Surati Locho & Surati Ghari, must have for me whenever I travel there.. And for you? And do check out the full video to see how it's made, from scratch. Fascinating isn't it? :)
This series is beyond food. It connects our culture, tradition, family pride, emotions and blends everything with lovely stories of people, places and food delivered by a classic story teller, our own Chef Ranveer Brar. Thanks for striking a special chord with this series.
This is the best nostalgia episode. Two simple dishes of Surat, not a single city tried to emulate this. Some things are meant to be tasted at the very heart of their origin. ❤️❤️❤️
Aaj aapne dil jit liya huamara Sir, I m from Gujarat, aap jis tarah se logo ko milte he ekadam apnapan lagta he lagta nhi ke aap kisi anjan vyakti se pehli bar mil rahe he yahi vat dil ko 6uu gyi sir ,
Chef Ranveer, I am a Parsi and a Surti so you can imagine how much I would have LOVED your 3 vlogs so far :). But over and above that I can tell you your vlog on Udavada was by far the BEST compilations I have seen on Parsi's, our culture and Udavada. Thank you so much for sharing this with the world!❤

Thank you so much for exploring and showcasing our rich heritage of not only Surat but our nation. This is what we are proud Indian. Thank you so much Chef. I am sure you have definitely enjoyed your trip to Surat ❤️❤️❤️
Surat is my native and I born here, visited hundreds of time but still a lot of dishes remain to taste. This city have such a rich culture in eateries. Thanks again Ranveer.
I'm gujarati and we have a special appreciation for surti food and it's "Surat nu Jaman Ane Kashi nu maran" both are equal..it means food of Surat is similar to death in Kashi..it's thattt good..
Our native place is Surat....we make all these delicious recipes home but then also we crave for it specially winter food like poank ,undhiyu ubadiyu and many more 😋😋
Beautifully covered and what sense of pride that family has for their family business. Indian sweet meat made of milk products are the best, unfortunately we are running behind imported chocolates.
The Love and Pride of the generational dish, the way you bring up the essence, the art of cooking and serving, it connects to the feelings some expressed and even unexpressed But lovely stories, the best way to show the gratitude towards the love of Food and People Thank you:)
What an amazing story of a sweet, i have no words to say about this video. Thanks a million Chef for sharing it with folks like me who has not heard about sweet like this.
I find an uncanny resemblance between Chef Ranveer Brar and Anthony Bourdain. The languid body language, the story telling skills the way they bond wit the common people without any air of being celebrities is just admirable. He brings out the stories out of people, get them to talk and open up. I admire him over all other Indian chefs.

Areey RB, hum surtis have Phoenix attitude, whatever drawbacks come, Surat has risen brightly in that situation, from food to surti mijaj, we stand apart. Tapimata ki jai ho. Yeh unka aashirwad he, khana aur khilana aur koe bhi situation me stay happy is a surti mijaj. Welcome to the king of gujrati cuidine ala Surti jaman❤ sitting thousand miles away watching my beloved city with pride from your eyes and reviving fond memories of going to Jammadas Ghariwala for ghari with my dadaji. Still they are same
The dish is fascinating, the family is fascinating and the thing which fascinated me even more was how many people the Ghariwala uncle have employed. One sweet have given employment to so many people, that dish deserves recognition which you have given.
Dear Chef Ranveer Brar, You are one of the best storyteller one can imagine of. Kudos to your effort in trying to bring the love, beauty and life out of culinary traditions that seems to be lost in our mundane imagination of India.
Beautiful video. Ham log ghar bait ke ethna sunder jaghaha, surat ka location, family members, unke business, dekhne ko mil tha hai, that is through u. Tussi de great ho, hats off. Wonderful discovery. At the last u r laugh,vo sabse achha hai. Love u.
Ranveer, i must say your team has done excellent research on which exact places you have to go. Gharee sab banate hai lekin Jamnadaa Ghareewala jaise nahi. Sagla bagla monopoly hai. Aur koi banata bhi hoga lekin in jaisa nahi. Keep it up.. stay blessed. Ghar ki yaad diladi 😀😘
Your videos are beyond food. Exploring culture and legacy in your way is mesmerising to watch. Watching it from overseas, makes us feel like we are still connected to our roots.
In Surat Saint Nirmaldasji established a math in 1836 at the Shesh Narayan Temple on cot safeel road. Dev Shankarbhai Shukla used to prepare food from the grain he got, so to express his happiness to the Bhrahmin who prepared dilicious food, Saint Nirmaldasji thought Dev Shankar Bhai how to make a special kind of sweet and named that sweet as " Ghari" Dev Shankar Bhai started the first Ghari n Farsan shop at Lalgate in 1838 with the blessings of Guru Saman Saint. During the rebellion of 1857 Tatya Tope and his army also ate Ghari and on that day Aaso Vad Padva was supposed to fall and from then on "Chandni Padva" and from that day the tradition of mass eating Ghari started in Surat.
