I managed to dial 911 as the very first phone number I ever called; my dad had to explain to dispatch that it was a baby who got a hold of the phone and dialed them in under 2 minutes.

I was a 911 dispatcher for 16 yrs - I once had a woman call 911 to report that the drugs that she just paid for came up short - at 1130 pm - at a post office - yes - it was a drug deal and he shorted her 20 pills and she decided to call the police - she must have immediately came to herself because she wasnt there when the deputies got there

I remember the viral audio of a kid calling 911 about his math homework. The dispatcher was entertaining the idea of helping with the homework. Then the kid’s mother can be heard saying “who are you talking to?” “The policeman’s helping with my math. You said that if we need help, you can call them” “NOT THE POLICE ABOUT HOMEWORK” 😂

I remember that story! The mom should've been more specific on when you should call 911. Math homework isn't one of those reasons to call 911!

When I was a little kid, I called 911 because my mother wouldn't let me play with my toys.
The 'toys' were kitchen knives. I imagine the responding officer was very annoyed, but also relieved that there wasn't an actual child abuse issue.

Before the prevailance of weather apps, there used to be a phone number to call for the weather & time. Given that she was an old lady, maybe she got numbers confused in her mind?

My boyfriend once accidentally butt dialed 911 when we were in the car talking dirty to each other, and the dispatcher only heard me say "I'm gonna rip all your clothes off later and make you scream for release".
Call hung up and she called us back right as he was talking about his zipper being stuck and he couldn't get it out.
We were cracking up laughing, myself practically hearing her turning red with embarrassment at what she had overheard.

Newest stupid 911 call - girl needed change tampon but if she stood up to do it she’d be arrested because she was breaking the law!

What was the logic behind the reason? Do you know?

    • @TrixRN
      @TrixRN 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@quintonknight4673 It was the recent sit-in at a university, one of the anti-Israel protests, I think. I can’t remember which uni. They were there illegally, but for some reason were allowed to stay. If they left the group for any reason they were arrested. (I believe eventually they were arrested.) A girl had a tampon in she felt needed to be changed, but she didn’t want to be arrested. So her friend called it in to 911 as a danger for toxic shock syndrome & wanted her to have a free pass to change it then return to the protest. Totally bogus.

On Story 29 when the narrator mentioned that the guy booked himself a dental appointment because his mouth hurt so bad that he couldn't eat anything, I thought he had an abscess tooth. That was what I went through when I went through a tremendous amount of pain and swelling on my face! I can't believe that his "dental emergency" was just him biting himself by accident!

When I was really little (like 5-6 years old) I called 911 because my elderly neighbor, who was babysitting me at the time, couldn't find a pair of pants. A cop showed up, a nice young man who was in his twenties at most, he kindly explained to only call during emergencies and left. Still gave my poor neighbor a scare though 😅

The wedding ring one... I was there though not quite with a wedding ring. Bought a stainless steel ring and wore it on my ring finger persistenly. It was a slightly tight fit back then, but the finger adjusted... then it started to swell a while later, which made it impossible to take off and the thing was sensitive. A very slow developing problem. I checked in with jewelers to maybe cut it off but as soon as they hear it's stainless steel, they just send me away. This is because gold and other jewelry metals are actually rather soft and yielding, their tools suited for those and would pretty much not only do nothing on the stainless steel, but it would also turn their tools useless. Finally found this dude with his workshop in a house on the edge of the city, the "neighborhood guy" if you know the vibe. Man looked at it and knew the score but took the challenge on. Over the next hour and a half he used a very careful hand, a combination of leather and wood to protect my finger while he used ceramic saw to slowly cut the ring off my finger. We're talking those spinning saws that you are instructed to not even let your hand be in the same neighborhood as them going right onto my hand... a smaller one, but still. One hour and a half later and one final pass makes the ring bend into two pieces and my swollen finger is free with a very clear channel where the ring was. THEN THE GUY WOULD NOT QUOTE A PRICE. I paid him the equivalent of a hundred bucks anyway because even I feel like I worked during that.

When I was a kid, my Grandpa had a button installed in his house that I wasn't supposed to touch. So, of course, when no one was looking I pushed it. Not long after, we heard sirens and fire trucks pulled up to the house. Turns out that button was basically a "I need help button", and the fire department was the closest. I got an earful from my parents that afternoon.

People scared when their roomba makes noise: I have six cats and three dogs. Every noise is literally assumed to be someone furry getting into something they're not supposed to. In the event that a burglar ever actually enters my house (without alerting the three dogs who are super barkers over Everything, so unlikely) they're going to be kind of put out when I inevitably yell at them "Get the hell out of whatever you're into or I'm going to consider abusing you instead of spoiling you!"

    Story 18:
In case you didn't know (readers), a hangover is dehydration. If you drink a similar volume of water alongside your alcohol you will likely never have a hangover. Just stay hydrated, and if you use juices to do this, make sure they're low on sugar or they'll make it worse.

    I'm not a dispatcher but I have 2 stories.
1st, my paternal grandparents think 911 is the information line. For those unaware, 411 is information in the states and generally speaking, they're old school, to the point where they think you can call 911 to get something like time and weather and their minds are starting to go so their easily confused.
The other story, I was starying in a hotel on a hunting trip a few years ago, and to call another room you had to hit 9 than the room number. Someone in my room tried to call someone else in a room that started with 11, so the phone automatically called the emergency number.

I guess a simple food to leave for kids to make themselves would be bread and toppings.
Slices of bread or some rolls and toppings. So slices of cheese, slices of deli meats and cream cheese to put on. Pretty easy to put together even for a child.
But I guess that's German me talking who grew up with Butterbrot for breakfast.

I had a neighbor call the fire department because he thought our house was on fire! No, our house wasn't on fire. We were burning a bunch of trash in the sinkhole on our property. The neighbor saw the smoke and assumed the worst. By the way, we live in a rural area where open burning is allowed.

Honestly the one about getting rides home when you're drunk from the police really depends on your location A lot of places actually do encourage this behavior especially in more suburban / rural areas where public transport is not always available or reliable especially so late at night and they prefer that you find a safe way home as opposed to trying to walk home while intoxicated or driving while drunk

Let me give some commentary on one word in the English language which is being misused, and that is “had”. The way this word is being used, implies intentional action.
You could say, “a woman called . . .” versus saying, “I had a woman call . . . “ The second one implies that you meant for this to happen. I highly doubt this.
If you are telling a story about when your car was stolen, don’t start with “I had my car stolen”. What you were saying using the word “had”, is that you intended for it to happen. Really?! if you had said, “my car was stolen”, this would be happenstance.
3:29 Story 3 “I had a guy call 911”. WRONG. To say, “A guy called 911” is sufficient. You did not intend for the guy to call 911, he just did. [Happenstance, not intentionality]
