1. Invention: Research, talking, connections 2. Planning: Answer the big questions 3. Drafting: Experiment, see what works 4. Revising: Get feedback, make improvements 5. Editing: Format, structure, style and grammar Thank you ASU and CC. Keep going :)) DFTBA
I would argue that a more organized order would be: 1. Invention: Research, talking, connections 2. Planning: Answering the big questions 3. Drafting: Experiment, see what works 4. Editing: Format, structure, style, and grammar 5. Revising: Get feedback, make improvements Revising should have been the last part of the order because the final work isn't complete before editing, so it makes more sense to revise after the final work is done.
It’s such a good reminder that we all have to work hard at writing. Especially with us all online now, I think it can be so easy to imagine no one else is struggling because we only see everyone else’s final product while we’re feeling the frustration at our own steps.
I'm genuinely excited to take this course! She's so nice and I love the way she explains things, it's really clear and concise:) Keep up the good work, I love all the work and effort you put in
Thank you. I'm studying to become a teacher and I wanted to take a creative writing class this summer but alas, the rona forced my hand into a class I can use in my degree. But thanks to you I get to improve my writing anyway!
I like to write even it is really hard to collect my scattered ideas. What I do is I outline my ideas and try to structure it in a seamless connection/flow. Anyway, this course in writing process would really help me in writing. Patiently waiting for the next video. 😊
How timely I'll need this for resumes cover letters thank you notes and anything else for job searching, just how not to be a lone writer in a cabin/ apartment when there is physical distancing, and you live alone? Thank you. Already touching on my writing nerves.
When I asked for help with the writing process, I got told ‘stop making excuses’ or ‘just write the damn essay’. My god I wish this video had cone out 10-15 years ago. I think a lot of the myths like the “lone genius” model are people trying to make sense of the mental torture they’ve put themselves through trying to do something thats unacceptable to ask for help with.
Well organised and great content. Awesome Speaker. How the animations, texts, background sounds and animated videos created for making videos? I wish there is a crash course how to make interesting videos.
Different people have different writing preferences. What works best for you? Standard computer keyboard, tablet, voice recognition, typewriter, or pen/pencil & paper? Any favorite spots to write? Alone in a quiet room, library, busy café, or outside?
Just because you talk fast and act excited doesn't mean your talk is interesting. In a post youtube, post TEDtalk world almost all presenters feel like they have to act excited and talk fast or they won't get clicks. Just give a good, interesting talk at a normal pace and it will be good. 75% speed of this talk is perfect. 100% speed like this...whoa, slow down. Emphasize. Not rush.
@arizonastateuniversity That means a lot. I do want you to know that I very much appreciate the free educational content you guys put out! Your guys presentation is on point.
Do you? When you hear inspire, all *you* hear is the first definition. "create (a feeling, especially a positive one) in a person. " However, with a bit more research one will find that it has more than one definition, including "animate someone with (such a feeling)." and "give rise to". Meaning that it can in fact 'inspire dread' if it 'gives rise to dread' or 'animates someone with the feeling of dread'. Just in case you're still struggling however, I can fully paint the picture for you. Dread means "great fear or apprehension". Therefore if 'writing can inspire dread' is stated-- it can functionally mean "Writing can give rise to an internal feeling of great fear or apprehension". Now wouldn't you agree that this may be what she meant by her statement? Don't let your preconceived biases affect your ability to think critically and understand people, or you'll end up a pretentious loser. Edit: Also, if you think these video's aren't scripted you're sorely mistaken. Its written by an entire team, not just the one presenting the material. The same can be said for any crash course video. The fact that ASU is involved only adds to that fact.
@@atlow2543 Oh sure. Let's just disregard the meaning of words and the rules of language entirely. Why not just use Smurf for everything? Then we can be sure to be clear as mud. This is the sign of a lazy writer and a lazy mind.
@@seanwebb605 Are you sincerely that daft? Do you genuinely believe that each word is limited to a singular meaning in the English language? The definitions that I provided you with are legitimate official meanings of the words, not something that I merely fabricated on my own. Check the dictionary, you ignorant child.

This is complete bullshit. Do you know the trouble we fell into because of this girl, if you make videos like this, make sure the teachers don't see it 🥲🥲🥲🥲 Thank you girl 🐛

I don't go to ASU. I don't go to college. I don't write. Why am I here.
That’s a good question
I always find difficulty in writing .I think I got solutions now

Great 👍
A bit too focussed on the lens but thats just nitpicking, really well done.
Thank you very much for this video!
Fantastic video! Also, did Michael Phelps go to ASU? 😀
I’ve always wrote in this format but my teachers never used invention and planning they would keep it simple
I feel like she saying don't smash out your essay over a three night power seshing of raw pain
I am hearing the words, but I lack the faith

I feel like presenting should be the 6 step of that writing process. Sometimes, if it's presented poorly, all the other steps become moot.
We appreciate the feedback! We're always looking for ways to make our videos more valuable and we'll take this into consideration moving forward.
