Let me help you out Adam chance or chance so we don’t get confused: baritone and was the one doing the Jaw-harp (left back) Adam rupp: beat boxer (right back) Austin brown: high tenor (middle front) Rob Lundquist: low tenor (left front) Tim Foust: bass (right front) This is one of my favorite covers of theirs and Adams best box solos are really awesome and you need to check it our Great video😄
I love that you don't hesitate to say " Yeah, I have no idea how that's done, but I like it. " That's awesome. There are a lot of things to like about your videos, for that matter. Your break downs of what the beatboxer is doing, your discussion about technique, your thoughts on WHY they chose to do it the way they did...all of that. Oh, and that there are times when it seems like you can't help but follow along, even if it's so quiet we can't hear you, is really cool. For me, it shows that you're really liking what you're hearing and truly enjoy the craft of beatboxing. Thank you Xureck. Another great video. Oh! And tell your friend I loved seeing her reaction, too. That was fun.
There is a live version of 9 to 5 on youtube where they all beatbox (a bit... building a beat.) Austin (high tenor red head) does harmony harmonica when they do it live. He also does the "strings, guitair and violin" in some of their songs like "Do You Hear What I Hear." Chance (the one who did vocal jaw harp) also does "banjo" Tim does "bass guitar" and "electric bass." Very very talented group.
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. It's this one. It's old, but a lot of fun! Home Free - 9 to 5 + Beatboxing Breakdown, October 27, 2015 - th-cam.com/video/vHYgW0f3sKE/w-d-xo.html
Love how you are showing us what is going on. Huge Home Free fan here. The combined talent of the group is exceptional. Rob (beard and glasses) can whistle beautifully too.
I never knew that was such a talent. Ive always been able to whistle as have most people in my family and friends. Until TH-cam, I never knew how many struggled with it.
@@thomasarussellsr Yes, whistling on key is an exceptional talent! I've only ever met one person that could do it. Most of the time he didn't even know he was doing it. He whistled to himself like others sing to themselves.
@@ShyAnn291 like I said, I never knew groing up that it was such an unusual thing. Guess I was in an unusual situation. I hung out with groups in school and church that were musically inclined and never really knew if any of us couldn't whistle. Guess it was just so conmon in our group that if there were those who could not, they hid it well.
I've seen many Home Free reactions (vocal coaches, etc) and I really enjoyed hearing the perspective of a talented beat boxer. Great Job!! Their cover of Mayday would be a good next one for you. Muy gracias
So many reaction videos are similar, but to have their beatboxes analyzed is so interesting as Reck is listening in such a different way than I do and I love how well he explains what he is hearing.
Chance (the guy in the back with the vest) does that opening sound. It's called a jaw harp. Adam Rupp (the beatboxer) plays many (real) instruments. He majored in Trumpet and he plays a great bass guitar, He plays some drums and just about any instrument. In his church band, he was the guy they went to when any of the other players couldn't play. I'm sure it all helps him with his beatboxing skills. What always impresses me about Adam is how realistic his drums, harmonica, etc. sound. All of the home free guys can beatbox a little.
@@abbyzee2531 In my experience people who called it a jaw harp did't know it's main name is Jew's harp, let alone any of it's other names. Ha! It's also called a trump. LOL
Thanks for the reaction! Just subscribed. The harmonica Adam does here, when they do it live on stage it's even more incredible because Austin (singing the lead here in MOCS, he goes back and stands with the beat boxer, Adam, and they do a harmonizing duet of harmonicas. It's incredible! Am sure others suggested you watch one of Adam Rupp's live drum solos he does about 7-9 mins alone in every live show. They are mind-blowing!! Take care, thanks.
Yeah, this group is all vocal, no instruments at all, I've seen him doing the harmonica sound live on stage from the front row. It's pretty perfect. They do use a looper with this song onstage though to overlap the vocals.
Can't stop the feeling ...their cover and wow beat boxing by everyone. Please try to have a listen. This is great and a good one for round two. So nice to have insight with this art that I am fascinated with .
WOW this was REALLY cool! It's so fun to see a fellow talent breaking down and giving further understanding to those of us who have no idea how this stuff is done. AWESOME video! You two are SUPER talented!!!

During their live shows they do a bit that proves that ALL of them can beat box some. It's pretty amazing when all 5 of them go at it. Find them doing 9 to 5 live here on youtube.
Hello Reck! Since you’re so good at bass techniques, I think you’d be interested in some vocal range videos of A Cappella *bass* singers like Tim Foust, Geoff Gastellucci and Avi Kaplan. Highly recommend *Geoff Gastellucci’s* vocal range videos because he’s also extremely dope at your bass technique. Please check it out!
I have seen this performed live and it was Amazing. !!! Thanks so much for analyzing the sounds they group of guys can produce. I am a huge Home Free fan !!!

Also, another you might enjoy is their live version at their show of 9 to 5 where they all five do incredible beat boxing and other sounds for several minutes in the middle. Look it up and you'll love it!
Cool breakdown analysis. Loved it! A few of my fav HF videos with cool beatboxing is Flowers on the Wall, Meet In The Middle, & Do You Hear What I Hear (which Adam arranged). For the group, Adam pretty much limits himself to just vocal percussion, but he keeps it pretty interesting & impressive. He's like an entire drum kit! Way too many people have argued with HF that they use instruments becuz of Adam & Tim. His solos are when he can let go & have fun.
Yo...... You just taught me how to do the kick thing with the breathing in and....... 0_0 you should teach us how to beatbox!! Your videos are amazing and I love how you reenact what you're reacting to. It's mind-blowing :D
Actually, the effect Chance was doing is called the jaw harp. When they do this song live, Austin, who is singing lead, will join the beat-boxer doing harmonicas in harmony. If you want to see another example of multiple members doing effects watch their "Butts Remix".
In a live version of this song the harmonica solo is extended and Austin, the main singer, joins in for a duet. The mouth harp is done, in this case, by using a low chest voice note, overtone, and shaping with the mouth. Or that's what I do anyway.
When they sing this live, the lead singer for this song (Austin-red hair) does the harmonica with Adam. If you want to see it, I have it posted on here from the concert I attended. They use a looper when singing live... besides the fact some of the sounds are layered, the jaw harp Chance is doing is difficult to sustain for extended periods as it can be painful.
also..i would enjoy hearing you do the beats on a full song...you seem well educated in the skill and the way the sounds are made with the human mouth...Gracias from south central Alabama
Loved your reaction and your explanations... it's great to hear the technical side behind the beatboxing and sound effects! Yeah, that "juice harp (or jaw harp, depending on musical upbringing)" was so spot on, as was the harmonica. I love this group as much as Pentatonix. It just a different genre, for the most part. It's Country vs Pop, but both so powerful with just 5 members bringing so many talents.
