      LMAO, that's exactly what I was thinking. "Just an example?!?" Maybe it doesn't feel hard to him anymore, since he's probably trained for so long to do it, it's no longer a feat. But that "example" was insanely good - especially since he has a considerable bass he included in that. "Just an example." LMFAO I almost spit up my drink when he said that LOL

    its great to get a beat-boxer reacts on a Pentatonix video.there have been lots of vocal coaches talking about the other 4 members but they cant really talk about Kevin because they don't know about the art of beat-boxing. its a really good insight into how he does what he does.

    • @gianlucaranucci_
      @gianlucaranucci_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tecnique known as "subharmonic register" or "subharmonic singing" is actually made with M0 mechanism, so with vocal fry. In pulse register, the vocal folds are close but loose, and this lets the air popping through them. But there's another difference with modal voice, that is the vibration cycle: in M1 mechanism, the chords vibrate with a periodic cycle, while in vocal fry they touch each other twice and then they take a short recess; so, they vibrate with an aperiodic cycle. When this aperiodic behaviour become constantly accurate, the chords will produce two notes at the same time: a fundamental and a subharmonic (one octave lower than the first note). This two notes are compatible, and so their overtones add togheter, creating a fundamental with a very clear sound. A recent study has shown than in subharmonic singing the folds don't actually vibrate at different frequencies but with this constantly accurate aperiodic cycle. So, subharmonic singing is just a very accurate vocal fry. For this reason, I prefer calling it "strohbass", also to differentiate it from kargyraa, that is a subharmonic singing tecnique too where the vocal folds vibrate togheter with the false chords. So, I just wanted to tell you that Reck was right when he called it vocal fry.

    In your examples it sounds like you're doing subharmonics rather then vocal fry. It's a technique that basically mixes your voice and vocal fry together to get this cool sounding low note and it's a lot bigger and louder then vocal fry alone. Essentially you sing a note and the subharmonics will bring the note down an octave. When you do this technique if you listen carefully you can hear the original note hiding within the subharmonic note

    I highly recommend you to listen to a capella group Home free. These guys are amazing. Many people says that their beatboxer Adam Rupp is one of the best. And their bass Tim Foust is the best. I want to recommend you to listen to Ring of Fire by Home free ft. Avi Kaplan from PTX. The lowest note is Tim's work.

    Can you do Home Free? You will love Tim Foust vocal fry and growl. Tim also has a 5 octave range. Adam Rupp, their beat boxer, is amazing vocal percussionist.
    Where to start... maybe "Do You Hear What I hear" or "Can't Stop the Feeling."
    Adam Rupp also does a solo every show (look for one of his recent ones.) He was recently featured in a drumming magazine AS a vocal percussionist!

    Dude you sound so good! Good for you of a man! Pursue your passion because you got the skill! Thank you for analyzing what Kevin is doing because I'm a huge Pentatonix fan but I've NEVER heard any breakdown of Kevin and what HE is actually doing! We have people analyze the three main singers but since we don't know about drums and the Art of Beatboxing we're left with what we know and that is that Kevin sounds so freaking amazing and he's so talented! I really appreciate the spin you are bringing because I want to learn about what Kevin is doing instead of just sitting here with my jaw hanging open like an idiot. I'm going to make a request in a separate comment so it's easier to like or not like for people that read it.
    on a side note, the absolute love of my life is a classic rock drummer and I appreciate a good drummer. Hearing your personal story about having begun as a drummer and then discovering that your passion lies in beatboxing was really neat to hear! Thank you for sharing that & keep it up because you sound great!
