- The Athletic took a look at 50 pending free agents across the league and projected their next contract. They did not predict which team these players would sign with, just what their contract could look like in terms of term and AAV. For the Avalanche they had three players on the list. Sean Walker, Jonathan Drouin and Yakov Trenin. Do we agree with the numbers they came up with?
Speaking of Drouin, it's his turn to get his season grade, and we can all guess what range he ended up in.
Finally, an obscure website came up with a fan aggression poll. You might be as shocked as we were as to where Avalanche fans found themselves on the list.

I think with Kiviranta it is about what you want. If you want a spectacular regular season player who scores 100 points, he is instantly out of the door no questions asked.
If you want a solid playoff contributor (value for price), you sign him into a deal, simple as that.
Anything less than an "A" is nonsense. Don't care about the slow start. This is a dude who scored 56 points....on an 800k contract. You don't see that often, and likely won't again for a long time. You expect players making 5 million to be consistent throughout the season, you do not expect that from a vet minimum player. Playing well enough to be in a top 6 position, at vet minimum, is an easy "A" no question. No need to unfairly nitpick the guy

Of COURSE he's going to struggle at first to adapt to the Avs scheme, name someone who hit the ground running here.
But how many get healthy scratched because of it? And that was my point. U have to take that into the grade. He doesn't get a pass just because it's expected in my opinion

@@LockedOnAvalanche I have carefully and expertly blotted out that stretch of 1 point in 10 games and the healthy scratch from my memory. I get to do that. You're not allowed to.
Probably it will end with Drouin like with Erod, someone will offer $3M and the Avs, always on the cheap, will pass. I wonder how MacFarland wants to win another cup when always only getting the cheap ones? One thing is certain for Avs fans: If there will be a top player on the market, don't bother even thinking the Avs might be interested, they are not! They are handcuffed with $13M from Landeskog and the Russian. Look at Florida, that is a depth team.
Drouin is getting market value or very close. And I’d guess he stays. We found the money with Val… he will make at least 5m. Mitts will make around the same. He’s no way making 7. Maybe mitts makes 5.5… No one pays him 7. Drouins first half of season was terrible. Thank god we kept with him. He’s probably worth 7-8m this time next year… so signing him to a 5x5 would be very wise… even 6 isn’t overpaying imo… the progress he’s made in the last 4 months is plain mind blowing. After another full season? No one knows but I’d bet he’s putting up a ppg. There’s a chance he paces near 100. I think he’s got it. I started saying to trade mikko for a top 5 goalie and sign Drouin. Now with geo playing well and Val’s money prob being available? Well we sign Drouin either way. If geo has another crap first half to the season he’s gone. We trade him and some insane picks for a much better goal tender. Hindsight is always clear.. Drouin likely improves much more next year. He’s clearly got the talent and he’s working the system… there’s a damn good chance he continues to improve and follows Val’s progression. Drouin did what Val took 3 years to do. It took him 6 months. Insane

I do hope they bring back Walker and Drouin. I think Jones need as much patience as Drouin I just see he wants to succeed in Colorado.

However, I have ran into a few people who have gone to AVS games, and they unfortunately found those jerk fans in the stands. So yeah, we aren't immune to having "THOSE" fans that can give your franchise a bad name to other people...
