23 yrs young, been working on strip mines and mechanicing sense 18. We rebuild buckets, blades, bed liners, for equipment that most people never get to see, big stuff, just started working on 3500 series cat about a 15,000 pound engine. I've never missed a day of work, came in late twice in 4 years and the boss knew the evening before! Hardly ever see anyone my age working around what I do. People wouldn't know what I done to get a job, first off I showed up a million times until hired, called evry few days and told them what I could do, been raised around this my whole life, anyways they gave me a job and have never had any regret or problems from me sense and I tell them almost monthly at every big saftey meeting how grateful I am for them letting me get my foot in the door, make good $ and learn from everyone. I tell them all the time I owe them for experience lol

When it rains, it pours. This is heresy but... Raise your rates! You'll make the same money and work less. I know, you think if you raise your rate, nobody will use you. You are a great mechanic. If customers are after cheap instead of good, well. As you say "Fuck-em" You're a pro. Charge like you are.

Course you’d have to have foolproof, step by step instructions with illustrations to get them to do anything. Then you’d need someone else to double check and sign off that it was correct.
Probably just best to hire a farm kid that knows how to work on everything. Not just the one or two options the military uses and the aforementioned “breaking” that requires a childishly simple manual to do anything.

I wouldn't mine a single bit to work for you. I wouldn't even mind to clean the entire shop. So much to learn just by watching you, let alone being on your shop. I'm 24, I can do most of the stuff. I've built a backhoe myself, finished at 18 years old and I do most of mechanical stuff myself. The only con I have is that I'm from Portugal.

Edward Martinez I can work on the old stuff just as easily because it’s simple. Which is probably why you’re saying you know how to do anywhibt anyways. It’s so easy a monkey could do it.
That’s the cool thing about having my skill set. You old hacks wish you had and understanding and grasp of modern technology. I’m not impressed that you think you can gap a set of points or adjust a carburetor, I can too. It’s not that tough.
You oldsters wanna feel important and special so badly but it’s painfully obvious the generation of techs like myself have to know 10 times what old school techs did and the systems are 100 times lore complicated than that simple old crap you all think is such an accomplishment to work on.

Question, is it legal or illegal to just chain that axle up and continue to the nearest shop? Here in KS, I see this all the time, to where the axle is just chained up.
If you get a "kid", go for the "farm kid", they know what work is and what it means or, someone fresh from the military. As someone stated, at least they'll know the what and when to be on time and work safely.
As always, excellent video, keep 'em coming. Cheers :)
