been good enough to do, but that didn’t give me what i needed. I’ve been watching your videos for two solid days, and i’ve learned so much from you. I can’t believe i only subscribed today. I struggle so much with so many aspects of my life, and the idea that someone can break me down and build me to be better fills me with more hope than anything. I did the little career test thing, and i’m very interested in both Pararescue and Services-both of which were in the top two categories. Thank you so much for the knowledge you’ve given me. So far i’ve used your videos for the AF PT and what to bring to BMT in terms on what to write down and whatnot. Again, thank you so much. I apologize for making you read so much, by the way.

    Girl I'm praying I get firefighting because that is the ONLY job I want. My recruiter would say "Oh I wouldn't recommend, my brother was a firefighter and had to pull out dead babies from fires" probably because he knew I had a child." But then again he did mention the jobs I qualified were "general jobs" and included firefighting. I have been working with him for over a year due to my son being with me for 6 months and then my weight. I'm bringing him blood work results and documents today so hopefully we can schedule a MEPS appointment sometime soon. UGH. This has been such a frustrating process, but I'm praying it'll be worth it in the end and I actually get my job I want.

    I am from Saskatchewan up in Canada and have been doing lots of research lately to join the army up here. My recruiters that I have (Yes I have more then one for some odd reason) when asked certain questions do not answer them and leave me to attempt to find the answer myself. I find your videos super helpful even though this isn't the branch I want to go into. One thing that I found with the recruiters up here is they will tell you one thing and then turn around and say something completely different, which honestly really tears me apart because it has always been my dream to become a Nursing officer but I can't seem to get clear answers or the information that I want. So thank you for posting these videos they are super interesting and really helpful to kind of see what I'm in for.

    Then he said what career opportunities do I expect to get and I told him medical field.
    He said there wasn't and there's more mechanical jobs.

    5:03 mark about job opportunities. When enlisting going into the DEP program you are committing to that branch. You have to be open to Air Force needs when enlisting. If you are job locked your recruiter is less likely to work with you because there are limitations on jobs comapred to others (not everyone can become medical). Which if you are in the Delayed Entry Program and become DEP discharged it shows you are not open to "Air Force needs". No recruiter can truly guarantee a job.
    The Aptitude areas is another opportunity for individuals to get more specific jobs that would not be available to others on year to year basis. As your example with Security Forces is not even available to be selected when choosing Genreal Aptitude Index.

Considering not having your job available when you want to enlist, not everything is guarantied even if you have a good relationship with your recruiter. The military especially changes a lot so just good luck honestly lol

    After a long wait I finally am enlisted but because it took so long not only because of covid but it was also my recruiter. I was supposed to be enlisted back in July but I wanted to take the asvab again so I studied my butt off and barely went back to meps to dep in and to take the test again just these past 2 weeks. He wasn't the best on following through with his plans for me, It even seemed like he didn't care much to get me in so he wouldn't even contact me when he said he would. It is very important to have a recruiter who is willing to work with you and is excited to have you in! I'll be leaving for bmt February 9th finally!

Email after email of trying to reach him and i finally got to meet him and speak to him October of 2018, he said "I'm glad to finally put a face to the name" and said i have attitude even through emails and text messages, but that he was very grateful i was persistent because many people try to speak to them, and they gave up because they have not gotten in contact. I have a degree in English so I feel like that's close and possibly that could help me in that direction? I took the DLAB and passed but I'm not sure yet if Language is a good choice for me. I was an Air Force recruiter in the 80's and 90's. Things may have changed since I was in but if I had an individual job locked into only certain jobs i would not have worked with them. When I was a recruiter 90% of the recruits went into open areas Mechanical, General, Administrative, Electronics. If I had sent an individual to MEPS who was not willing to accept one of those 4 areas I would have been reprimanded for wasting the MEPS time. They would not have processed that individual. The only career field that they could absolutely be guaranteed was Security forces. I had an individual come to my office once with his Burger King uniform on and told me the only job he would accept was Medical equipment repair. I politely told him that he should go to his local hospital and apply for that job. He came back about a month later and enlisted in the open Electronics area. Things may have changed but from the recruiters I have talked to recently it hasn't. As a recruiter I sold the Air Force not jobs. Also most of the recruits I had stayed in the DEP program at least 9 months before they even shipped. If you lie to a recruit chances are they would find out during those 9 months and you would probably have a cancellation on your hands. For me honesty was paramount.

    • @bengaljam4550
      @bengaljam4550 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@semajaibell25 No. They went into one of 4 areas Mechanical, General, Electronics, Administration. Most would be in the Delayed Enlistment Program for at least 6 months. When they got to basic training they went through further job counseling and were provided a list of jobs in the area they chose that are available. Some got their #1 choice but the majority got something that was their list. There are also some that got something that was not on there list but at least was on the area that they chose. I was a recruiter in the 80's , 90's so the process may be different now. If someone walked into my office wanting only one job I would explain how the job process works and if they weren't interested I would wish them luck. The only job I could pretty much guarantee at that time was security forces.

      Natalya Carvajal I told my recruiter the same thing and he told me that if I flooded my job sheet after the 9th option (because you have to pick 15 jobs? or something like that) with medical jobs after meps I would get one eventually.The first job on my sheet was phys. med, then open general, and then 4-8 were jobs like security forces even though I have zero interest in them. So I did exactly that and after meps all the non medical jobs I listed were the only ones available to me but I was persistent and told him that I wanted to wait a little longer to see all my options (because the non medical jobs seem to have a higher demand, although I’m not sure if this is true or not but it’s what he told me) and I waited like three months and am leaving Jan 8th for bmt with a medical mos :) so just wait it out but be willing to work with them and not only want one specific medical job like I did and you’ll book one eventually :)

    I started out talking to a recruiter or two in Minnesota who were sort of helpful but ultimately not the best. I met with them in person right off the bat but my brother and I kept getting shuffled back and forth between the two recruiters. Our main recruiter was very bad at communication even after I started the process. They didn't seem to really care about me or remember anything about me, and it almost messed up my medical paperwork and got me denied. I go to school in Mass so I finally got transferred to a recruiter in Mass who seems to really care, is very good at communicating when needed, and is dedicated to getting me into the Guard. I'm just waiting to go to MEPS now, but hopefully I'll be enlisted by next semester! Also, my top job pick is security forces, can you explain why people don't want that job?

    • @mariahhammond6583
      @mariahhammond6583 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Riley Bast people don’t want the job because it sucks. It’s one of the few career fields that’s treated like the army. Constant trainings. Really crappy hours. Most of the time really crappy leadership. Lots of bs in general. It’s not the “fun” job people expect. If you want to ride the gates 24/7 and be eligible to deploy pretty much whenever, then go for it. But it’s not the job most people expect it to me. My husband is SF. I wanted to do it and his coworker literally said “don’t join security forces if you want to be a cop. If you want to be a cop, go to the police academy”. Long story short, SF=lots of bs.
      Now, there are people that LOVE it! I know people that love it. Buuuuut, it all depends on your base, leadership, what hours they have y’all on, etc. and if you get stuck at Lackland, good luck. At Lackland, people start liking their job once they’re able to work the visitors center, the desk, combat arms, stuff like that. Some people only like the job when they deploy. It really depends. But there was a girl at my recruiters office considering it. He straight up told her do NOT put it down if she’s not prepared for it. He told her to do her research and talk to people, because it’s not just being a cop. That right there made her no longer interested.
      There are better career fields out there. My husband REFUSES to be open to me putting that job on my list because of how poor the quality of life is with it.
