My symptoms are that the driver door lock can only be done from turning the key in the lock or pulling twice the door opening latch. It doesnt lock by remote, by dash switch or self-lock over 10kmph. The passenger side works perfectly in all ways. Thank you.
Hello and thank you for your videos! I have a 2008 R52 Mini Cooper S Convertible Sidewalk. Symptoms. 1) re-occurring airbag light (reset by dealer twice (passenger airbag seat sensor replacement recall done, airbag light still comes back on)), 2) Steering Angle Sensor Fault Light On (was going to replace the sensor but decided to first see if it was related to the other ghosts in the machine), 3) While driving, seatbelt buckle reminder light will go on with seat belts (both) buckled, 4) Turn signal will not go off with lever in center position. Also turn indicator will not activate when lever is put in up or down position, 5) Tire Low Pressure light will illuminate for a minute or two and then go off. (tires are fully pressurized), 6) Amber display (mpg, etc.) on driver cluster and amber display (trip odometer, etc.) on center cluster will disappear completely for 10 seconds to a minute while driving. Windows work fine, top works fine, car drives great otherwise. However, the trunk button on the remote does not function. Also, the dealer was not able to active the all windows down and sunroof open from key fob feature that should be available on my Mini. I realize that some of these symptoms are likely not related to the footwell module but I have not been able to find a good manual or reference so I can learn the ins and outs of the car. Hi I have a 2001 built 2002 Mini Cooper R50. I have recently replaced the wheel speed sensors and ABS module. The ASC light was on so when i went to turn the light off with the toggle it fried the toggle PCB at the ASC toggle position, got a sizzle noise and smoke, confirmed later by pulling apart the toggle unit. However coinciding with the blowing of the toggle pcb, I lost the rev counter,speedo, and headlights. Just the needle function of both gauges, I have replaced the toggle unit with no result. Do you think i have fried the BC1? All related fuses and relays are o.k . Thanks for your videos!

Hello thanks for the vid. Question my Windshield wipers randomly cut on at start up and will not stop until car is powered off - Radio won’t turn on - HVAC system has power but will not blow any air. Car some times won’t start. I just ordered the ignition to see if that does anything. Any help would be great👍🏽

I have a 2006 Cooper, the faults I have are 1)cooling fan runs 5seconds after engine is started 2)power steering pump is operating when ignition is on before starting engine. 3)xenon headlights work when engine is off and for the first 5 seconds after starting then they flicker really fast. I had to remove the battery to change the gearbox mount and since putting back together I've had issues, windows not working, indicators not working and vehicle not wanting to start first time. I've found a replacement BCM online. Is this plug and play? And if I don't get the BCM cloned what won't work?
Thank for the video, I have a 2003 R53 Min Cooper S - symptoms are internal lights turning on randomly, car unlocks itself and then keeps trying to unlock which you can hear when standing next to the car. This has in turn flattened the battery but with a little push start goes no problem. Have been told through a club it was the BCM is this correct or another fault do you think? Informative video! I got a 2004 MCS, ac button doesn’t illuminate or work. Sunroof works perfectly only when connector is unplugged and replugged, this does not work when the car ignition is ON, only works when the car has been turned OFF. And finally Remote control locking doesn’t work. BCU problem maybe?
Hi mate, thank you for the video. My mini has a variety of issues.. -brake lights stay on after car is off -Speedo stops working -Auto gearbox gets stuck in gears and needs car turned off and on to reset. -Radio doesn’t work sometime -sun roof doesn’t open sometimes -car wouldn’t start for 5-10 minutes every now and then. (Just cranking over) -now it isn’t starting at all (just cranking over. Is this the symptoms of a BCU? I will be forever in your debt if you can help me wrap my head around this🙏🏼
Got into my 2006 R52 tonight and had no illumination on my speedo, rev counter, line of switches, indicator stalk etc but everything working outside eg: head/side lights, indicators & brake lights!.... Would this be a fuse gone somewhere or something else? - Not had a chance to get out there and check yet as it's been peeing down all down but just thought I'd ask as I'm on here atm 🤔🤔

Hi, I have a feb 2002 cooper, my ABS has a mind of its own and my garage has diagnosed BC1 not communicating, and found damp in the footwell. They have told me they are no longer available from BMW/MINI and I cannot fit one from another car, hence the car is a write off, any advice would be most welcome, thanks Karl.
I need help!!!!! I can't get the bloody green plug out!!! It has two pins on each side that follow the slot yet the pins are straight up and down. I don't want to manhandle it; there must be a proper way to do it, just, I don't see it
Hi, Great Video. Very informative. Thanks a lot. My car has a lot of electrical issues and I'm now thinking these could be related to BCM failure. When switching off the ignition the car continues to run at times and the battery needs to be disconnected to get it to stop. also, it switches off just fine at other times but the Rear brake lights stay on & all the ignition lights are illuminated even though the key has been removed from ignition. I've already replaced the ignition as I've heard these are problematic but this hasn't made any difference. Id be very grateful for any advice you can offer :-) Many thanks . . .
Okay I've a R53 , recently developed a fault , Starter won't Engage , sometimes once I go Crank the steering pump will start , sometimes is won't. I bump started it and its worked fine . Replaced ignition switch . Still got the same Problems..... could this be a BCM On hindsight sometimes it cranks and sometimes is doesn't. Read forums but many kurb side mechanics pointing at at Battery Battery is good ! So can you shed any light on it ?

Eyup, informative video thanks for sharing it. tonight my 2005 cooper s when i rev over 1800 rpm the traction lights come on eml tpms and the gauges freeze but the needles flicker and buzz, at the same time the power steering stops working and the headlamps turn off, if i let it idle its perfectly fine. i suspect bcm and after digging a bit read that if i buy the bcm, ecu, keys and locks i wont need to code it?? could you clarify
I have a r52 where the roof does not work and heated rear window does these go through the bcm I haven't looked yet for damp but I have checked all fuses and relays changed roof module as I had one with car and but still no power to these things
Having issues with my mini cooper. Its a 2006 base model mini without a convertible. I had to jump the battery today and when i got to where i was going i turned off the key pulled it out of the ignition and the car continued to run with the key in my hand. Could this have to do with this BCM going bad or would it be something else? Any Ideas im out of a vehicle till i get this issue resolved.

Hi I have a R50 2006 model, the engine won't crank, all dashboard lights light up. There is a relay click on the passenger side kick panel when turning the ignition. The supply voltage to the starter is there, is there any other supply that I need to check that will cause the engine to crank up?

Hi I have just had a problem start today and suspect it's the bcu, possibly caused by the recent bad weather, possible short. The electrics have gone haywire and erratic different things seem to happen on and off. Some of the issues are, central locking not working, wipers going on and off at random with no input and stopping in random places head lights on all the time and intermittently flashing, no indicators or hazards, hot air blower not working intermittently, windows not working intermittently, interior lights flashing and just general random electrical issues. I've swapped the battery, checked all the blade fuses and they are all OK and dry. Does this sound like a bcu issue and fixable with a bcu swap? Any advice welcome. Also what should I expect to pay for a reprogramming thanks
Thanks for that - we have a 2007 convertable sidewalk ....central locking doesn't work and when I turn off engine and ignition tge wipers come on and won't go off, drivers side footwell very damp after recent rain - sound like BCM? any idea where I can send it to be repaired ?
I replaced my footwell module with a second hand module, central locking does not work (not a big deal) but the kicker is that you have to turn everything OFF before turning the ignition off off. i.e. having the headlamps on, switching the ignition off and then the lights remain on and do not turn off when commanded by the instrument stalk. This has led the SignificantOther to call me up after finishing a shift to find the car with a flat battery. Is this normal or just quirky for me?
My Cooper S R53 was fine until just before chrimbo and now cannot get the car to central lock with the key. Everything else works properly, lights, radio wipers, central locking switch inside but tried to re-pair the keys to the car and nothing. Changed out mirror sensor and no change, BCM seems to be my last point of failure as the diagnostic kit I have talks to all parts of the car except for the BCM, so I think I need to get it out. Have you, or anyone, come across this before?
i have a 2008 mini copper s turbo automatic hard top.The problem i having is no reverse lights???? bulbs are good ,no power to pin at real lights,all fuses under hood are good ,all fuses at power box on the passenger side are good???? from dealer they said this does not have a reverse switch this makes sense and why i cant fineit. would the footwell mod cause this??? hope you cane help Gary
That’s a good question there is a reverse light switch but I believe it’s built into the selector lever, I highly doubt it’s the BCU usually when the bcu begins to fail you will have other problems too such as central locking not behaving etc. I would have an auto electrician test the wiring and selector lever switch
Hi, does the bcm control power to the tailgate release and number plate lights. I cut the wires on the number plate lights circuit whilst live. Cannot seem to find a fuse anywhere on the car. Cheers

Hi I've got a 2002 Mini One. Passenger side indicator stays on permanently when indicating left but only when the engine is on. I think this sounds like BCM issue but can this fixed such as re-soldering any dodgy looking connections on the board? Hi... I'm going to open up the unit on my 2002 cooper 1.6...key opens and locks doors and everything lights up as normal when ignition is turned on. However give the key that final turn to start it up and nothing. Won't even turn over. I was also thinking about the immobiliser unit situated near the bcu. Could that be at fault and if so would a used one need to be programmed in??.. Cheers..

lucio martinez possibly I havnt come across all these problems together they are all usually seperate faults, you need to have it scanned for the fault codes first then come back to us.

Hi I’m not sure if you will reply but, my left side indicators (front, side, rear) all work, on the left side, the front works but the side and rear don’t. However when I switch side and rear lamps to the left working sides it all works. What could the issue be?

I have an r50 and when I lock the car from the outside it locks and unlocks which sets the alarm off after a minute or so as I need the key in the ignition after I unlock it as a safety feature, I don’t have central locking as I think the battery is dead (only had it a couple of months) hoping it wasn’t the bcu as I font really have the money
No that’s not the BCU I’ve had this before I’m pretty sure it was the alarm module but a quick fix if you can’t afford take the alarm fuse out it will cure the locking problem. , please subscribe for free if you havnt already it helps us out. Thanks
Hi . I need to replace my bc1 but the problem I am having is disconnecting the green connector. does it need a special tool?. It looks like it has to be slid to one side before removal.
I'm having the same problem - did you get your green connector disconnected without breaking anything? Other videos I've watched seems like everyone has problems getting it out.
please could you help me mate, i changed my catalytic converter and suspension and since then, my car turns on with the battery light showing, and power steering doesn’t work, i rev it to about 2.5k and it the steering works and lights turn off... i press the brake and the headlights dim, i’ve had a new battery in and the car keeps dying, i’m sure it isn’t the alternator
Hi not sur eif you may know, but basically I own a Mini Cooper D, 65 reg and a friend came over from the States and connected his phone my central display system. After that it keeps turning on with the mini logo then switching off. I've seen on forums that this has happened to alotof other people woth their display. I've ched the fuses and they're all fine. Do you know anything else that could help? Cheers!!

Just got an 05 s and sometimes my wipers in the back stop randomly then start again my windshield wipers only work on the last 2 settings and my driver door doesn't like to unlock i have to hit lock and unlock a few times. Also when indicating my hazard light on the dash illuminates not a left or right directional arrow. Thanks for any input
Think you have a couple of issues going on the drivers door will be the door actuator (door lock) regarding the wipers that’s most likely a switch issue the stalks can go faulty I would be surprised if a BCU would cause that. Finally the hazard light is strange never come across it to be honest I wouldn’t like to guess your best bet may be getting an auto electrician out for the sake of £70-80 to confirm each fault rather than throwing expensive parts at it. Sorry I can’t be much more help without testing it myself.

Knew nothing of fixing BMW Mini until few days ago, nephew bought one. But, then i was told pass. door wouldn't open, or drivers window. Also headlights playing up, randomly on when selected. So after a day trying to fix, i pulled the plug on the Body Control Unit (behind plastic trim next to accel. pedal RHD cars) squeezed in a touch the female sockets on the big green plug, refit and everything works fine. Also it looks like where the bonnet release lever is mounted, it's located by a hole in the sidewall, that i noticed was slightly rusty. Is this the source of damp ruining the BCU on some cars?
Yes the big green plug at the bottom you can try and clean the pins if your lucky, but normally gets into the circuit board too and requires replacement.
Hi, I have a R52 with the black BCM... no water ingress visible. Lights and indicators work externally but no tell-tails on the dash and the dash not illuminating! Roof not working and rear windscreen not heating, but other dash functions are okay! (Speedo etc fine!) trying to think if it’s BCM or dash wiring? (I did change the radio for a CD player and wonder if it could be an earthing issue??) your help would be greatly appreciated! Great Vid, keep up the hard work!
Hi my hazard light on the clocks won't light up and central locking locks the unlocks on its own and my mini has electronic climate control keeps going off when I unplug the blue plug on the body control unit heater and all lights up. Hi, My BCM had gone. Defo misting up in car. Hi, moisture. Can you swap R50 53. For the same PFL or R50 needs, R50 and R53 need R53. Does it need coding on all swaps or just when you use PFL on a PFL. Car ?

Have a Mini Cooper R50 and an issue with OS main beam only flickering then staying on until battery disconnected. Then after BC1 unit was checked by BBA, the NS main beam only did exactly the same! The drivers footwell is very wet, and have noticed issue may be after a lot of rain then warm sun? Could this be water vapour causing an issue again with the BC1 as BBA tested again and said no fault found? Thanks for the video!
Ok so basically looking at the wiring diagrams for the R50 it can only really be the BC1 causing the issue I would recommend buying a second hand one to plug in without coding and see if the problem cures if the problem is corrected then have it coded to the car so the central locking will work on the replacement BCU/BC1
Great video. We have a 2002 Mini Cooper that the ignition lights stay on when the key is removed and subsequently the car won't lock ! Could this be the BCM or the ignition switch. I got a guy to come out and he plugged in his diagnostics but couldn't find a fault on the computer.
Sounds like bcm try a replacement bcm used part from eBay shouldn’t be too expensive, I have another video on how to replace them and what to look for. The central locking won’t work until the bcm is coded to the car but if the dash lights work as they should then have a auto electrician or mini specialist code it in.

Have a r50 number plate lights flash with keys out no dash lights or indicator in the car but work outside drivers door dont work off remote and side lights on dim with keys out looked over all the plugs no corrosion seen at all

Hi mate Need some advice if you can help. Had a faulty bcm 2003 mini cooper aluminum case. Bought another off eday said it was tested. Got it reprogrammed to my car. Plugged it in. Alarm goes off car starts and runs but alarm keeps going off and central locking don't work. So put old one back on but central locking don't work and central locking don't work. What's my options Thanks if you can help.
Jon Marshall it’s highly unlikely it’s been Tested or if it has it may have been tested when the donor car was stripped and sat in a damp storage room for 6 months + firstly did the central locking work before you began swapping bcms?

Hi, My front wipers wont work some mornings, the rear wiper will, and the front wiper would come on when I used the washers. But other than that, nothing! Then about an hour down the road they decide to work as normal... a few weeks ago when we had floods, I drove through a huge puddle! And i felt drops of water hit my legs! Do you think this could be a BCM problem? If so, do you have a rough price to get one programmed? Thanks!
It sounds from the description you’ve given more like a faulty wiper stalk they are common to fail too.. you can replace them fairly easily at home. BCM is still possible but you would more than likely suffer other problems too such as lights staying on, central locking playing up etc.. hope this helps
Hey Mini Gurus in my 02 R50 the sunroof only operates when the radio is disconnected. If there’s power to the radio the sunroof is non functional also when the radio has power it is either blank or completely lit up like it’s in some form of test mode I’m leaning towards a bad radio but is it possible for bcm to cause this?
Ideally without guessing you will need wiring diagrams and test the circuit to find the culprit, bcm is possible however we have never seen this fault before. If you don’t want to test wiring or pay someone to test wiring then start with cheapest option probably a second hand radio. Many thanks MG
yo! slightly off topic question but I am stuck. R56, one of my senders just reads ***.** & the sender and cable to the foot well module are fine. I have tested for resistance at the FRM and also wired a known resistor in place. weirdly I get mV at the senders but one still reads and gives half tank level only (expected) not sure if my issue is gauge or BCM? any help will be much appreciated
Thanks for the video. I have an R52. For a few months I have an error message displayed, "EP", Emergency Program, for the automatic shifting, instead of the current gear. Someone suggested it could be caused by faulty/wet BCU. What do you think?
Firstly you need have the car battery tested it can still read 12+ volts and be faulty if there is a bad cell, I would recommend replacing the battery regardless if it is the original BMW unit. Then have the fault memory reset and transmission adaptations reset. You may find this fixes the problem. Please like and subscribe if this helps

BelRiose2000 , yes unfortunately you could try and disconnect the battery for half an hour and re connect but failing that you’ll need a shop with the correct diagnostic equipment to reset either a specialist or main dealer unfortunately
My head lights dont turn on and my turn signals dont work. However, my hazards work fine and my high beams turn on when held in position. I have replaced the signal stack but the same thing happens. Do you think it is a Body control module?
Think mine is faulty, 2008 Mini Cooper s convertible, the computer screen keeps going on and off and the wipers go on without touching arm lever, also trouble staring sometimes, when it doesn’t start well the dcu light is highlighted, TIA
Yes all body related items run though the BCU it’s most likely the cause of your problem but shorting wires and switches shouldn’t be ruled out. You plug a second hand replacement BCU in and see if that cures your fault or alternatively have an auto electrician confirm it for you
Hello, I bought a 2006 Mini Cooper Convertible at a blind online auction. The car is completely dead. Fully charged battery, and the only response is when I turn the key all the way to start and the accessory lights come on for a second and will stay on as long as I hold the key in the start position. I replaced the fuse interior panel and exterior panel. I replaced the ignition switch too, and still the same problem. All the fuses are good, but only half the fuse box works. Please help.
portugeepride possibly a faulty junction box which is basically the fuse board, before going any further I would be carrying out wiring checks if your not confident doing this pay an auto electrician to diagnose it for you first it will be worth paying £100 or so.. it’s not a common fault and I would be shocked if BCU is at fault with this problem.
Hi there, after some advice please. I have the ABS, flat tyre, traction control and handbrake light on and the speedo comes on and off sporadically. When the speedo works the lights go off when I have the foot brake on. I have replaced all of the ABS sensors but no joy. Could the BCM be the cause. Thanks
Ray Thomas no I wouldn’t have the BCM is the problem here, neither is the instrument cluster it’s usually a broken wire behind the dash that’s dragging the coms line down to the instruments (speedo) if your not confident doing this have an auto-electrician test the wiring.
Hi. We have an R50 that is telling us that there is a problem with the head airbag right. We don't have one so how do we fix something that we haven't got? Any advice would be great.
Hmm difficult one you either need to do what I did on this video use a resistance tester then fit a resistor to remove the warning light I’m not sure what ohm resistor you will need for a curtain airbag, easiest way would be to buy a second hand airbag and swap it they won’t be expensive and doesn’t need coding in. @@theminigurus4299 There has never been a certain bag fitted so why would I buy one? I would not know where to plug it in. I do have a 2.2 resistor and can fool the system with it but I have nowhere to put it as I've never had a head air bag. It's my problem. Hi I have an issue on a 2003 R50. The sidelights and interior lights stay on when switched off and keys out and as a cosiquence the battery drains over night. Is this likely to be a fix on the bcu, replacement or can it be fixed with a code reader? Thanks
Thank you for your videos - so knowledgeable. If you have an opinion whether i am facing BC1 problem vs lock actuator problem it would be great to hear it. My symptoms are that the driver door lock can only be done from turning the key in the lock or pulling twice the door opening latch. It doesnt lock by remote, by dash switch or self-lock over 10kmph. The passenger side works perfectly in all ways. Thank you.
Hello and thank you for your videos! I have a 2008 R52 Mini Cooper S Convertible Sidewalk. Symptoms. 1) re-occurring airbag light (reset by dealer twice (passenger airbag seat sensor replacement recall done, airbag light still comes back on)), 2) Steering Angle Sensor Fault Light On (was going to replace the sensor but decided to first see if it was related to the other ghosts in the machine), 3) While driving, seatbelt buckle reminder light will go on with seat belts (both) buckled, 4) Turn signal will not go off with lever in center position. Also turn indicator will not activate when lever is put in up or down position, 5) Tire Low Pressure light will illuminate for a minute or two and then go off. (tires are fully pressurized), 6) Amber display (mpg, etc.) on driver cluster and amber display (trip odometer, etc.) on center cluster will disappear completely for 10 seconds to a minute while driving.
Windows work fine, top works fine, car drives great otherwise. However, the trunk button on the remote does not function. Also, the dealer was not able to active the all windows down and sunroof open from key fob feature that should be available on my Mini. I realize that some of these symptoms are likely not related to the footwell module but I have not been able to find a good manual or reference so I can learn the ins and outs of the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, John

Hi I have a 2001 built 2002 Mini Cooper R50. I have recently replaced the wheel speed sensors and ABS module. The ASC light was on so when i went to turn the light off with the toggle it fried the toggle PCB at the ASC toggle position, got a sizzle noise and smoke, confirmed later by pulling apart the toggle unit. However coinciding with the blowing of the toggle pcb, I lost the rev counter,speedo, and headlights. Just the needle function of both gauges, I have replaced the toggle unit with no result. Do you think i have fried the BC1? All related fuses and relays are o.k . Thanks for your videos!

2)power steering pump is operating when ignition is on before starting engine.
3)xenon headlights work when engine is off and for the first 5 seconds after starting then they flicker really fast.

I have an R52. I had to remove the battery to change the gearbox mount and since putting back together I've had issues, windows not working, indicators not working and vehicle not wanting to start first time.
I've found a replacement BCM online. Is this plug and play? And if I don't get the BCM cloned what won't work?

Informative video! I got a 2004 MCS, ac button doesn’t illuminate or work. Sunroof works perfectly only when connector is unplugged and replugged, this does not work when the car ignition is ON, only works when the car has been turned OFF. And finally Remote control locking doesn’t work. BCU problem maybe?

-Auto gearbox gets stuck in gears and needs car turned off and on to reset.

Got into my 2006 R52 tonight and had no illumination on my speedo, rev counter, line of switches, indicator stalk etc but everything working outside eg: head/side lights, indicators & brake lights!.... Would this be a fuse gone somewhere or something else? - Not had a chance to get out there and check yet as it's been peeing down all down but just thought I'd ask as I'm on here atm 🤔🤔

Hi, I have a feb 2002 cooper, my ABS has a mind of its own and my garage has diagnosed BC1 not communicating, and found damp in the footwell. They have told me they are no longer available from BMW/MINI and I cannot fit one from another car, hence the car is a write off, any advice would be most welcome, thanks Karl.

Hi, Great Video. Very informative. Thanks a lot. My car has a lot of electrical issues and I'm now thinking these could be related to BCM failure. When switching off the ignition the car continues to run at times and the battery needs to be disconnected to get it to stop. also, it switches off just fine at other times but the Rear brake lights stay on & all the ignition lights are illuminated even though the key has been removed from ignition. I've already replaced the ignition as I've heard these are problematic but this hasn't made any difference. Id be very grateful for any advice you can offer :-) Many thanks . . .

Okay I've a R53 , recently developed a fault , Starter won't Engage , sometimes once I go Crank the steering pump will start , sometimes is won't. I bump started it and its worked fine . Replaced ignition switch . Still got the same Problems..... could this be a BCM
On hindsight sometimes it cranks and sometimes is doesn't. Read forums but many kurb side mechanics pointing at at Battery Battery is good ! So can you shed any light on it ?

Eyup, informative video thanks for sharing it. tonight my 2005 cooper s when i rev over 1800 rpm the traction lights come on eml tpms and the gauges freeze but the needles flicker and buzz, at the same time the power steering stops working and the headlamps turn off, if i let it idle its perfectly fine. i suspect bcm and after digging a bit read that if i buy the bcm, ecu, keys and locks i wont need to code it?? could you clarify

Having issues with my mini cooper. Its a 2006 base model mini without a convertible. I had to jump the battery today and when i got to where i was going i turned off the key pulled it out of the ignition and the car continued to run with the key in my hand. Could this have to do with this BCM going bad or would it be something else? Any Ideas im out of a vehicle till i get this issue resolved.

Hi I have a R50 2006 model, the engine won't crank, all dashboard lights light up. There is a relay click on the passenger side kick panel when turning the ignition. The supply voltage to the starter is there, is there any other supply that I need to check that will cause the engine to crank up?

Hi I have just had a problem start today and suspect it's the bcu, possibly caused by the recent bad weather, possible short.
The electrics have gone haywire and erratic different things seem to happen on and off.
Some of the issues are, central locking not working, wipers going on and off at random with no input and stopping in random places head lights on all the time and intermittently flashing, no indicators or hazards, hot air blower not working intermittently, windows not working intermittently, interior lights flashing and just general random electrical issues.
I've swapped the battery, checked all the blade fuses and they are all OK and dry.
Does this sound like a bcu issue and fixable with a bcu swap? Any advice welcome. Also what should I expect to pay for a reprogramming thanks

Thanks for that - we have a 2007 convertable sidewalk ....central locking doesn't work and when I turn off engine and ignition tge wipers come on and won't go off, drivers side footwell very damp after recent rain - sound like BCM? any idea where I can send it to be repaired ?
I replaced my footwell module with a second hand module, central locking does not work (not a big deal) but the kicker is that you have to turn everything OFF before turning the ignition off off.
i.e. having the headlamps on, switching the ignition off and then the lights remain on and do not turn off when commanded by the instrument stalk.
This has led the SignificantOther to call me up after finishing a shift to find the car with a flat battery.
Is this normal or just quirky for me?
My Cooper S R53 was fine until just before chrimbo and now cannot get the car to central lock with the key. Everything else works properly, lights, radio wipers, central locking switch inside but tried to re-pair the keys to the car and nothing. Changed out mirror sensor and no change, BCM seems to be my last point of failure as the diagnostic kit I have talks to all parts of the car except for the BCM, so I think I need to get it out. Have you, or anyone, come across this before?
i have a 2008 mini copper s turbo automatic hard top.The problem i having is no reverse lights???? bulbs are good ,no power to pin at real lights,all fuses under hood are good ,all fuses at power box on the passenger side are good???? from dealer they said this does not have a reverse switch this makes sense and why i cant fineit. would the footwell mod cause this??? hope you cane help Gary
That’s a good question there is a reverse light switch but I believe it’s built into the selector lever, I highly doubt it’s the BCU usually when the bcu begins to fail you will have other problems too such as central locking not behaving etc. I would have an auto electrician test the wiring and selector lever switch
Hi, does the bcm control power to the tailgate release and number plate lights. I cut the wires on the number plate lights circuit whilst live. Cannot seem to find a fuse anywhere on the car. Cheers

Hi I've got a 2002 Mini One. Passenger side indicator stays on permanently when indicating left but only when the engine is on. I think this sounds like BCM issue but can this fixed such as re-soldering any dodgy looking connections on the board? Hi... I'm going to open up the unit on my 2002 cooper 1.6...key opens and locks doors and everything lights up as normal when ignition is turned on. However give the key that final turn to start it up and nothing. Won't even turn over. I was also thinking about the immobiliser unit situated near the bcu. Could that be at fault and if so would a used one need to be programmed in??.. Cheers..

lucio martinez possibly I havnt come across all these problems together they are all usually seperate faults, you need to have it scanned for the fault codes first then come back to us.

Hi I’m not sure if you will reply but, my left side indicators (front, side, rear) all work, on the left side, the front works but the side and rear don’t. However when I switch side and rear lamps to the left working sides it all works. What could the issue be?

My power steering is going out on my r53 and I started to have a paracidic power drain. Could this be because of the body control unit?
I have an r50 and when I lock the car from the outside it locks and unlocks which sets the alarm off after a minute or so as I need the key in the ignition after I unlock it as a safety feature, I don’t have central locking as I think the battery is dead (only had it a couple of months) hoping it wasn’t the bcu as I font really have the money
No that’s not the BCU I’ve had this before I’m pretty sure it was the alarm module but a quick fix if you can’t afford take the alarm fuse out it will cure the locking problem. , please subscribe for free if you havnt already it helps us out. Thanks
Hi . I need to replace my bc1 but the problem I am having is disconnecting the green connector. does it need a special tool?. It looks like it has to be slid to one side before removal.
I'm having the same problem - did you get your green connector disconnected without breaking anything? Other videos I've watched seems like everyone has problems getting it out.
please could you help me mate, i changed my catalytic converter and suspension and since then, my car turns on with the battery light showing, and power steering doesn’t work, i rev it to about 2.5k and it the steering works and lights turn off... i press the brake and the headlights dim, i’ve had a new battery in and the car keeps dying, i’m sure it isn’t the alternator
Hi not sur eif you may know, but basically I own a Mini Cooper D, 65 reg and a friend came over from the States and connected his phone my central display system. After that it keeps turning on with the mini logo then switching off. I've seen on forums that this has happened to alotof other people woth their display. I've ched the fuses and they're all fine. Do you know anything else that could help?

Just got an 05 s and sometimes my wipers in the back stop randomly then start again my windshield wipers only work on the last 2 settings and my driver door doesn't like to unlock i have to hit lock and unlock a few times. Also when indicating my hazard light on the dash illuminates not a left or right directional arrow. Thanks for any input
Think you have a couple of issues going on the drivers door will be the door actuator (door lock) regarding the wipers that’s most likely a switch issue the stalks can go faulty I would be surprised if a BCU would cause that. Finally the hazard light is strange never come across it to be honest I wouldn’t like to guess your best bet may be getting an auto electrician out for the sake of £70-80 to confirm each fault rather than throwing expensive parts at it. Sorry I can’t be much more help without testing it myself.

Is the unit in the same place on an R56 model - UK driver side?
Knew nothing of fixing BMW Mini until few days ago, nephew bought one. But, then i was told pass. door wouldn't open, or drivers window. Also headlights playing up, randomly on when selected. So after a day trying to fix, i pulled the plug on the Body Control Unit (behind plastic trim next to accel. pedal RHD cars) squeezed in a touch the female sockets on the big green plug, refit and everything works fine. Also it looks like where the bonnet release lever is mounted, it's located by a hole in the sidewall, that i noticed was slightly rusty. Is this the source of damp ruining the BCU on some cars?
Yes the big green plug at the bottom you can try and clean the pins if your lucky, but normally gets into the circuit board too and requires replacement.
Hi, I have a R52 with the black BCM... no water ingress visible. Lights and indicators work externally but no tell-tails on the dash and the dash not illuminating! Roof not working and rear windscreen not heating, but other dash functions are okay! (Speedo etc fine!) trying to think if it’s BCM or dash wiring? (I did change the radio for a CD player and wonder if it could be an earthing issue??) your help would be greatly appreciated! Great Vid, keep up the hard work!

Hi my hazard light on the clocks won't light up and central locking locks the unlocks on its own and my mini has electronic climate control keeps going off when I unplug the blue plug on the body control unit heater and all lights up. Victor Munoz sounds like typical BC1 symptoms however the trunk may be the micro switch or corroded plug pins
Have a Mini Cooper R50 and an issue with OS main beam only flickering then staying on until battery disconnected. Then after BC1 unit was checked by BBA, the NS main beam only did exactly the same!
The drivers footwell is very wet, and have noticed issue may be after a lot of rain then warm sun? Could this be water vapour causing an issue again with the BC1 as BBA tested again and said no fault found? Thanks for the video!
Ok so basically looking at the wiring diagrams for the R50 it can only really be the BC1 causing the issue I would recommend buying a second hand one to plug in without coding and see if the problem cures if the problem is corrected then have it coded to the car so the central locking will work on the replacement BCU/BC1

Long term yes but to test it no. If you want the central locking to work it needs coding but to test and start engine etc it’s fine I un-coded
Great video. We have a 2002 Mini Cooper that the ignition lights stay on when the key is removed and subsequently the car won't lock ! Could this be the BCM or the ignition switch. I got a guy to come out and he plugged in his diagnostics but couldn't find a fault on the computer.
Sounds like bcm try a replacement bcm used part from eBay shouldn’t be too expensive, I have another video on how to replace them and what to look for. The central locking won’t work until the bcm is coded to the car but if the dash lights work as they should then have a auto electrician or mini specialist code it in.

Have a r50 number plate lights flash with keys out no dash lights or indicator in the car but work outside drivers door dont work off remote and side lights on dim with keys out looked over all the plugs no corrosion seen at all

Jon Marshall it’s highly unlikely it’s been Tested or if it has it may have been tested when the donor car was stripped and sat in a damp storage room for 6 months + firstly did the central locking work before you began swapping bcms?

Hi, My front wipers wont work some mornings, the rear wiper will, and the front wiper would come on when I used the washers. But other than that, nothing! Then about an hour down the road they decide to work as normal... a few weeks ago when we had floods, I drove through a huge puddle! And i felt drops of water hit my legs! Do you think this could be a BCM problem? If so, do you have a rough price to get one programmed? Thanks!
It sounds from the description you’ve given more like a faulty wiper stalk they are common to fail too.. you can replace them fairly easily at home. BCM is still possible but you would more than likely suffer other problems too such as lights staying on, central locking playing up etc.. hope this helps

Hey Mini Gurus in my 02 R50 the sunroof only operates when the radio is disconnected. If there’s power to the radio the sunroof is non functional also when the radio has power it is either blank or completely lit up like it’s in some form of test mode I’m leaning towards a bad radio but is it possible for bcm to cause this?
Ideally without guessing you will need wiring diagrams and test the circuit to find the culprit, bcm is possible however we have never seen this fault before. If you don’t want to test wiring or pay someone to test wiring then start with cheapest option probably a second hand radio. Many thanks MG

I have tested for resistance at the FRM and also wired a known resistor in place. weirdly I get mV at the senders but one still reads and gives half tank level only (expected) not sure if my issue is gauge or BCM? any help will be much appreciated
Matthew Moore last time I had this it was water ingress in the junction box/fuse board lower plug corroded up, give it a check.
Thanks for the video. I have an R52. For a few months I have an error message displayed, "EP", Emergency Program, for the automatic shifting, instead of the current gear.
Someone suggested it could be caused by faulty/wet BCU. What do you think?
Firstly you need have the car battery tested it can still read 12+ volts and be faulty if there is a bad cell, I would recommend replacing the battery regardless if it is the original BMW unit. Then have the fault memory reset and transmission adaptations reset. You may find this fixes the problem. Please like and subscribe if this helps

BelRiose2000 , yes unfortunately you could try and disconnect the battery for half an hour and re connect but failing that you’ll need a shop with the correct diagnostic equipment to reset either a specialist or main dealer unfortunately
My head lights dont turn on and my turn signals dont work. However, my hazards work fine and my high beams turn on when held in position. I have replaced the signal stack but the same thing happens. Do you think it is a Body control module?

Think mine is faulty, 2008 Mini Cooper s convertible, the computer screen keeps going on and off and the wipers go on without touching arm lever, also trouble staring sometimes, when it doesn’t start well the dcu light is highlighted, TIA
It sounds like a faulty BCM but it’s unlikely the trouble starting is the same problem that will be a separate issue more than likely

Yes all body related items run though the BCU it’s most likely the cause of your problem but shorting wires and switches shouldn’t be ruled out. You plug a second hand replacement BCU in and see if that cures your fault or alternatively have an auto electrician confirm it for you

Yes I would imagine that’s the BCU very common problem when they start to fail.
Hello, I bought a 2006 Mini Cooper Convertible at a blind online auction. The car is completely dead. Fully charged battery, and the only response is when I turn the key all the way to start and the accessory lights come on for a second and will stay on as long as I hold the key in the start position. I replaced the fuse interior panel and exterior panel. I replaced the ignition switch too, and still the same problem. All the fuses are good, but only half the fuse box works. Please help.
portugeepride possibly a faulty junction box which is basically the fuse board, before going any further I would be carrying out wiring checks if your not confident doing this pay an auto electrician to diagnose it for you first it will be worth paying £100 or so.. it’s not a common fault and I would be shocked if BCU is at fault with this problem.

Hi there, after some advice please. I have the ABS, flat tyre, traction control and handbrake light on and the speedo comes on and off sporadically. When the speedo works the lights go off when I have the foot brake on. I have replaced all of the ABS sensors but no joy. Could the BCM be the cause.

Ray Thomas no I wouldn’t have the BCM is the problem here, neither is the instrument cluster it’s usually a broken wire behind the dash that’s dragging the coms line down to the instruments (speedo) if your not confident doing this have an auto-electrician test the wiring.

Hi. We have an R50 that is telling us that there is a problem with the head airbag right. We don't have one so how do we fix something that we haven't got? Any advice would be great.
Hmm difficult one you either need to do what I did on this video use a resistance tester then fit a resistor to remove the warning light I’m not sure what ohm resistor you will need for a curtain airbag, easiest way would be to buy a second hand airbag and swap it they won’t be expensive and doesn’t need coding in. @@theminigurus4299 There has never been a certain bag fitted so why would I buy one? I would not know where to plug it in. I do have a 2.2 resistor and can fool the system with it but I have nowhere to put it as I've never had a head air bag. It's my problem. rear wiper problem randomly starts to work when switched off
Hi I have an issue on a 2003 R50.
The sidelights and interior lights stay on when switched off and keys out and as a cosiquence the battery drains over night.
Is this likely to be a fix on the bcu, replacement or can it be fixed with a code reader?

simongunner I’m 99% sure that’s BCU buy a used BCU and plug it in to make sure the lights go out before having it coded.
