    That was great, my kind of road!. I head off from West Sussex each summer to the West of Ireland mainly on such roads...'grey lanes' I call them!. The Scrambler sounds great, I was looking at one today with the original exhaust and your V +H single pipe is a massive improvement. Really enjoying your channel and the scrambler's progress! Cheers, Steve

    Hi Farmer, I’m enjoying your vids. Love the roads and scenery, and jealous you’re going into summer. I’m in NZ and we are having our first winter weather. Please tell us a bit more about yourself so we can understand the background to some choices and comments more. For example your decision to trade the speed twin for a scrambler, Your riding history. I’m back riding after nearly 40 years, mainly due to my daughter learning to ride. Thank you

    I enjoyed that..! Right pace, right mood and the perfect way to share that road with others. It's that sort of bike, much more characterful than a GS in that environment and lighter too. Not a fan of that exhaust when the revs rise, though. Too harsh, needs more bass. But what a bike ride..! Lovely. Thank you

      Thanks Stephen, appreciated. Maybe try my Tarmac Trails series, which I hope to develop (new to this game!!!!) Bit more chilled, But Farmer Ramblings will continue to be a feature - on whatever subject and whichever road is travelled - Cheers, Farmer

    Love that sound.
    As to trail braking, that's an interesting topic. I'd think since it's called "trail" it would be the back brake since it would be pretty crazy to brake into off road corners on the front brake.
    OTOH, I've always heard the term referred to when speaking of racers who front brake into a corner right up to the apex.
    I usually don't ride so fast on the straight bits to need front brake, but like you, I find using the rear brake to tighten up decreasing radius corners very effective and fun.

    • @FarmerTorque
      @FarmerTorque  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good to hear your thoughts, I have always enjoyed using the brakes and possibly because of a race background on four wheels, that enthusiasm spills over when I'm out on the bike. The M50's on the front of the XE are superb with loads of 'Feel' nice touch is the ability to adjust the 'feel' of those brakes too. Cheers, Farmer

    Hi farmer - I’m thinking of trading in my Gs 1250 and getting hold of one of these ? Can the scrambler do what the Gs can Do but in style?

    • @FarmerTorque
      @FarmerTorque  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The simple answer no! ie the GS is quicker ,carries more, has better protection - I could go on and on and on.
      However when I had the two side by side I usually grabbed the Scrambler keys....
      The noise, the character and yes style if that's word.
      But you have to be able to live with a naked bike - only you can call that.
      The 1250 GS was the most capable bike I've ever ridden , but don't think I could ever love one.
      The Scrambler 'stirs the soul' so to speak.
      All the best! Farmer

    What a fantastically glorious sound! Agree with you on the pleasure of a normal gear change v quickshifter, the whole point of riding a bike is to master it as smoothly as possible, what is the point of taking that away? So strange seeing you ride the same roads as I do, that sharp bend (at 6 min) with a private drive exit on the inner appex is always a "heart in mouth" for me, I toot just to be on the safe side! I didn't really notice the long travel suspension so much when test riding the XE, but I guess that is because the last two bikes I have owned have been a KTM690SMC and a Ducati Hypermotard so one probably adapts, if I had come straight off a sports bike it would have been more noticeable.
    I dropped into TT to look at the blue bike they have there with the VH 2 into 1 on and it looks even better in the flesh! I reckon it is slightly more tricky to modify the centre pipe than I imagined due to how far out the 2 into 1 unit stands away from the engine, but ultimately it is definitely worth finding a really talented pipe bender/welder to do it, maybe by recycling some of the surplus mid section to keep it all in the same material.
    I am just so jealous of riding that bike on my favourite roads, I can't wait to get my XE. BTW I left my details with TT in case you want to get in touch sometime.

    Agree on the quickshifter thing. It appears to be a good way to destroy a gearchange while riding normally, s'pose I can understand it on a sportsbike but Not for ordinary road use. Do you think it's a trendy thing? " it's the thing to have so I'll put up with it". Emperors new clothes and all that......

    • @FarmerTorque
      @FarmerTorque  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeppee!!! I'm not the only one!!! I think you have hit the nail bang on the head Johnston with your last two points - definitely a trend and Emperors new clothes? Sadly, yes.
      If I muck up a gear change then my bad;(
      but a quick shifter sticking it's oar in is Sooooo frustrating -
      It was not a little reason my 1250GS has now gone - at least on Triumph and KTM's you can switch it off - which is fine.
      The BMW was full time - no choice - simply do not understand why more people don't at least comment on it!!!!
      I sense another 'Ramble' ;)
      All the best, Farmer

    It sounds exceedingly nice with that pipe. How does the ride / suspension compare with your GS? I have just ordered a new GS Exclusive like yours (will be my 5th GS / GSA) as I just can't live without the 'magic carpet' ESA in my life and I find 'everything else' feels inferior. I do like the look of these new Scramblers though.

    • @FarmerTorque
      @FarmerTorque  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      GS is the best bike ‘in the world’ 😳 which is its strength and my god, it’s strong! But, it doesn’t have the biggest character SO you pays your money, and makes your choice 😳
      Age old decision for bikers - I think the latest GS is incredibly good , but the Scrambler stirs my soul 😊 Oh, the ride - GS is better overall, but the XE is very very good - Farmer thinks you’ll love the exclusive 👍 enjoy !

      @tubeviewer-qp1fb 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FarmerTorque I'm going to test one of those Scramblers as they do look nice and soulful. Yes, the GS could never really be described as having much character (since the LC introduction) and the refinement of the latest 1250s even less so. The 'downside' of being so good. My original 2004 GS 1200 hit the sweet spot of character and efficiency.

    Hi Farmer, nice vid! I had this pipe on my street scrambler, which was traded in for the XE so this pipe is definitely going up on my new bike. I have found Total Triumph advert for this set up but I have noticed that yours is somehow pointing a bit more upwards with a very little of the shock mounted bracket showing, where the ebay pictures show the pipe more horizontal. I do like it following the line of the seat like on yours, do you know if this can be adjusted?
    Many thanks!

    • @FarmerTorque
      @FarmerTorque  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But am confident that my overall solution to the mid pipe will be good - sorry to be vague - working on it at the moment - for that you’d still need the system - if it works out it will be available - but the system does work pretty well now

    Farmer...i'm in a bit of a pickle----aaaaaaannnnyyyyyyy way that you can provide instructions for exactly HOW you made your stunning exhaust? I've purchased the exhaust that would normally fit the *Street* scrambler---and just need some info on your mid-pipe connection and how it attaches to the cannister.
    I would absolutely be indebted to you and would be happy to send you some $$ for the effort.

      @@FarmerTorque hey farmer! I did seen the video... bunches of times as the exhaust is STUNNING!
      MOSTLY...just looking for clarity on how the cannister is connecting to the mid pipe... and which part of the cannister you had to cut to mate it with the midpipe

    TRAIL BRAKING , is there enough adjustment in the forks to tune the dive out ,but I do realise they have a lot of travel

    • @FarmerTorque
      @FarmerTorque  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes - would still be a lot of travel but I say with a little surprise, I find it really enjoyable because the bike is so smooth in transition - if anything, i prefer the bike on the road with the softest settings - I am finding it to be a bike that you can really enjoy and I mean really enjoy 'making progress' without doing silly speeds. Cheers, Farmer
