Thanks for doing this I wouldn't have thought there would even be a difference, I've seen these cheaper options and I think I'll go with the nektar, you saved me some cash buddy!
It's not a "tone control" on the side, it's like max and min values for the expression function. Think you should try the Moog one more time and set it to work from 0 to 100. ;)
That switch that you are calling the mode switch is actually the Polarity switch. It swaps the tip and ring on the jack as some brands are designed this way. And the knob on the side is the zero reference knob. Neither of these controls affect the tone.
One of the key points to understand about the expression pedal for the BOSS PS-6 and likely any other BOSS product that can use an expression pedal is the expression pedal must use a TRS cable. (stereo cable) A mono cable will not work. Looking online to review further and the tested expression pedals that worked well are TRS. Which of course the Roland one is. I didn't double check the Moog one since the results weren't very good anyway.
Thanks for the video. There are not many videos out there with expression pedals and the PS-6. I'm wondering if the expression pedal does anything in any of the harmony modes. If so, could you demo that? Thanks!
Hi Tom, Thank you so much for watching my video. And thanks again for the great suggestion. I will definitely make a video on Exp pedal with all other funtionality of PS6. Please subscribe and i will update it very soon
You are correct Jamie, but I made this video for those who have PS6 and looking to buy an expression pedal. This video does not mean that the pedal that is not working with PS6 should not be bought. But they are good for other pedals and instruments.
I bought the nektar for my Valeton multi-effects with whammy function. I never could get the nektar to zero which meant there was always a pitch difference or an offset from natural when the nektar was in the zero position I ended up with the Roland.
On the Moog, you called the potentiometer on the side a "tone control"??? That's a level adjustment. That's why you didn't have play across to pedal throw. It's a fit all expression pedal, but you have to adjust the pedal for the device. I mean, seriously, it can't all be plug and play. You may have to read a 2 page manual before making your video.
if you have the boss FV-500H volume/expression pedal then can you do one the boss FV-500H volume/expression pedal with the boss ps-6 harmonist pedal cause i just bought the boss FV-500H pedal at sam ash but i might buy the boss PS-6 harmonist pedal soon so i can use my boss FV-500h volume/expression pedal
Awww, maaan! I just purchased the Moog EP-3 Universal Polarity Expression Pedal. I wish I saw this before buying. I will be using it for almost all of my Electro-Harmonix guitar pedals that has EXP input on it. Have you tried the Dual Expression pedal of EHX? That was the one I was going to buy but it was out of stock.
Hi Sandaux, Thanks for checking my Video. Yes, I was in a similar situation on buying which expression pedal works better and now wanna let other help to buy the right expression pedal. I have not tried Dual Expression Pedal but will try. If you have recently bought your Expression Pedal, you can always return and exchange I believe. Most Music instrument sellers have a good window to return and exchange items when it's in same excellent condition.
@@tonecraft5386 Thanks! I checked the other written reviews of Moog on Amazon and other websites. Moog is always on top five list. I guess it depends on which pedal will I use the Moog. I don't have the Boss PS6 Harmonist.
@@SandauxBeats, You are correct. Moog EP-3 is also an awesome expression pedal. My demo was just with Boss PS6. Other than that, it's a superb expression pedal. Rock on!!!!!!!!
sounds really great. only thing i seem to notice is that before the expression pedal starts the sweep, you can hear the dry note quite strong and alienated. Maybe its a technique thing where one needs to start the sweep at the exact moment of striking/plucking the note??!?? thanks
what is the use for the knob at the left of the EV-5 and others? I dont understand what you say when you talk about it. You say tone control? What does that mean?
Hi Matrix Modulator, The knob which I mentioned on the side of EV5 is a level adjustment knob, mistakenly I spoke tone knob but it's actually a level adjustment knob. This knob has a knob setting from 0 to 10. When you put in 0 sound starts from its original sound and it will bend the sound depending on how much you press the foot pedal. The more you increase the adjustment level, the starting sound will already get bent to some extent and bend sound depending on how much you press the foot pedal. Just a basic understanding is 0 is the original(Dry) sound and the more you increase, the starting sound gets bent.
Which expression pedal out of these is the most accurate? I’m using a line 6 M5 on the pitch shifting patch with a boss expression pedal and it doesn’t always return the pitch to the exact same point. Very frustrating. Thanks for the video!
Hi Josh, Thank you for the question. My video is about the efficient and effective expression pedal for Boss PS6. My finding is to show in the video that Nektar, Proline, and Roland EV5 are the effective pedal to work with BOSS PS6. but Nektar being the most cost-effective, is an efficient pedal. You can check these pedal tests in the below time stamp link. 1. Nektar Expression Pedal, 0:06 2. On Stage Expression Pedal, 3:06 3. Proline Expression Pedal, 6:56 4. Moog EP-3 Expression Pedal, 9:07 5. Roland EV-5 Expression Pedal, 11:15
I think the best way to use this effect would be if the music is very relaxed, with a chill guitar solo and then suddenly it becomes vert menacing and the pitch of the guitar goes all the way up and makes a sort of X-Files sound.
Hi, Thanks for watching the video, Yes you can adjust to any setting, the Expression pedal is just to move pitch high octave or low octave but in my case, I can adjust the setting through my Boss PS6.
The control on the side of the EP3 is not a "tone knob". You should just have shown the two pedals you like best with your PS6 rather than showing pedals that are not adjusted right and making them seem like they don't work properly.
Thank you Paul for the comment, I really appreciate it. For the tone knob, you are correct, technically, that is a knob for level adjustment. I had tried all these pedals adjusting the knob and had kept in 0, same as I showed for EV5. I had bought OnStage exp pedal initially and never was able to get the correct rise time and fall time adjusting level control knob So I thought of trying a different pedal. All these pedals are really good but for some reason, OnStage and EP3 were not shifting pitch with PS6. If you have any idea why is that happening, please feel free to share your knowledge, I would really appreciate sharing your knowledge.
@@tonecraft5386 I appreciate your response and whilst I am not an expert it seems no surprise that the Roland pedal would work well with the Boss unit, being the same company. It just seemed rather negative and unfair to mention pedals that do not do a specific job. People will watch and get a bad impression of a pedal you don't like that may be perfect for them.
@@PaulMcCaffreyfmac, I understand what you mean, This video is absolutely not intended to downgrade any of the products. It's just an info video in which I struggled to find the effective and efficient expression pedal specifically for BOSS PS6. The two exp pedals which were not working as intended with PS6 are definitely awesome pedals for other stuff. It is just a test done with PS6 to find the best and economic expression pedal.

Thanks man, Today I bought the Nektar pedal and it works really well
I am very happy it worked for you. Nektar is economic and effective pedal. All the best.

for some reason, I love those cheap, plastic expression pedals, like the M-Audio pedal. I haven’t tried the nektar.

I liked the Pro line the best.
Thanks for the comment, Michael. Yes, Pro-Line sounds amazing with the value.
me too
Nektar and Proline look like they are the same thing just rebadge in which case go for the cheaper one.
