“Violet, blue, green, red” are the colors that are associated with the different stages of a healing bruise. Cinnamon girl never fails to make me cry 😭
I think she just referecing it to the actual pills. Drugs can come in colorful pills. the person she talking about is on medication/drugs to cope with emotional pain. It's like self medication to escape reality. that's why she says after "to keep me at arm lengh dont work" => even if the person is emotionally distant, it doesnt work, cause Lana want to be present for this person no matter what.
@@lounyx2902it could be both, but I think the bruise connotation is the primary one due to the specific order. Bruises heal and transition through those colours in that order
Dealer!! She literally SCREAMS her verses in the song, it’s amazing, nothing like what we’ve heard from her up to that point. Its off the blue banisters album!
Yeah, tht would be a song Mere could use to discover the positive anger of Lana, but I don't think it would be very interesting, as long as there's not much to interpretation
Oh god If you want angry Lana -in my feelings -Black bathing suit -dealer -high by the beach -NFR (but that one is more like making fun of a man, not being mad at one. I also recommend listening to the alternative version snippet called “bird world” with Jack Antonoff is beyond amazing)
Cinnamon is a motif on Lana songs. Since Born to Die she talks about how life is sweet like cinnamon, even on Did You Know's Candy Necklace, she talks about cinnamon. For >me
dealer is DEFINITELY the angry song youre looking for, she drags the shit out of the guy, and she literally screams at him “why cant you be good for something?” in my feelings is also very angry and empowering tbh
So beautiful, especially in context. The line “ my father’s love was always strong, my mothers glamour lives in and on” is so interesting after hearing more about her family
Velvet Crowbar and Noir are unreleased songs with a more angry tone. Also, In My Feelings, High by the Beach (w/ the music video) and Dealer. Thank you for doing these reactions I love them so much!
Your facial expressions absolutely make this 😂 I have breakdowns to Lana songs. It's great watching someone else go through the same range of emotions.
she doesn’t really have angry songs, but if you want some about her taking power back after unfortunate relationships i’d check out more from the blue banisters album especially ‘thunder’ and ‘violets for roses’
I wish Lana, the brilliant writer and poet that she is, would have an official lyric sheet. Yes, it's "teeth", not "tea"😬. Perfect timing. I'm about to start an essay on a painting of a blue seascape. My introduction starts with Lana and the NFR album cover.
@@cutiecrybabyy Ah!😊 I'm still a newbie, so haven't bought much vinyl/CDs yet (I did get the Ocean Blvd green vinyl, but haven't opened it because I have nothing to play it on!). I gather the word "mother" isn't blurred out on "Fingertips" on the vinyl/CD.
As a long time Lana fan, I love watching other people react to her and see what it’s like for different people to listen to her for the first time, how they feel about it, what they take from it. But it’s hard to find reactions as good as Mere’s. They’re truly in depth and focus on the lyrical content- what the songs actually MEAN, rather than just bopping to the beat and calling it that
if you want to hear lana getting angry i would recommend: Dealer (especially) and In My Feelings. she is pisssssssed in those. Violets for Roses and Thunder counts too
yeah, I noticed these lyric videos have got a few lyrics wrong 😭, thé bridge on blackest day is annoying to me that she reacted to cause they got it wrong :(
she should check lyrics from Genius when reacting to songs!! they are definitely more accurate than the lyrics on some youtube videos that may confuse the whole meaning of a song with just one word, specially when it comes to Lana and her lyricism tbh
Okay, I have a couple thoughts on this song. The first one is that this is Lana at her best…Vulnerable, heartbreaking lyrics set to an almost dreamlike beat. It gets me every time! Another observation I’d like to make is that the song lyrics focus so much on her lover’s addiction to cocaine and pills that it far overshadows HER addiction to HER LOVER, right? The title even hints at this: Cinnamon Girl…Not because SHE is addicted to illicit drugs, but because she is the “girl,” or the romantic partner to the one who is being overcome by his/her addiction to cocaine and pills. The fact that she, too, is obviously suffering from a problem with addiction, which is her addiction to this person, as well as her extreme codependence on this person. It just goes to show that addiction has many “faces” and can take many forms.
Lana and Jack said in an instagram video (I think) and Jack mentioned that when they wrote this song, Lana had just came back from New York and she was pissed about something (they didn’t say what) and she was in a darker head space with this song
Here are a bunch of angry songs by Lana: Dealer (I’m not sure of what the song talks about, all though she decently was angry while making it), Cruel world (the relationship is over, so now she’s looking back and she’s pointing out the man’s flaws and other things), Velvet crowbar [unreleased] (she talks about how frustrated and angry the fact that her loved one doesn’t care of her / doesn’t support he4 make her), Cherry (it’s pretty much a mix of sadness and frustration with a much more vibrant sound than her usual), Fuck3d my way up to the top (from what I heard this should be a song where she appears to be angry at someone), In my feelings (once you listen to it it’s self explanatory), Noir [unreleased] and in the end Video games, which shows disappointment and devotion rather than anger I WOULD RECOMMEND: DEALER, CRUEL WORLD, VELVET CROWBAR, IN MY FEELINGS AND NOIR
Maybe you could trace her grow from Born to Die until Ocean Blvd? Like listening chronologically would make it clear. Like I know for a fact she is happier since chemtrails and more personal and at ease with her issues.
I really love watching this videos. I think it is nice to have the perspective of someone else listening to certain song and be open to understand other meanings of the song if that makes sense Lana is a brilliant songwriter. Marina and the diamonds (now called MARINA) is also a singer/ songwriter whose lyrics absolutely blow my mind sometimes. I would really love to see you analyze one of her songs. Some ideas are "Ancient dreams in a modern land" "I’m a ruin" "Primadonna" or "Froot" Congrats on everything ❤❤❤
If you are looking for a song where she gets a little angry about the situation (like you said) then I would recommend ‘Norman F*cking Rockwell’ (the song - the title track from the album)!
React to In My Feelings/Dealer/Norman Rockwell next! Lana definitely can get a little more aggressive. Your little frustration at the end was so cute haha
Yes! There are so many topics on these records that Lana had never really addressed before. Her writing is also next level on these, w/o a lot of songs about toxic relationships & drugs. There are some, of course, but not as much.
I think "Dealer" shows of some anger and frustration, although, form what I know, the lyrics are rather fictional scenario, the song shows real emotions
i would be really curious to see your reaction to "noir" especially since you said you want angry songs, but i’m afraid it’s too much LMAO (it’s a not released so it’s a bit unusual to the sound etc, but personally i love it!)
So so sooooo sad that here in brazil the membership is so damn expensive, i would love to see your exclusive videos, but anyway i'll be supporting you here

if you want an angry song listen to tired of singing the blues bc she is really ANGRY here. she talks about how she is bored by her life and how everything sucks. i just love
theres a song called "POWDER" by melanie martinez, it's about addiction, but you can see it in many different ways, I think it would be really good for us to analyze

While not explicitly angry, this song carries a sense of frustration.
