I had someone ask me the same thing. Thought it was a remote control kite with an engine. I only have a 50' Gomberg, similar in color but three colors, adding a darker green as well. Mine doesn't inflate all the way either. Dave told me to sew the end almost shut but still not getting full inflation. Might try the 100' transition tail. Seems like it would look cool behind. They'll make a custom green one as they don't stock green. BTW, I obviously have the same kite. Too fun.

Yeah mine doesn't inflate all the way either but i don't mind, it still looks cool and draws a lot of attention. Not too many people around where I live have ever seen anything like it, someone was like "are you actually steering that thing?" Someone else actually asked me if the kite had an engine on it because of the osund it makes haha

Thanks. I was going for a strobe effect. Just wish the tube would inflate fully.

Sorry, I just saw your comment. The tail came from Gomberg Kites in Oregon. I had them modify their standard design to make the sections shorter at 2 feet each. Only problem I have with the tail is that it needs a larger opening as it only inflates partially. There are larger diameter tube tales available but I think they're too big and don't look right.

Nick Taylor very nice in blue sky
What is the diameter of the kite.

  • @nicksgarage2
    @nicksgarage2  12 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes. I believe it was the yellow green. I had them make the segments shorter. I think they are 2 foot each. Half what the standard ones are. The only thing I don't like is that the tube doesn't fully inflate. It really needs a funnel shaped opening in the front to scoop enough air. And yes it is ripstop nylon.

Tube tail with funnel intake. This one. th-cam.com/video/0iYfALOJmy0/w-d-xo.html

I can usually fly with the 50' in anything 10 and up. The not fully inflating thing bothers me too. I think it might help to get the crease from the folding out as it limits air flow.

It's been awhile but I finally have a video of mine flying. Sorry for copying your idea but it just looks so cool!

Have that tail on way in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I will have some videos from Sandy Beach, Hawaii soon.

I'm not doubting the power of a quad to attract an audience but this kite always wins the crowd at the park. Flash over control I guess.

I was inspired by you kite flying and I made a custom 6.5" ripstop tail . I increase the dia to have more wind and smooth movement. th-cam.com/video/D_kCuhdKz18/w-d-xo.html

A dual with a tail will beat a rev any days with the crowd. Revs are tiny and no one can see them. This gets seen. Revs make flyers and if you have 6 or more then ok but one flyer to one flyer nobody will stop admire to see a rev. I love my bpros I have 4 by bazzer and ill fly the dual with a tail if I'm looking for a crowd draw. This is beautiful.

The crowd goes for flash, size, colour + colour combi and movement/pattern and maybe sound for some folks. Eg, i've got a "cheap" usd270 metre spinning windsock from China spinning just 5 metres off the ground wows the crowd the most. It easily "stays" with bigger 2k-3k kites flying 40 metres up there in the eyes of the general masses. A 4-5 sq metre foil with 40-45 metre lines with a nice 50-60 metre 18cm wide fat tail would be epic, the tail also adds some welcomed drag in beaufort scale 3 and above. But if you are trying to tease the crowd *up-close* with a Rev or even a 4-line Spiderkites Smithi 2.4m foil so that the kite seems bigger to the audience + interaction, then that's a different story.
      Eg see this : th-cam.com/video/EfycOiLCqc4/w-d-xo.html

I don't really know the wind speed. I'd guess I need at least 15mph to fly well with the tail. If there isn't enough, the kite won't stay up. I flew it in about 25mph winds in Washington and it was crazy fast. I was also flying my 12 stack of dyna kites then and took a lot of strength to not get dragged down the beach.

This topic comes up often. Different kites with very different characteristics would appealing to different folks. No point comparing them. Most general folks passing by the park or beach just want and get attracted by that WAM BAM initial impact first and foremost. Like a jet engine with afterburner drag car vs new F1 1.6 turbo.
Even a cheap 2 line 3.3m PC40 china (VERY VERY LOUD, actually it gets irritating after 3 mins and it's like a joke) stunt kite with 50m tail and beaufort scale 4 winds would also be great. Ever saw my pal's normal nylon 3.3m China stunt kite without a tail drawing a crowd of up nearly 100 at both the ground level and from an elevated rooftop over at my flying place. A single Rev at the same area/same time would not draw such a crowd. A single PL Maxi might not even draw such a crowd. A group of synced Revs or a string of Maxis would be different, of course. Haven't really encountered a dozen or so China stunt kites optimised for sound, probably would be too loud. =)

How long are your flying lines? I usually use my 100 foot ones. The revolution kite guys hate when I show up with mine because I usually steal their audience.

Did you make that tail yourself or was it custom ordered? I plan on buying the quantum soon, same color and that tail just matches it so perfectly!

Nick and DrumGuitarist, I really like both your videos. What was the wind speed in this one and what was it for the one in RI Drum?

No problem, glad I could help. It's a lot of fun isn't it! How does yours inflate? Mine only inflates about 1/3 of the way.

just ordered it! 2 things, is yours ripstop nylon, and is the green color what they are calling "yellow/green" on their website?

For you guys with these 100' tails...Do you think one of those portable, garden hose reels would help with reeling it in and storage.
I know my 40' Nexus tail can be a PITA and time consuming on gusty days.
    Thanks and Happy Holidays!

+MrBlister1972 did you ever figure out a good way to reel up the tail? Mine is definitely a pain. Trying to think of a better way

Ummm...respectfully...there is no way that a dualie w/a tail is going to "steal" an audience from a REV pilot (assuming he knows how to fly the quad...lol) I've got many duals and quads. QUAD REV's win...no question. Just my opinion
