I would have cut the piece smaller in the shap of the cut, Poked it in upside down and used PVA glue. I would use a fine hook tool rather then a bulky screw driver that sretches the original material. You did a good job anyway.
To each his own. The rip did not continue and I only spent a few bucks fixing it. Plus sold the bike a years ago and it helped not having a ripped seat. Cheers mate

Superglue might feel too hard. Use a leather repair kit to finish. After securing it like you did it still needs filler and paint.
