Damn, these lines are sad. It's also super interesting what he says about not being afraid to die. I never thought about him being afraid he won't reincarnate, but it makes a lot of sense. No wonder he clings to the one he has so fiercely.
This is such a great comment. For those reading it who are not aware, elves are long-lived and do not procreate as frequently as the other races. They reincarnate and are very particular about this. For example, they regard other races as lesser because they do not reincarnate, and many view these other races as soulless as a result. It's interesting to hear this character make mention of this.
@@adrienneinchi all races in Faerun reincarnate, though, it can even be directly addressed if you play as Gale and make the ultimate sacrifice. Unless, indeed, they are soulless, like illithids. Or true vampires, for that matter.
@@rosehill7919All races don't reincarnate at all. They all go to their respective afterlife. Elves are barred from theirs so they reincarnate. Also, true vampires aren't soulless. The soul of an undead is trapped inside the body, tainted and corrupted.
Interesting that he emphasises that it's "/degrading/ that people like her keep falling for it" (the sexy vampire schtick). Especially since there's that line from the DM in the ascended bite scene, where "he will always think of yourself as degrading yourself for being with him". Maybe ascended Astarion sees spawn Tav as exactly the same as Araj: just fetishizing him
Yep, I believe the writer for BG3 in some interview said that choosing to become a vampire for Ascendant Astarion was written as a failure on your part to see him as a real human being and instead fetishize him as this hot vampire dude or something like that.

Damn, this hurts me so bad. I wish we had the opportunity to keep Cazador as a pet and torture him for a while before killing him, just like he did to Astarion. I would literally burn down the world of anyone who harmed him. :/
I got this dialogue at “relationship is good” high 50s level, but wasn’t romancing him, just friends Still wish I could have given him a friend hug, but I think hugging only comes up as an option if you are initiating romance
Astarion's story doesn't pull any punches and shows just how ugly the realities of being a survivor is. But 2:10 really strikes me in a way no other line of his has. It's so plain but implies so much horror. But more than anything, it shows how those experiences stick with you and become a part of you. And for as much of a show Astarion puts on, for a vast majority of the game, he doesn't see his body as a part of himself, just a tool others will use if he doesn't take advantage of it first
I always back Astarion up when it comes to the Blood Drow because my friend is a person, not an object. I also know you don't need high approval or must be in a relationship with him to get this. I got this by asking Astarion why he wouldn't bite her then respecting his wishes.
Not worth it though. When you don't make him do something he didn't want to do it makes him realize that he was still thinking like a slave even though he was now free, and is 1 of the single greatest moments of character development for him.
I never had this dialogue when in a relationship with him, in my latest playthrough, I just had high approval and got that dialogue for the first time. (was wondering, why everybody says, things about s**ual a**se and stuff, when he always seemed fine to use his assets XD but with that dialogue, I finally realised, where it came from)
Am I the only one who thought the scene with the drow blood merchant was rlly cut and dry? I’ve seen [SPOILERS] ppl confused about Astarion breaking up with them after they make him drink it (or choose the “do it if u want option”). Personally I felt like it was a super clear scene in terms of him establishing his own autonomy and seeing u as undermining that if you asked him to do it in any way. When he says these lines after about seducing ppl for Cazador (and from what we know of how Cazador manipulated him, sometimes giving him a choice and then punishing him either way) it was a pretty clear choice to me of backing his EXTREMELY CLEAR “No” on biting her. Idk even without the follow up scene a lot of his previous dialogue made me aware he’s been deeply hurt and used and lacking autonomy, somehow I do feel like ppl get caught up in his sexy vampire schtick and ignore how tragic, lonely and scared he is! I didn’t romance him this run (my tav is only interested in women) but I found myself really wanting to help him heal and grow, despite all the dubious stuff he says, because I could see how much his past had hurt him.
I thought I told him that he could do it if he wanted, and he said ‘no’ and thanked me. Maybe I’m misremembering. I wished there was a line that was like “you can have the potion if you do it, but if you don’t want it, then don’t do it” just from a roleplay perspective. Because he had every right to say ‘no’ - but it was a powerful potion and my character would have encouraged him to at least consider the tradeoff. Whatever I said made it clear that he didn’t have to do it. Because, of course he didn’t.
Ive a got a neutral rating with him, on the playthough i got this scene i had an enthusiasm to let him be his own self. What does he and the others want for themselves.
how did you get this cutscene? I was in a relationship before meeting her, made sure there were no other long rest cutscenes that would block this one and tried every single "good" answer to try and get this cutscene to come up but it never worked ): I just assumed there was no special cutscene for if you're already in a relationship with him because it never appeared for me Edit to say, I also had him at max approval by the end of speaking to her
@@pogpurin its an act 2 scene so he cant be ascended but I am also playing dark urge so that could come into it, but none of the other romance scenes with him have been different
I’m not sure but this looks like a dialogue on high approval but not romanced because it never appeared for me either. and in case you do ask him to bite her then he apologises for being so difficult and you can reaffirm he should continue using his body to get things and he accepts that. unlike when he is romanced.. forcing him to bite her hurts the relationship and he can even break up with you.
So emm I take it no approval points in this scene? lol In my game I kinda talked him into it, and hes complaining having to drink it lol Vampires damned if you do damned if you don't am i right lol
