My daughters bf and his mom are coming in a couple weeks from Sweden, I want to have great coffee and have been researching but this is what she uses. According to these parameters I've never had fresh coffee☹ at home. I never knew there was so much to making great coffee, a long ways from my folks 1 scoop to 10 cups of water Mr Coffee lol
Make sure you rinse the filter paper prior to use and preheat the shower head. Also turn the machine on then off in a locked position for a proper bloom (with spooning still).
Was thinking of purchasing this, but who has time to babysit the coffee as it's brewing, too much trouble. My Bonavita makes great coffee, I heat the pot before brewing and saturate the filter with water. Makes excellent coffee for 1/3 the cost of the Moccamaster brewer. Have you ever brewed without stirring? Seems the shower head design should have been round.
I have and it still produces a nice cup. Stirring just adds another level of consistency. Some people like to take the time, and others don’t. Either way I can appreciate both sides.
If you have the 3 setting brew basket that sits on a circular base on your Technivorm, you can simply swivel the brew basket back and forth a few times to more evenly disperse the water on the grounds. Since the sprayarm is off center, rotating the basket back and forth allows the water to disperse around the circumference rather than only in the center and is pretty easy. Once the basket's water level is about as high as it will go, give the basket a gentle side to side shake and then leave it alone. This process will take perhaps a minute. The enitre brew cycle takes about 5-6 minutes for all the water to disperse and another minute or so for the basket to drain. If you wish to stay there the entire time, you can then give the basket a litlle shake during the final drawdown for a flatter bed. If this is too much work for an "Automatic" dirp coffee maker, just simply swiveling the basket back and forth for about a minute and then leave it alone and let it brew on its own should do the trick.
I think the Moccamaster does a fine job at creating a really well-rounded cup of coffee without all this nonsense with the spoon and agitation; it’s almost pointless, you might as well of poured the water yourself. I own a KGBT741 and anyone watching this looking to up there game or refine their method, or equally buy a TMM, the key takeaway here is ‘grind size is important’ - sadly not going much deeper than that as to what size (I get variable, but some depth on that would be great).
An actual pour over seems easier to me to accomplish than messing around with a spoon during an entire brew cycle. He's pretty much the Lone Ranger with the whole spoon deal. Absolutely nobody else does it. There's reason for that. You don't need to do it to get great tasting coffee.
Good video, but I could get a drink if before preparation I washed the paper filter, here I shape the paper filter using filtered water and then I let a little more hot water flow, to eliminate any residue from the paper that could negatively interfere with the final drink, I discard this water with a paper taste and only after that I start the final extraction of the coffee.
What grind setting do you use on your Baratza Virtuoso for the Moccamaster? I've had and loved my Baratza for years now, but just adding a Moccamaster.
@@pathcoffeeroasters8278do you mean number 20 on your Baratza ? Just got mine moccamaster and still dailing it in. Did you do anything to the calibration or did you leave it to the “ factory” setting?
Rick Martin I always start in the middle and then adjust coarser or finer from there to get my desired extraction. It’s very much about personal taste. Feel free to reach out on our site if you have other questions.
What is the True height of this Technivorm Moccamaster unit with lids on? Some sites say 15", some say 15.75". Or is it shorter? Don't know who to believe.
Thank you for that. I just ordered the kbgv. I wanted to know what you use to weigh the beans. I keep hearing that its best to go by the weight of the beans. Did you test the coffee with and without the stirring and how much of a difference do you think it made?
It’s always best to weight your coffee. You can use a regular kitchen gram scale. By stirring you saturate all the grinds asap and then your extraction is more even. Better extraction = better flavor.
The 9 holes shower head on this machine seems kinda useless, because the water gets back to a single stream anyway... Tip: get the "Select" model instead with the improved shower head...
Man, you make this so complicated-- telling stories and going off on tangents, backtracking, interrupting yourself, restarting the process, detailing totally unnecessary things. And you omitted many other important things. Are you stoned? @ 8:55 you messed around so much with your brew it failed to settle and I bet it's luke warm -- as you said a "minute or two' ! Swirl method? Proper extraction? Seriously, waiting 12 minutes for a cup of coffee, the Moccamaster makes in 4 minutes perfectly without any messing around. 🙄
true, i stayed with manual pour over for years because i liked being up in the mix of the entire process...but im tired of standing over it for 10 or more minutes so thats why i got this machine... im not going to take the top off and put a spoon into it- the whole point is to have the machine do that now
I'm gonna go ahead and watch this video, then I'm gonna go ahead and brew some coffee, then I'll go ahead and drink it.. hint: please say "go ahead" less.
This is why I never trust anything on TH-cam. "Yummy" .. LOL no. I'd never drink that fresh roasted of a coffee. Minimum 5 to 7 days after roasting. Also if I'm going to go to this much effort I might as well do a pour over. I have no problems with the Coffee machine manufacturer, though if I had to pick one it would be the Select and I prefer glass. Coffee sitting there for any length of time gets exponentially bad literally over minutes once brewed .. metal carafe or not.
Man... some coffee people are like Vegan people. SO JUDGEMENTAL and self righteous. You must do it the PROPER way or you are a poser. He said to wait. Don't get your panties in a bunch. Maybe cut back on the brew.
@@sendhelp6537 .. Once you actually try just roasted coffee vs the same coffee a week later then I'll listen. Otherwise spewing nonsense it's impossible to listen.
He said not to use coffee a day after roasting, he legit said to wait 5-7 days. Perhaps you jumped around instead of watching the video in it's entirety. You honestly don't have to do any of the stirring or swirling with a Moccamaster; It's just one of the few drip makers that you can do it with due to it's design. If I have time when making a pot I do stir it for no other reason than it's just something to do. If I'm being honest, I'm not sure that it makes a huge difference.
Just received this unit today. My mornings will be devoted to coffee for days.
I hope our video helps. Happy brewing.
Very informative video. Thank you!

Does the thermal keep the coffee warmer than the glass?
I've never had a carafe keep coffee as warm as the MM. Coffee is still hot 24 hrs later. Not drinking hot but hot

Thanks Orrin, glad you got some pointers from it. We look forward to getting more videos up soon.

Why are you saying "Technovorm" twice at the end?
Came here for the Virtuoso setting and left broken hearted.
Sorry about that. I did mention starting in the middle of the dial, however grind setting really is coffee and taste specific.
wet the filter
