I love this man. I've watched him on the Stephen Colbert show and just not even being an amazing Entertainer and winning an award that is great, but when you see this man he always has a sweet smile. Coming to check this out after the Grammy win! I can already see why it won! What a a beautiful way to represent the city of New Orleans. So gorgeous and lively.
There is such a rich weave of historical culture in this video, from the drill team to the various vocal techniques, to gospel robes. The dance silhouette is right out of the early 30s and the mohair suits from the great soul groups of the 60s. And the cars! And, of course the whole performance is lifted by a modern sensibility - lots of powerful women and girls. I can't get enough.
I just adore his spirit, heart, and soul. He puts so much of himself in his music, and I feel it! You can just tell he truly gets and gives so much joy!

I saw it this morning! I can't find it to watch again. Let me tell ya, it's fantastic! The song and the dancing and the backdrop of New Orleans done so well that it's mesmerizing! So filled with joy and it's sort of LIKE the "Happy" video by Pharrell, but it's BETTER! Absolutely proud of this young man, Jon Batiste, from my home state of Louisiana.

There is such a rich weave of historical culture in this video, from the drill team to the various vocal techniques, to gospel robes. The dance silhouette is right out of the early 30s and the mohair suits from the great soul groups of the 60s. And the cars! And, of course the whole performance is lifted by a modern sensibility - lots of powerful women and girls. I can't get enough.
