- After a sweltering hot sunny day, Thursday July 25th, dark clouds started rolling in from the Bay of Biscay bringing gusty winds, fine rain and thunder to the later sets. This weather change did not stop the good times at Restaurant L'Etoile de Mer, a haven for connoisseurs of the finest sea food and great ambiance. Manager Emma Lahaye with her team had set a table fit for Kings and Queens, to welcome Tuba Skinny, the New Orleanians, who would electrify this cosy jazz club, adding extra spice with their hot music.
Sitting in a very tight side position, the 2nd set was captured in one-go with a hand-held HandyCam, HDR-XR520, in FH quality mode.
Touring France July 2019, Tuba Skinny graced this pleasant sea-side resort of Anglet, just north of Biarritz for a one-night stop-over, before heading for Andernos-les-Bains. Happy to post this footage of the complete 2nd set, unedited. Enjoy! Buying two sets of their CD recordings was just a small token of our appreciation, nothing compared to all the great work Tuba Skinny does shower us with. I've watched so many of these clips but this is really one of my favs. Everyone is having such a good time and the band is in top form (as always). You guys are not only playing great music but your spreading joy around the globe with these concerts. This group needs to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for global happiness! :-)

These young people have Old Time Jazz in their blood, more than many other bands with senior-musicians. Jazz ist something one must UNDERSTAND and FEEL. Improvisation and, at the same time, perfection, thats what makes this music so fascinating. And all these young musicans...every one of them a personality and an artist. And one can see (and feel) that they enjoy playing. And that there is an extremely friendly athmosphere among them. And do not let me begin with Erica and Shayne, I could not stop raving. They are so appealing and beautiful! Thank you so much to the whole band for all what you do for your listeners.

No question her lip has gotten stronger these past few years, and with that glorious tone & phrasing her cornet work is fabulous .... let alone her arrangements and easy 'steering' of the band.
@@87sailorgirl I doubt that there are many who could keep such a group together for so long. She has a core group that apparently now reside in New Orleans, but there are some who are there occasionally - Erika, Jon Doyle, Charlie Halloran, Ewan Bleach, James Evans, Leonie Evans, Russell Ramirez, the list goes on - slipping in and out seamlessly. All of them are top shelf, leading groups of their own, guesting all around the world. It is truly remarkable and Shaye has apparently been playing piano with guest artists weekly, as well. We are blessed to be able to listen and witness such a gifted young lady and her talented musical community.

@@richardtretler6336 Yes, I find this astonishing as well. This is a large band, not a four-piece, and they've been together something like a decade. Another amazing thing is that, as far as we can tell from the videos, they almost never play anywhere but the street and small venues. How can they possibly survive on that kind of cash flow? They've just been in Europe, and it's not at all cheap to finance a European tour. Shaye is some kind of magician as a bandleader, and even if she couldn't play a note she'd get my respect.
I really would like to see this ensemble play live in London... they are fabulous, fantastic and full of my musical dreams

I love how Barnabus plays. He keeps it basic - and always plays the right notes , with the perfect emphasis on every note. He looks so - I hate to say it - dour - that I am always struck by how jubilant his solos are.
