  • One of the hardest questions to answer during the interview process is about leaving your job. This might be asking why you already left your last job, or why you want to leave your current job.
It’s a legit question, but sometimes we can be our own worst enemies while answering this!
We want to be honest about why we are leaving, and we want to do it in a tactful way. In this video, I give you a few tips on how to do exactly that, and I even provide you with an example of how I might answer this question!

Hi! Should I mention at all during this question that My role was eliminated at my previous agency due to budget cuts or skip that? With all of these mass layoffs I was impacted but not sure if I should mention that because I do want to be honest as well. Thanks!

I think it's an appropriate answer - especially in this day, layoffs are becoming common so you may want to clarify that you didn't necessarily choose to leave, that you were laid off due to budget cuts and you are now excited for the opportunity to work in this new role with this new company.

No never say you were laid off especially in todays failed company culture always say you are currently still working there even after being laid off.

Why does the job interviewing process have to be such a game?

Thanks for the advice! I have an interesting situation where my position was vacant for a while and I watched all your videos before the interview so I asked this question. The truth was the position had a high turnover rate. Still, the answer was directed more because it was vacant due to COVID and the company was working to fill the position along with 2 other vacant positions in the department, and it just took time to do this. I haven't even been in this position for a year and it's a toxic environment (which is probably the real reason the position was vacant). Do you have any advice on how I can address my short time here during interviews as I look for a new job? Thank you

While I am sure there is additional context I would need to provide you a specific response to this type of question, I think you can be honest by saying your current job isn't the best fit for you and you are looking for a job that better aligns with X, Y, Z. Contact me directly at abby@lwbalance.com to set up a session and we can discuss in more detail!

Hello Abey! How do I response to the Interviewer if it's a wrongful termination? I brought in over $1Million for cost savings in 18 months and were promised for a bonus when my manager presents it to upper management. I got a raised during on my 1:1 on Wednesday and a week later I am gone?

I wouldn't give too many details - that information won't necessarily help you, so I would recommend thinking about why you want this new job and focusing on that - looking for more challenging opportunities, or additional areas to grow and develop yourself, etc.

Also - I am SO sorry you were let go. There are few things that are more upsetting.
