Les Nubians - Makeda

- Their single single 'Makede' off their Grammy Nominated album Princess Nubiennes.
Lyrics :
ll faut changer I'histoire
- เพลง
Superbe chanson ,qui l'écoute encore en 2024?
My all time favourite. Who is listening in 2023?
And 2024!
Me. Always
2024❤
2024!!!
I remember being 19 years old and seeing this on BET. Time is just flying by. Back when BET used to showcase music from black artists from other countries.
Exactly we had bet j too and vh1 soul had sub soul which did the same thing showcasing indie artists and people from other countries.
That's how I discovered hil st soul ,jazzyfatnastees, grenique, and many other unique souls.
The good ole days
I actually saw this at 19 in college on National Geogrpahic lol then later on BET. Had never heard of them but thought they were beautiful
Actual English translation:
They want us to believe
To lost myths
Passage of history
Falsified and reviewed
From Ramses to Mandela,
Many truths due
Ignoring the start,
We wander aimlessly
Makeda was Queen, beautiful and powerful
Solomon dreamed of her black skin
I sing, to revive memories
Unearthing knowledge
That the time's spiral erases
The Queen of Sheba lives in me
Makeda lives in me
Let's revive our memories
History must be changed
It goes to the drift
At the word's drift no,
Knowledge and wisdom
Are close at hand
Listen and observe ...
Makeda was Queen, beautiful and powerful
Solomon dreamed of her black skin
I sing, to revive memories
Unearthing knowledge
That the time's spiral erases
The Queen of Sheba lives in me
Makeda lives in me
My people dance and sing
Exalting its joy
Far from ignorance, he shows his faith
Rich in men and values
They will fix the errors
Son and daughters, you and me
Ready to fight
Makeda was Queen, beautiful and powerful
Solomon dreamed of her black skin
I sing, to revive memories
Unearthing knowledge
That the time's spiral erases
The Queen of Sheba lives in me
Makeda lives in me

Never understood the lyrics but I could tell this was something special the first time I heard it as a 5 year old on my grandmother's radio out here in South Africa. Been in love ever since, then I took the time to learn the lyrics MY GOD😍
This song transports me back to my late teens early twenties when I worked at Coconuts (Music Store) on 9th Street in the West Village in NYC. Working there exposed me to tons of music and artists that aren’t mainstream and tainted by industry nor fame. Best experience of my life. This being one of those artists. Mind you I don’t speak French but can make you believe I do. 😂
I’m now 45 yrs old and still groove to this. I’m so grateful for that experience. Now let me listen to this song another 10 times before going to bed … lol 💙🙏👋
I am a Nubian and my father speaks Nubian language. My mother speaks Nubian language. I am proud and proud. Because I am from Nubia, we have the greatest civilization in the world.
The Nubian language still exist, I thought it died. Would love to learn a few concepts.

Kiddro22 it's the story of Makeda of Sheba. Queen who Solomon wrote of in the bible stories. Her beautiful skin. How the history is being hidden to erase our culture. Google the lyrics. it mentioned Mandela in the first verse. this is who we truly are. Knowledge of self

I’ve been learning French for 2 years now so upon listening to the song I could understand some of it, but when I translated it. Wow took the song to new heights. As a black woman this song was exactly what I needed ❤️so beautiful
I really just spent $250 on their vinyl discography 3 minutes into the song. It's THAT good ❤ can't believe I had never heard of them. Came across them looking for music like La Fete Selon Kalala. I feel lucky for discovering such good music back to back.
As a huge Herbie Hancock fan I heard the sample for this song on “Suite Revenge” from the score he produced for the movie “Death Wish” from 1974. Very clever sampling👍🏽
still in love with this jam
Makeda (English Dubbed)
They want to make us believe lost myths
The passages of history falsified and revised
From Ramses to Mandela, the truths that were killed
In ignoring the start, they wander aimlessly
Makeda was queen, beautiful and powerful
Solomon dreamed of her black skin
I sing to revive the memories
To dig up the knowledge
That the spiral of time erases
The queen of Sheba lives in me
Makeda lives in me. (Whoa-oh-oh-o x4)
Revive our memories
We must change history
It's going adrift
Adrift in words... no
The knowledge and the wisdom are to be carried in our hands
Listen and observe
Makeda was queen, beautiful and powerful
Solomon dreamed of her black skin
I sing to revive the memories
To dig up the knowledge
That the spiral of time erases
The queen of Sheba lives in me
Makeda lives in me. (Whoa-oh-oh-o x4)
My people dance and sing
They exalt their joy
Far from ignorance
They show their faith
Rich in men and in value
We make up for the mistakes
Sons and daughters you and me
Ready for battle
Makeda was queen, beautiful and powerful
Solomon dreamed of her black skin
I sing to revive the memories
To dig up the knowledge
That the spiral of time erases
The queen of Sheba lives in me
Makeda lives (Whoa-oh-oh-o x4)

@@heiressaffirms no problem! This is an all time great song. That gets even greater once you translate the lyrics. Very deep and meaningful 😌
@@heiressaffirms they were trying to give us the game. Black people have a long history of putting messages through song and dance. So other groups couldn't destroy it. Its on us to know our true history and pass it to the next-generation. Thats why I'm so proud of these sistahs. 💪🏾😎
This still is the VIBE in 2021!!! Thank you mom for keeping real music around the house❤🙏🏽

Haven't heard this in almost 20 years had the album as a teen. Bring back memories of the young girl I use to be finding my individuality, and giving in to what appealed to me not worrying about judgement. I 'm still that way today at 38 feeling more confident and sure of myself than ever before.
Thabo Mokwele played these songs so much that one day he got arrested whilst live on metro fm being accused of being an immigrant when i was still in school i was heartbroken he was a host for a morning drive then. by these i mean he played a lot of African music instead of love all he got was hate and to this day i still listen to him whenever I get the chance i think he's on radio 2000 if not khaya fm, my brother your flowers sir

Still here 2021, South Africa 🇿🇦. What a beautiful song!
Why can't artists nowadays mimic this style?
trientamakdismone Cos that would lead to inspiration and unity. MTV prefers synthetic music with no natural voices or instruments. Dubstep, Folk music and Gangsta rap seems to be the future for mainstream music :P
There are very few artists left with the machine in charge.
@@crusadercrisps Sadly, it's already mainstream and it shows no sign of stopping anytime soon, since people are becoming more moronic by the day!
Answer: zero talent.
bcz a LOT of true artists are suppressed by the machine
no one needs to "mimic this" per se (i know what you mean though) - outside of building quality in their art
this is why we can't let open mic's, live music spots, and underground die - there's so much talent out there
but now we have to go find it
and nowadays artists have to try and go it alone - and build themselves up from the ground self publishing and distributing their work themselves (Nip) - building their own labels just to have a voice
support artists and artistry
It’s funny , despite not knowing French , I’ve always imagined the lyrics were talking about some sort of restoration or healing . I guess it’s because of the feelings the song gives me whenever I listen to it.
This song is talking about an African Queen named Makeda
Am into this song, listening from Kenya. Very cool music
