I have to say, this video was an eye opener for me! I've canned quite a bit since I started 2 years ago, but we don't eat out of the pantry much. You have definitely inspired me with how to use more of my home canned food! Also, having most of the recipes linked here is fantastic, thank you so much! I did make your Shepards pie recipe last week..it's lovely. Again, thanks for sharing your labor of love...

Hey, Joette! Let's get you eating through all the wonderful things you've canned! So glad you liked the Cottage Stew! It's hard to go wrong with a base from Gordon Ramsay!

Just wow! My mom is selling her farm and downsizing to a smaller property, so she is giving me all of her jars. She said there are a lot and wondered if I really need that many. I told her it takes about 300 jars per person to feed a family for a year, so heck yeah, bring on the jars! Plus, I'm sure I will be sharing with her and other family members.

I am 77, and I enjoy watching you can. I used to have a 170 acre farm w/ horses, cattle, a large garden, and I canned a lot and I loved it, and I missed it! I decided to start canning again using half pint jars, and I do corn, chicken, beef, sausage, and meatloaf in half pint jars. The half pints are just right for me and most of the time I get two servings, and now I'm one of those old ladies with a cat who thinks he should get that other serving. People with aninals should never throw any scrap of meat away when you can can it for your pets. My pantry used to look like yours but I have to buy vegetables, and where I live people charge extremely high prices, so I try to buy them on sale but they are never as good as my own! I will be canning french fry & steak fry potatoes, applesauce, & apple slices, and whatever fruit I can afford this fall. You have given me good ideas on other things I think I'll try. "I love to can!" Take care and God bless.🙏❤️🕊

I'm so glad you've gotten back into canning! My dog and 2 cats would totally agree with you on the joy of sharing! Not only do they get any "juices" from meats I have canned without seasonings, but they get their own specially canned turkey, chicken, broth, etc too. The unreliability of the pet food supply the past few years really drove home for me that I needed to stock for them as well. I couldn't agree more about the price and availability of good veggies in the stores, but I'm sure you will make the most of whatever you have.

Your pantry is a beautiful place. I have had to move mine from a small storage space in my home to the spare bedroom because I ran out of room. I'm so proud of my pantry because I know how much work went into canning and I'm always in there rearranging things and trying to decide what else I want to experiment with. It's only the 2 of us and I can get carried away easily.

I am in agreement, it is so easy to get carried away. Especially when my granddaughters ask for their favorites and they have both discovered that grandma can also make baby food for my young great-grandsons. I am seriously thinking it would be fun, starting with applesauce and pumpkin puree, both unsweetened. Not so yummy for us, but healthier for the boys.

Carter, I'm a first-time viewer. I've been worrying about how to keep my goods on the shelves during a seismic disturbance. I saw your bungee cords. That's what I'll do. Of course, if the seismic disturbance is quite large, it will all fall over. But I'll let the Lord worry about that one.

Happy Birthday Son💙 I wish I could give thumbs up for every good idea you have, thank you for your time. Although I’ve always canned peaches, my pressure canning career stared last year when I bought a Presto on Black Friday. I would be thrilled to bits if I had 1300 jars of food on my shelf. I also use half pints and pints to can, as I am alone and it’s more practical. 🌸

Totally jealous of your canned pantry. In the last few years, I’ve only started to create a lot of my own food and started to do a little canning. However, I live in an apartment and there’s not a lot of space for me to store up food like you have done. Would love to eventually have a small little Homestead where I can grow and raise some of my own food. then be able to dehydrate from freeze dry, and even have root cellars like my grandparents used to have. It’s funny when I was younger I taught the cellars and stuff was silly. You could get whatever you needed from the store but now that I’m older, and I know more about nutrition and quality food my grandparents having the two root cellars was extremely smart and wise. What I love now about the root cellar they had was one was dry and cool, and the other was damp and cool. My grandfather built the two of them in the dump cool one he put a water feature to create the perfect atmosphere for certain foods.. when I was a kid, my grandmother explained to me how certain foods like different environments, some foods would go in their cool, dark dry cellar, and others would go in the cool, dark, damp cellar. Now that I’m older myself, and after living in cities, my entire life and experiencing the horrendous treatment people received under totalitarian governments through COVID-19. Has made me want to have my own little place where I produce a large portion of my own food. What an eye-opener that whole experience was for me.

Wow, Carter, what a great pantry you have! Those bungie cords guarding your glass jars remind of canning shelves here in California where the temblors occasionally rock and roll us. Oh Carter, such a beautiful, inspiring body of work. I love the variety you have put away. I identify with the person who said they have turned a spare bedroom into a pantry-it reflects what we’ve done. Creating meals from food that I have put away and knowing the exact ingredients we are consuming brings a satisfying peace of mind. I’m making apple and beet things this month with fresh organic produce from Azure. I don’t have any of either of those items currently on my shelves. Congratulations on your well earned continued growth!

Thanks so much for sharing! I was quite impressed with your pantry. This was really the first year I got into canning. I had around 110 jars and I thought that was a lot. Now that I've seen yours with 1300+ cans I feel ok doing more. I love watching your channel and have made a number of your recipies, including Texas chili, potatoes, and sausages. After seeing this, I wrote down a number of items I want to try. I live in Maui, so food security is quite important here. You've inspired me to do more. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge!

    • @growandpreserve
      @growandpreserve  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Welcome, Deborah! So glad to have you here. 110 jars is a huge accomplishment, but as long are you are actually using what you can, you can definitely do more, if you'd like. Food security is critical, especially at a time when supply chains and weather are so temperamental. You do what eases your mind and feeds your family.

Most of my canning has been done as meals. As I am working full-time seven days a week caring for a wild horse refuge. Last winter was a rude awakening. I go to town once a week to get supplies but the snow and ice made this trip extremely difficult. 63 miles took me nearly 4 hours. This year I plan on eating my supplies when this happens. It’s always good to have plenty in stock. I do can a few ingredients for making soups in other things. Watching you ladies on TH-cam, have shown me so many good tricks and techniques for canning different things. Thank you so much for putting this knowledge out there.

I’m just starting on my canning/ bottling journey. I’ve always frozen or dried food before or made pickles & jams. I am in AWE of your pantry. I love the colours too, you can appreciate how the women pioneers of 200years ago would have derived a great deal of pleasure from the filled pantry. I also think that here in NZ we store them differently as we have frequent earthquakes- so we have to take especial care! Then again we don’t have to worry about deer or raccoons… just possums. Great video. Thank you.

Grew up with my mother and grandmother canning everything. Last year we started the canning process and this year our 12× 12 room was maxed out so the husband bought me a 12 x 24 building and we have turned it into a canning kitchen with approximately 1500 jars canned. Yours looks amazing, mine is only what I know we will eat but next summer we will get more creative.

What a beautiful pantry! I am looking forward to seeing what you do with your canned meats. I have lots of beef, chicken and pork on my shelves. I have made a delicious fajita flavored taco bowl with the canned pork. I recently canned pot roast in a jar, and it is so good that I'll never cook pot roast any other way again. Thank you for your wonderful videos!

Hi Carter you mentioned in the video about your remodel and if we had any suggestions.Well here it goes 😂
You mentioned that you don’t use the top oven: Take the oven out and have that converted for your platter/ pie dish storage area. Keep your cookbook area the same because you said several times you love your books there!💜Don’t change what you love just saying lol. Having your books down low will be hard to read titles. The island that you are having built where you were going to put your cookbooks put another dishwasher there by your prep sink so you can have easier access for your just sanitized canning jars😊Could save you time and steps the older we get it helps a lot lol💜

You are a woman after my own heart. We grow and process about 95% of our yearly organic food supply here at the homestead/mini-farm. Being Pescetarians, we don't eat any meat, so our pantry and freezers are packed with veggies of various kinds. We occasionally eat shrimp, tuna, and salmon, but it is probably once weekly, and of course there are "The Girls" for farm-fresh eggs. Keep up the good work(s,) it's very fulfilling to be sustainable and there is nothing like a full pantry for a pat-on-the-back from all the hard work.

Your pantry is beautiful. Reminds me of canning days. I started canning at 5 with my grandmother & and great-grandmother for many, many years, we canned everything, yes in the days long before any government had the crazy idea to tell you, you can't and how dangerous it is to do so. I'm 62 and still going strong with my canning.
