Very interesting. My Sinclair (St Clair). Family lived in Edinburgh for many centuries and my Crawford ancestors would visit often. I’ve never seen it so I enjoyed this
Steve Crawford , Roslin Chapel in on the Penicuik Road leaving Edinburgh. This is owned by the St. Clair Family for centuries. There is the Roslin Castle mostly a ruin with partial living area in Roslin Glen near to the Chapel A strong connection with Freemasonry. There are stories that the Holy Grail is buried here. Brought back by the Knights ? If you ever visit Edinburgh this should be No1 on your list to visit.👍 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
Juliette De Maso thanks so much Juliette, I find music choice really difficult and it takes a long time to find songs I think will work. So I’m really glad that you like them 😊
Shaun ~ Yes Yes Yes This is wonderful you walking around showing us the sites. Even seeing where you grew up. It's like a private tour with us all having a front row seat. I love the walk under the old tall bridge right in Edinburgh. Do they have special parking so folks can go down and walk that beautiful path? Love the old mill area with all the stone houses. Takes you back in time. Thank you for another great trip wondering through Scotland.
Shaun, thanks for this video! We will be in Edinburgh celebrating my fathers 75th birthday in August, and will at the minimum explore and walk through Dean Village, it looks very cool!
Drone shots are IT! Yee Haw, what a full 8 second ride they are!! Shaun, that you take the time to narrate many of the stories behind where you are/go is, in MHO, a large part of why some many people sub and continue to view and like your channel. No matter if I am sitting in the middle of the Great State of Texas, or on a flight to some place, I feel as if I am on a exclusive tour with a well informed driver! Thank you, Koni B.
Any one can google for pictures of Scotland. But to see Scotland thru the eyes of someone that loves the land and to see their relationship to the land..........that is what makes this video so special. Thank you for sharing.
The Battle Gun is the gun and harpoon from a whaling ship.Chrstian Salveson company based in Leith was at one time the biggest whaling fleet in the World, and one of their ships brought penguins back from South Georgia to Edinburgh Zoo.
Very Beautiful Historical city!!! It is always nice to see places not normally shown. I really enjoyed the shot of the Duckies. Keep having a blast my friend!!!
It was so nice to watch the video with familiar places. I studied in Edinburgh for a year and instantly wanna go back. Lived in Newhaven and was not that far from where you were....Thanks for that nice reminder of how beautiful it is!!:)
Everywhere you take us in your beautiful country is breathtaking. Good call, Brenda Baker! Maybe you can call this series "The Patreon Series" And each episode in the series can be named after the Patron who suggested the particular adventure. Great post today, Shaun. The "Brenda Baker Episode" was stunning!
Your home is beautiful! The modern buildings blend well with the old , who ever thought of doing that was smart.. Here where I live ( I feel) they are to quick to tear down and replace . Your videos are a nice escape.
I fell in love with Scotland when I visited two years ago. Edinburgh is an amazing place. I can’t wait to return and watching you makes it feel a bit closer.
When my husband and I were at University of Edinburgh in the early to mid 90s, we lived a block away from the Cammo Estate. We used to wander all over it with our landlord and his wife. There was a ruin of a walled garden and elsewhere a ruined house and some monkey trees and all we knew about the land was that it had been in a single family for 1000 years before it was given to the city. I'd love to see that again and know more about it as well. I just went over to Patreon and added you to my list and copied this out over there. Terrific video!
When I worked in Chesser House, Ford's Road was often my little bolthole for eating my packed lunch. Where you passed under the bridge carrying Great Junction Street was where Junction Bridge railway station stood from 1869 to 1947. The Water of Leith was once navigable as far up as Bowling Green Street. Sandport Street bridge used to have a lifting section in the middle of it. The thing you thought was a "battle gun" is actually a whaling harpoon gun. And the blue bridge you crossed over is the Victoria Swing Bridge. Great video, Shaun. As you say you would never guess it was in the middle of Edinburgh. An American friend of mine once came to visit and on her first evening I took her down the Dene Path to go to dinner in Stockbridge. She was astonished anything so rural could be in the centre of a city. I've always fancied cycling the Water of Leith Walkway from Harperigg to the docks. You may have just galvanised me to do so.
Thank you Shaun for giving me a look at the place my ancestors came from it means a lot to me I love the nature it's beautiful I live in Florida born here and love nature I'm a big fisherman absolutely love it maybe I can visit there one day and maybe one time if your in Florida I can take you fishing.
Hi Shaun, what a beautiful place your Scotland is. I would have to say my favorite place on this video is where the really expensive old apartments are. I love the old buildings, so beautiful. I did notice when you quickly showed the gun, and said it was some kind of war gun, I don't think it's that kind of gun. Of course it was only shown a few seconds, but I believe it might be a harpoon gun for whaling. The tip looked like the tip of a harpoon. I love the character of the buildings, each is so unique; not all cookie-cutter, like we have here in the States. Keep the videos coming, they're fun to watch.
That. Was. Brilliant! Thank you, Shaun and BRENDA for the suggestion! I don't much get a chance to visit that end of the city but will make a point this August! I have visited Masonic Lodge Water of Leith No. 1267 and hope to be able to show you their commemorative coin. Cheers!
Absolutely Stunning. What A Treasure Shaun. I wish that I was nearly as accomplished as you in showing Tucson and Arizona's gorgeous sights, people and culture. Thank You Shaun! Best To You And Yours!
This was a really beautiful walk along the waterway. Thank you for this video it really shows off Edinburgh in a different way. Great job! I really must visit!!!
We visited the yacht a few days ago. Loved it. After visiting Edinburgh, I’ve figured out we could have spent our whole holiday there. Great City!!! Looking forward the returning.
Thank you sooooo much for this! You've given a little bit of history; showed some of the interesting points; and made me even more hungry for another trip to Edinburgh! Keep up the good work and thanks again.
Oh Shaun, that was wonderful! All that beauty right next to the city! Of course Edinburgh is beautiful also! The old buildings and the greenery make for stunning views! Scotland feels like home to me, though I've never been there. Perhaps in a previous life! Much gratitude for touring Scotland for us! My heart is full and I want to see more! I've been watching some of your older videos, just to keep me satiated. Must be the Droughtlander getting to me! What kind of fish did you catch in the river there? Thank you a million times! Blessings to you and Teka💜
3:15, are those the famous Scottish Terriers? 16:40 That is a whaling harpoon cannon. That was a nice little day trip, Shaun, thank you. It seems that as you show us more about your homeland, you learn a lot yourself. That is a good thing.
Shaun, that's a fantastic presention Pal. It also brought back many memories for me; I used to work in a wee engineering firm in the Dean Village, Miller Row, way back in the late 80's. When I worked there it was said that one of the Proclaimers (Craig, I think) lived in the old Mill that was converted into flats. Keep up the good work!
I wanted to visit Leith when I was in Edinburgh but some friends from Glasgow said it was no big deal. After seeing this, I wish I’d gone! Thanks Shaun. My granddad was from Dunfermline and I did get to the Abbey, but I wish I’d gotten to explore the city more!
The Boats at the end, on The Shore area were brought in during the renovation of the area. The white one was a restaurant, although the guy who owned it done a runner (something to do with tax I'm lead to believe). The others, to be used as trendy office lets. Also, the blue gun is a remnant of the whale ships that used to operate from Leith docks many, many years ago.
It's aways away, but my Dad's family lived in Rothe on Spey, south south-east of Elgin before immigrating to the US. That area, I believe, is called Speyside.
What a peaceful beautiful place to grow up what a lucky guy you are🤗and I love the music you play 👍🏼 I’d like to see what the inside of those cute houses look like🙆🏼♀️I’m from Fort Worth texas
Thank you Shaun for posting this. I visited Edinburgh once in 2015 for the first time. I absolutely loved the city. I've wanted so bad to take a picture with the kilt, I couldn't find a place where they let you just dress traditionally for pics only. I'm pretty sure there are. I'd love to come back.
This was wonderful! I was in Edinburgh in 2019 for the first time. My hotel (The Bonham) looked down on those most amazing old buildings, which of course, astounded me! So I walked down the hill into the midst of them like you did in this walk. Then walked along the path of Leith.
loved this video and footage. couldn't wait to look at everything!! pls show us more shaun. viking coast.ainwick castle.king arthurs seat.any scottish pubs.brewerys.underground vaults in edinburgh.
No.100 today I love the area of Leith, my favorite place to stay in Edinburgh, walks along the canal, straight out to the docklands & the harbor ...the 4th part of the Leith is fab! I had my first ever Edinburgh picnic lunch, on that old drawbridge! 😄 Leith, also has great view of Arthur's Seat and Edinburgh Castle 😉💙 How about: Shaun's Making Memories: then and now
Ah, this brings back memories! I lived in Edinburgh in the 1990's, and during that time I walked the entire Water of Leith, all the way from Leith to Balerno (not in one session, though ! ) My favourite part was the bit that goes through Colinton Dell - I actually walked that part many times.
I haven't made to Scotland yet but it has been on my to-do list for awhile. Thanks for sharing this lovely bit of Edinburgh. I already wanted to visit the city and now I have another good reason!
Weird seeing Stenhouse on video. I also grew up in that area. A friend of mine lost his shoe at the waterfall near ballgreen gardens. I had to give him a piggyback all the way back to his house. Good times.
I took holiday in Edinburgh just a couple of years ago and I can't believe I missed out on some of these locations. Thank you for your work on this, next visit I'm hitting up some of what you've shown us!
Enjoyed this so much! Thank you Shaun. Beautiful photography. Have recently discovered your channel and love it. My ex’s family left Scotland in 1928 and came to Canada from Leith Edinburgh so it was lovely for me to learn a bit of the history of the place.
Hi I’m at the gyle now but grew up in Baberton so was always up at the water of Leith in juniper green. I loved it up there and still go up to poets glen . Good easy going video have subbed😁
Pure class, as always! Ow and just so you know how much I enjoy your vlogs, I was watching Star Trek: Into the Darkness when the notification came on, and I paused it to watch this! LMAO I know it don't sound like much to some, but it's huge trust me 😂😂😂😂

Thanks for a wonderful video Shawn! We stayed in the Village of Dean for our last two nights in Scotland and it was an amazing location!! It was great to relive some of our experiences as you were walking around!
Shaun, we have just watched your Barries tours and we’re thinking perhaps you could come and film Dumfries and Galloway. We live here, but can’t always get out....love your tours of Scotland particularly. Thanks.
Thank you for taking us along on this journey. The queen's ship that you mentioned permanently moored reminds me of the Queen Mary that is permanently moored in Long Beach California.
Md90 check out the origin of some of Texas's major city's names ..they are Scottish in origin.. Dallas, and Houston two small towns in Scotland.. Just to get you started..
Maybe you could be a descendant from a Cuthbert Grant who went to Canada away back in time, he was born in Leith, i am sure the name Turcotte is part of his descendants , there is a rose named after him.
Its all so breathtaking beautiful
Thank you for taking me on this journey Shaun.

Really enjoyed your tour of the River Leith, Shaun. Great filming.
What an awesome tour of the Leith River, definitely have to see the nature and green sites when/if I go to Scotland in the future!
Thank you for taking us along on this journey. The queen's ship that you mentioned permanently moored reminds me of the Queen Mary that is permanently moored in Long Beach California.
Both built in the same shipyard.
