I BOUGHT The Most EXPENSIVE Truck 6 Months Ago... Then I Neglected It

  • I bought the cheapest 2018 Ford F-250 from CarMax 3 years ago and it's been an amazing truck. So it made sense when I went to buy a new truck it was another F-250. This time a brand new 2022 Ford F-250 Limited that was over $100,000. The goal wasn't to buy a Limited, but there were no Platinums for sale since almost every truck is pre-sold or sells within hours of the dealer listing them these days.

Take all your CDs and rip them down to mp3 files. Put them on a flash drive and plug that flash drive into the truck. That should "replace" your CD player.

Ripped her entire binder of CDs using 3 different USB CD drives. It only took a few hours to rip her entire collection. Uploaded the entire collection to our Google drive so we have remote access to them and also tossed them on an SD card and put it in the head unit. She has complete access to her old collection now.

I work at a Ford dealership, I've driven literally hundreds of these super duties over the past few years with the heavy duty 10-speed (as well as the F-150's and SUV's with the light duty 10-speed) - they all do what you're describing with the downshifting. I blame the computer, it's probably nothing major, just something you'll have to live with.

You don't see older trucks because you live and commute around white collar suburbia my guy. Out here in farm country, it's either old diesels or new gasoline trucks. Why? Because they get the shit beat out of them and nobody has time to deal with emissions shit. Especially now that a delete can't be done with just a sawzall. I personally own a fleet of 3 trucks with 7.3L powerstrokes and have a pallet of spare motors in the back of the shop. I will drive these old trucks until I die. Cheap, reliable, and easy to work on. Can't say that about the new flashy trucks.

ironically 6 months ago i bought a 2001 toyota tundra sr5 with 130k for 2500$. full service history, no leaks, 4 month old tires, interior is like new, was repainted back in june 2022. Only cheap cause someone hit my customer in the rear and smashed the tailgate in(still opens somewhat specially) and drove off, then after my customer got back on i95 and hit someone causing some front end damage. So i gave her an offer and bought it as is and its been pretty perfect! nothing needed so far but a drive belt that wouldnt stop squeaking

I have learned during my oil changes, to take a punch and punch the filter before you remove it, this way it can drain without getting your hand wet at all. I hear you on the 13 quarts lol! I am still on the fence about the def thing. I have heard, mostly bad things, but I guess time will tell. I really like your truck, same color as mine.👍

After owning a 7.3 for 4yrs for the first time I did that trick. I knew abt it but just dealt w it. Service was much cleaner, & my hands weren’t completely covered in oil. Get a little EZ drain valve for ur oil pan, it’s got safety features, & I put a hose clamp on it as an added safety. No more messing with drain plugs, & no more risk of stripping out the pan.

Just a heads up the CP4 will most likely not be covered under warranty if it blows up. They'll try and pull some water in the diesel bs to avoid warrantying it out. Happens to alot of people unless you have an amazing dealership. Best thing to do is swap to a aftermarket unit or get a kit that has filters between the pump and injectors so you don't destroy the injectors too when it blows. Less money to fix out of pocket. It could also never break so its a gamble pretty much.

Based on Ford's Towing guide, they only rate the F250 up to 22,000lbs. The F350 shows 27,000lbs and F450/F550 can hit 37,000lbs depending on the configuration. Not sure where you got 30,000lbs on a F250. Obviously many engines can tow more than the rated, but the vehicle itself isn't heavy enough to stay in control of something very large.

My '19 F150 10-speed tends to get confused when I'm going a constant speed uphill - it goes 1-2-3-(skipping 4)-5- (back down to 4)-5 and then occasionally at the 2nd 5th shift it sounds like someone hit a 5 gallon bucket with a screwdriver (hollow clunk sound). TLDR; Hills confuse it.

Have a 2020 Expedition with a 10 speed and it does the same thing you described. I haven't caught it yet to confirm but I think it's when downshifting from 7th to 5th when braking.

Why do you BUY Def in canisters? In Germany, you can pump Def at every gas station just like your Diesel oil.

As for the trans... Ford, at one point, had a trans that broke a spring somewhere in the valve body and it would slam into gear on occasion. Never did they issue an alert or recall and most dealers didn't know what the deal was. It took a lot of disassembly and investigation. I knew of at least 5 trucks F150-F250 that had that problem in So Cal... Just a thought

Regarding the seats - get some custom heavy duty seat covers, designed for Tradesmen. Don't go with the O'Reilly "customs", go with the proper stuff. Decent detailer should be able to get those marks out too.
Also as my mobile mechanic always says with new vehicles, always replace all the fluids within the first 1000km, as you don't know what the Dealer & their apprentice mechanics may have topped them up with on the lot. Go high quality from the start.

Yes, one can go as long as the dealer insists BUT there are competing concerns, he wants the engine to wear faster and you don't.

$103k for the Platinum!!!! Just curious about pricing on diesel trucks, went to Ford's website. Show some restraint on the option sheet, the F250 XLT/crew cab/4wd/high output diesel version of this truck with all the heavy duty and technology tow pack options is $74,160. That's enough of a difference to buy a bucket list car of mine, a really nice Honda S2000.

I have a 2020 f250 and my battery leaked and was bad under 2 years.. total crap, got a agm one from the auto parts store good now! I didn't want to mess with def or potentially expensive repairs down the road (plan on keeping mine as long as I can) and got the 7.3 gas. I don't drive a ton and pull a camper once or twice a month max and drive short distances the rest of the time so it works great for me. I love that big screen on the newer ones! Mine does that on a downshift too like you described, but rarely, and I have no way to recreate it to take it in.

I think the hard down shift is from it skipping gears. I know on my 2020 F-150 when its in drive and i press the plus button on the shifter it displays the gears and will tell me what gear it is in and have found it skips gears on up shifts and down shifts.
