It's crazy how far we have gone with these Sonic movies. I remember like it was yesterday when Paramount dropped that Ugly Sonic trailer for the first movie and everyone went nuts with it so the studio delayed the first movie for 3 months just to redesign it 😂
I'm seeing the movie tomorrow. I bought my ticket a few weeks ago. I absolutely can't wait! I have to admit, at the time when I saw Sonic 2, I didn't have as much knowledge of Sonic and the various mediums and versions of his universe as I do now. But after going back and relearning Shadow's backstory and history all over again, words can not describe how excited I was. Shadow is without a doubt, my absolute favorite character in the Sonic series, and hearing that Keanu was doing the voice, to actually hearing him in the promotional material we got for this movie, I was sold by the first trailer. Then Trailer 2 came out, and it looked like they were taking more cues from Sonic Adventure 2's story than I think most of us thought. From everything I heard, I'm just not ready for the final act and those two post-credit scenes.I'm more hyped for a movie than I've been in a while, lets fucking go!
Zach missed the chance to get the ugly sonic Christmas sweater and wear it for this review. Would’ve tied the whole thing together 😂 But the Christmas sweater he’s wearing is still baller as hell.
Can't wait to see it be yet another overrated sonic project with nothing but a generic old story with cringey just humor and cheesy dialogue. They don't even try and yet people still try to eat it all up.
@ZachPopeReviews But its enjoyed by people of all ages is the thing. And what's worse is the same people who praise these films blindly ignore their flaws but try to whine about other kids films and whatnot for every little thing these days. It's hypocritical.
@movielover7565 No, it is not. I get what you mean about the cringy humor and cheesy dialogue. In most movies (especially superhero movies), I hate that more than words can possibly describe. But the difference here, and what makes Sonic a unique beast among media icons and game franchises, is its unique ability to authentically work just as well in a cheesy and cartoony context as in a more serious and epic context. In a case like Sonic, where both formulas have proven potential to work equally well (with the right execution), being more forgiving of things like the stupid comedy (than I am, for instance, in the case of big superhero movies) is entirely justified. I have SEEN Sonic work as cheesy, and I have also SEEN it work well as more ambitious and epic. There's nothing hypocritical about that. What sets superhero movies on a higher level where such things come off as rank and unacceptable is that superheroes are more ambitious characters with more ambitious and grounded potential. For that reason, superhero movies are only ever worth anything when the cheesiness and silliness ARE toned down for the sake of telling sincere, ambitious stories WITHOUT irreverence or self-awareness. That's why the MCU is an abomination to me. It's not like Sonic. This same thing cannot be said of Sonic, because at the end of the day, Sonic is inherently cartoony enough to warrant juvenile silliness, all while being just cool enough to work more seriously, too. For something like Sonic, both formulas have their place.
“Ive spent 50 years reliving what they did to me. I WANT REVENGE.”
