Bruh. For me this the saddest scene in the anime. When Kotaro opened the door and noone was home then the eerie music comes in.

The saddest one for me was the balloon part
For me it's the tissue eating. Not maybe saddest. But very triggering after realization. It's like abandonment, loneliness, and desperation to survive in one and how it was taken as kotaro's normalcy even in present.
I love how Karino comes to save the day! And you know Kotaro felt it to his soul, you can see it when his eyes glows.

The lesson most abused kids learn when they grow up is that strangers are often kinder than their family. Random people always have your back, and most people can step in to be your mom/dad/sibling ect at least for a moment. Sure you won't necessarily have a consistent individual to call your mom, but if you can take the view that you instead have hundreds of moms then its not so bad. Also you never get disappointed by the random strangers stepping in to be your mom. They are the kind loving people you've always hoped your own mom could be.
Someone, please adopt this sweet child
I recommended adults around me watch this anime. There are a lot of things adults can learn from this anime regarding the signs of child abuse and child neglect. Every episode is filled with warm-hearted scenes only to be ended with the heart-wrenching tragedy behind every little thing in Kotaro's life.
I taught my neighbor basic auto maintenance as an escape.
Saw this show as an adult, but as a kid I WANTED to have Kotaro's life. I tried starting at age 3, but no one rents to a preschooler without an income. Kotaro had his mother's life insurance money. If Kotaro was with an abusive caretaker then no one helps him bc everyone ASSUMES his parents got that covered. When he's alone his neighbors realize he needs people to step up, and so they do. Kotaro gains a whole community when being alone. I remember the 4th time my parents left me for dead at age 10, if I had been on my own then random strangers would have stopped to help me, I myself could have called 911 after I stopped the bleeding. Alone I wouldn't have gone without food. Alone I wouldn't have been freezing in a midwestern winter. Nothing was sweeter then when I finally turned 18 and could legally move out. My pantry always has food. I go to the doctor when needed. My home is always a comfortable temp. And best of all I haven't had a near death experience since I moved out!
For those not in the know, this anime explores issues concerning child abuse.

I feel bad knowing this kid thinks his parents will hug him when he gets home but he totally gettin a ass beating 💀
Its been days ever since I finished watching this anime,and it so deep that I will remember it forever.Hoping for season 2 where Karino adopt him🙏I wish I can just hug that kid and assure him that he's not alone anymore😢❤

Sayori - Kotaro’s mom - used to live in the same building in which Kotaro is living albeit different room. She met Karino when she was there. Before leaving the apartment she told the landlord and his wife that she really wished Karino was Kotaro’s father. She said that Karino is a man that prefers action to words. Such a person is able to understand other people’s feelings and enter their hearts so naturally. I have a feeling she really fell in love with Karino. But she let him go without telling him.
This needs a english dub but Kotaro's voiced by a british lad.
