As some of the others already mentioned, Jackie didn't use wires for his jumps or Parkour stuff in his movies from the 1970s to like 1996 when he went to America. There weren't many or no safety measures in the old Hong Kong days ("if you've got the guts, you do it" or "rolling, action, jump, cut, hospital"). That's one reason no one wanted to insure him. The whole stunt team used wires in fight scenes though when they wanted to amplify the impact of a punch or kick. It wasn't Wire-Fu like in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or like Jet Li did sometimes, it was just to spice up an otherwise grounded fight.

Jackie Chan trained since a child in the chinese circus or chinese theatre. He definitely had parkour like training before it was common. Him and his crew were absolute masters of Ukemi and that is still a principle in parkour today

District B13 was my facilitator into parkour. All of the shirtless scene with David were real a BTS e plains that he insisted on being shirtless to prove that there were no wires or rig. The only cgi was the ground on the rope dive. They had massive mattresses for the stunt men who were just jumping through.
Here's a video idea: Parkour relay (without batons of course). You could go into 2 teams in a few spots (one could even be water challenges). There'll be an element of strategy where the teams will have to work out which member is better suited at a challenge to complete the relay the fastest. PS: I think Drew arrived last
Accusing Jackie of using wires is defamation. That scene where he's descending from the ferris wheel. It's an extreme wide shot with no crane (hook wires) to be seen. Your parkour is nothing compared to his dangerous stunts. He's a Taurus awards winner. Hanging off a flying helicopter, sliding down a skyscraper, jump on the side of high rises, climbing stories of car parks etc.

Me too, one boring Sunday afternoon in Oct 2016 and my life changed. I like the Tracer movie for how it showed what it was like to see people do PK, watch tutorials on TH-cam and get obsessed 😄
Tracers is actually pretty good and accurate. Storror just took a few scenes out of context or rather snippets of scenes. There are some very good chase and parkour scenes in it. Taylor Lautner's character learns parkour in this film as well so the awkward scenes are him training like for the first time. It's at least 7 out of 10. The crime and bloodshed was unnecessary in that movie. The parkour was legit.
First Parkour-like scene I saw was wayy back in the early 80's in a Knight Rider episode..There was a guy jumping off roofs, flipping over cars & through railings etc. Had a huge affect on my lifestyle as far as being active outdoors etc. Love you guys
Jackie technically trained Parkour Callum, it was just called Peking Opera school in China. Imagine how good you all would be if parkour was legit beat into since childhood. Seriously, imagine getting hit with a switch everytime you miss a stick.
He was trained yes, but not in parkour, it was things like aerobatics, various martial arts, acting etc. Parkour didn't exist back then. Jackie was a very skilled person who pioneered a lot of movements that would eventually be incorporated into a new sport.... Parkour
Jackie is the OG. Most of what he did was real, especially back in the day. It's going a bit far to call it parkour, but his skill is not to be questioned. The wire work came later, and Jackie's wire work was him adapting to the times, rather than needing to "fake" it.
Not purely related and not a film but to this day, one "documentary" that still blow my mind every time I watch it, is this old interview from a French tv channel of David Belle and Sebastien Foucan, The confidence and the power they had was crazy at that time. Jackie Chan has his own stunt team and is a licensed (In Hong Kong) stunt man, has been his entire career. He would deny he does what he does by 'natural talent' - he'd say it was a lifetime of insane hard work and a LOT of injuries because, like you guys, he does most of his stuff for real with real consequences. For clarity - most of his stunts in Hollywood movies are done the way Hollywood insurance companies demand, lots of risk reduction and caution but outside the Hollywood industry Jackie takes risks usually only 'stunt men' take, which is why he has so many more injuries than ANY other leading action star. He plans and trains the sequences for weeks and months ahead with his stunt team WITH protections so that he might have a chance of pulling them off "for real" on camera without protections.
The scene Jackie Chan does from a bridge to a hover boat. He broke his leg and continued to do the movie even with a cast on his foot. They covered the cast with a painted sock to look like a shoe.

But the core of these moves have been around for probably centuries, and on film since the era of silent films that inspired Jackie Chan in the first place. District B13 was my facilitator into parkour. All of the shirtless scene with David were real a BTS e plains that he insisted on being shirtless to prove that there were no wires or rig. The only cgi was the ground on the rope dive. They had massive mattresses for the stunt men who were just jumping through.

Here's a video idea: Parkour relay (without batons of course). You could go into 2 teams in a few spots (one could even be water challenges). There'll be an element of strategy where the teams will have to work out which member is better suited at a challenge to complete the relay the fastest.

Accusing Jackie of using wires is defamation. That scene where he's descending from the ferris wheel. It's an extreme wide shot with no crane (hook wires) to be seen. Your parkour is nothing compared to his dangerous stunts. He's a Taurus awards winner. Hanging off a flying helicopter, sliding down a skyscraper, jump on the side of high rises, climbing stories of car parks etc.
It's so sad to see you rate Tracers as 0/10. That's the movie that got me into parkour >D But being more experienced, I can see why it was scored so low

Me too, one boring Sunday afternoon in Oct 2016 and my life changed.
I like the Tracer movie for how it showed what it was like to see people do PK, watch tutorials on TH-cam and get obsessed 😄
Tracers is actually pretty good and accurate. Storror just took a few scenes out of context or rather snippets of scenes. There are some very good chase and parkour scenes in it. Taylor Lautner's character learns parkour in this film as well so the awkward scenes are him training like for the first time. It's at least 7 out of 10. The crime and bloodshed was unnecessary in that movie. The parkour was legit.
They came off as super entitled.
Ignore the morons, the movies parkour was fine.

First Parkour-like scene I saw was wayy back in the early 80's in a Knight Rider episode..There was a guy jumping off roofs, flipping over cars & through railings etc. Had a huge affect on my lifestyle as far as being active outdoors etc.

Jackie technically trained Parkour Callum, it was just called Peking Opera school in China. Imagine how good you all would be if parkour was legit beat into since childhood. Seriously, imagine getting hit with a switch everytime you miss a stick.
I had heard he was in the Chinese opera. Although quite possibly a “natural” as Storror said, likely also/more EXCEPTIONALLY well trained.
He was trained yes, but not in parkour, it was things like aerobatics, various martial arts, acting etc. Parkour didn't exist back then.
Jackie was a very skilled person who pioneered a lot of movements that would eventually be incorporated into a new sport.... Parkour
Jackie is the OG. Most of what he did was real, especially back in the day. It's going a bit far to call it parkour, but his skill is not to be questioned. The wire work came later, and Jackie's wire work was him adapting to the times, rather than needing to "fake" it.
Not purely related and not a film but to this day, one "documentary" that still blow my mind every time I watch it, is this old interview from a French tv channel of David Belle and Sebastien Foucan, The confidence and the power they had was crazy at that time. Jackie Chan has his own stunt team and is a licensed (In Hong Kong) stunt man, has been his entire career. He would deny he does what he does by 'natural talent' - he'd say it was a lifetime of insane hard work and a LOT of injuries because, like you guys, he does most of his stuff for real with real consequences. For clarity - most of his stunts in Hollywood movies are done the way Hollywood insurance companies demand, lots of risk reduction and caution but outside the Hollywood industry Jackie takes risks usually only 'stunt men' take, which is why he has so many more injuries than ANY other leading action star. He plans and trains the sequences for weeks and months ahead with his stunt team WITH protections so that he might have a chance of pulling them off "for real" on camera without protections.
The scene Jackie Chan does from a bridge to a hover boat. He broke his leg and continued to do the movie even with a cast on his foot. They covered the cast with a painted sock to look like a shoe.

Three minutes in, «only 20 people around the world were training parkour in 2000», no man, some people all around the world were jumping around inspired by Jackie Chan and ninja movies since the late 70’s - as were the yamakazi, it’s just that David Belle coined some terms and connected the moves to a framework of ideas which was novel. But the core of these moves have been around for probably centuries, and on film since the era of silent films that inspired Jackie Chan in the first place.
It is like saying mixed martial arts was invented by the UFC and ignoring the art of 19th century Bartitsu and Bruce Lee
