NORWEGIAN CARIBBEAN CRUISE: Taino Bay & Puerto Plata Cruise Port Tour in the Dominican Republic

- The first stop on our 9-day cruise in the Caribbean is Taino Bay at Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. The Norwegian Sky is at port for the day, and we want to show you how we spent our time here exploring Puerto Plata and hanging out in Taino Bay floating along the lazy river!
Known as "The Bride of the Atlantic", Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic has so much to offer with its rich culture, history, festive and vibrant town it should be on the top of everyone's must-see list when visiting the Caribbean!
Taino Bay is a cruise port located in Puerto Plata, on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic. Opened in 2021, it serves as a major destination for cruise ships in the Caribbean. The port is designed to provide visitors with a rich cultural and historical experience, reflecting the indigenous Taíno heritage, which is where it gets its name.
The Taino Bay complex includes various attractions, such as:
1. *Shopping and Dining:* The port offers a range of shops, restaurants, and bars where visitors can buy local crafts, souvenirs, and enjoy Dominican cuisine.
2. *Entertainment and Cultural Activities:* There are cultural exhibits and performances, showcasing Taíno traditions, as well as live music and local entertainment.
3. *Adventure and Excursions:* Visitors can explore the natural beauty of Puerto Plata by booking excursions directly from the port, such as trips to waterfalls, beaches, or historical sites like the Fortaleza San Felipe.

I love the Dominican Republic. It has been a long time since I visited. So many great views of the town, shops, historic areas and more. Great video captures of the guy dancing and beautiful views of the ship. Have a great week.

Puerto Plata was our 1st stop on our first cruise in '81. There was a big Bacardi plant there then that was fun to go thru... It was nothing at all like you have seen when we were there. Thanks for the video!

That's awesome that they have guides that work for tips you can hire to show you where to go. That lazy river looked fun, but I loved how you both spent your day seeing more of the sights. Very fun to pose with those parrots. The food on your cruise looks amazing.
The food overall was pretty good. We really did enjoy walking around the city we did do that in most of our city stops it was a ton of fun just wait I feel this trip gets even better. We appreciate the support you always give us see u soon!

How far of a walk is Umbrella St from Taino Bay? And what kind of tips do you give the tour guides & also the rides down the boardwalk to the port? Going by myself & don’t want to carry a lot of cash. Thank you
The walk to Umbrella street was almost a mile it took us about 15 minutes but felt less it went by quickly as we took photos and visited with him. We said no thank you from the start and when we got to Umbrella street after a few minutes we said goodbye but handed him 10 dollars but many people stayed longer with a person to help them get around so I would ask how much they are expecting and you can always negotiate I am sure it depends on how long your together. We didn't take much money for the same reason but if you want a photo with birds, monkey or people you want to give them a couple dollars and some areas you can feed birds and they have a little market in which they sell things they make if you may be tempted to buy. It was only a couple dollars to walk through the fort. If you don't think you will buy much you could take 50 to 100. Also depends on if you will shop.in Taino Bay. Love your videos!! When you were on the lazy river where do you leave your things? We are traveling on NCL Encore and worry about leaving our things out while we are in the water with the kids.
Look on Amazon at the dry bags or it may say waterproof dry bags. You may see them in our video we each have one we attached to the tube and may also be sitting on our laps. We have used them on other tubing adventures and they work great but I also have stuff in bags and ziploc bags inside those bags just to double up. We also purchased the special ones for our cell phones that worked amazing when we snorkel but I also doubled up just in case. We do clip towels on our chairs to save our spots. I hope the tips help and I will get better at mentioning those details in our future videos. Thank you for watching we appreciate your comment and support.
