I have been lived with Parsi culture at surat almost 30 yrs...just amazing sweet community!! I have learnt my life's biggest lesson from them,"be sweet and don't become a problem for others.handle everything with sweetness and do not demand for speciality rather be a special"!!with God Grace I had a beautiful chance to be a part of this culture for a long time.
As an Iranian Persian, I'm happy to see the Parsi community preserving their heritage. Even though I have never seen this type of cooking in Iran. We have no banana trees either. Thank you for sharing. The subtitle is very helpful 🙂 🙏
This style of cooking is called DUM PUKHT and used in Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and some Middle Eastern countries. Majority of Parsi dishes got nothing to do with Iran. Most of them are fusion cuisine.
That was great! The last Recipe, Umbriu is still made in Gujarat, mostly in late Spring when the winter harvest happens mostly in the fields, Vegetables are cooked in the ground, and the fire is lit and eaten outside as a cookout, only difference being since most of the population in Gujarat are vegetarian, no meats are used, only vegetables.
Wow! Happy to know this recipe isn't that lost as it seemed while watching the show! And also glad to know it can be had sans the non veg ingredients too (since me a vegetarian myself!) :)
happy nowroz to all the parsee people who have added sweetness to our country....like the proverbial milk they sweetened without spilling the full milk pot...
I'm living in Surat, Gujarat. I completed my studies in parsi school. Lots of respect for parsi community. You guys enjoy umbadiyu during winter on the highway near valsad city. there are lots of road side stalls who made vegetarian umbadiyu with this style.very nice video.
Despite not understanding the language, I find their food incredibly enticing. I hope this channel will offer subtitles in the future, allowing me to both enjoy their cuisine and learn about their culture. Thank you for creating this channel; it's both entertaining and educational for people from other countries and future generations. 😊🙏
Hi guys @wise1917 and @quest7345 thank you for letting me know 😊🙏... now, I am watching another video from Epic. But it is only Hindi subtitles... I think they are still working on it 😊
Parsi community 👍 Proud to Nation 🇮🇳 Im from vapi - valsad, local Gujarati people still prepare “umbariyu” accompanied with palm wine Migrated People from pan India also loving and cherish this recipe over here
Umbadiyu is still very popular in Valsad district. They sure have added few Parsee twist to it but it is very common winter food here. Also, they showed Nargol and called it Sanjan.
We Bengalis also have a very special place in our cuisine for hilsa fish,we make bhapa elish( smoked hilsa) with coconut, mustard seeds paste, green chilli and mustard oil
No fuss about yourself, nor about the one who is cooking, the Protagonist is the RECIPE itself!!! This is simply amazing!! It's a perfect blend of story telling and the techniques employed in the lost recipes. Your narration is simply amazing. I am in love with your channel!!! ❤
The Parsi community is a community you have got to learn a lot from. They are the most intelligent warm loving adjusting respecting non interferiing God fearing peace loving and most amicable communty. I have also had parsi friends while in school college at work and in the close neihbourhood too. They are very gentle and loving folks. I love them. Whereever they live they live in peace . They are no nonsense no violence people and have greatly contributed in various fields to the best of their ability in Nation building and we from Bharat should never forget this. We should always be indebted and thankful to them. They are the best communities. They vibe well with all and do not expect much from anyone. Not very greedy for power or position and not at all corrupt people.
You are wrong sir.. Umbadiyu is very famous and most favourite dish of Valsad.. in winter, on the highway between vapi to Navsari, so many small stalls you will get.. you can enjoy with seeing live Umbadiyu making infront of you.. It will never be forgotten in my district..
We do Lovo in Fiji, where we dig the ground up to 4feet and put Rocks and light the fire and when the rocks are white hot we put in taro, cassava, Kumala and meat, and already marinated all wrapped in Foil.and let it cook for about 3 to 4 hours. Comes out really good.Thats how the natives cook.
30:20 umbadiyo is still famous food available in surat, just like roasted undhiya u will find lot of stalls on surat mumbai highway selling it during winter.
I really like food but the historical background, social aspect revolving around the food really fascinates me.. Thank you for this series and also for RAJA RASOI AUR ANYA KAHANIYA..❤🎉
Interesting… Adhitiya thanks for sharing, I use to watch your program long time ago chakhle India. Where are you now please share some more interesting new recipes thanks 🙏 From London 🇬🇧❤️
Absolutely Amazing episode, thoroughly enjoyed watching these ancient lost Parsi recipes, knowing about their culture and stories. What a friendly Parsi community and people... lots of love. Thanks Aditya and team ❤😊
I had little to no parsi influence in my life but I love food and now through this video I feel so connected to parsi community. And yes my friends from south gujrat love eating umbadiyu and it's very common in south gujrat region
Probably one of the best food shows I have ever watched. Especially the last recipe which Urwaksh Hoyvoy showed us how to prepare, was the most unique technique. Good job Aaditya and EPIC Channel for visiting remote areas in India and bringing back all lost recipes. Hopefully a book is created with all these lost recipes listed with pictures and steps so that current and next generation can continue to make.
Loved this video..thanks to Aditya and everyone who helped me to attain such wonderful knowledge about Persian food and culture...can't wait to visit Udvada myself...❤❤❤
This is amazing food It's not a competition but a celebration of India and how authentic and special the choices that India can share with rest of the world ❤
First things first, let me congratulate you guys on the launch of your channel. What an amazing concept for history buffs and culinary enthusiasts alike. I personally enjoyed all three recipes but the one that really stole my thunder was EDA PAAK. This one is definitely being added to my repertoire. I’m Gujarati so I’m familiar with the the bastardized version of UMBERIO (veggie version aka UNDHIYU.) If I’m not mistaken, I believe that the contemporary version of first recipe is PATRA FISH. What a show!!! All the best to you Aditiya, your enthusiasm and compassion are very contagious. Keep up the GOOD work.
Well explained Bhujelo Bhing recipe...Thanks. I would like to say I am from the Aagri community, we also love Bhing fish it is little different from Pala fish. In my childhood my grandmother used to make a similar recipe with different fish and in the Aagri language we said " Bhujlela" for rosting on fire. Thanks for sharing.
If all people’s of the world adapted this mindset of the Parsis to assimilate wherever they settled, this world would be a more peaceful place. We should always live in harmony with the native people of the land and respect customs and beliefs. The Parsi are a very kind and caring people. Navsari was a more liveable city when the Parsi community was larger. There was more order and clean.
Umbariu is very similar to a receipe prepared in Konkan area named POPATI People still use this cooking technic in Alibaug area. We can eat it in many resorts in Raigad district.
What a wonderful amalgamation of cuisines! Beautifully presented and narrated! Connecting to people through food and searching for the lost delicacies with such simplicity makes these videos truly therapeutic! ❤
My favorite meal when I traveled to India was at a Parsi restaurant. It was also very meaningful to me that I was eating something with a link to ancient Persia. My heart does break however, for the loss of such a great civilization and that Zoroastrians had to leave their homeland.
Amazing recipes which need patience, time and energy to prepare & will get walloped in no time. Lost recipes take you back to your grandparents times when food was delicious, had no preservatives and love flowed from their hands.
This is very good episode. Parsi's are adorable and respected community. It is interesting to know about Umbario as well. The exact dish is made in konkan region(specially in village) of Maharashtra during winter season. It is called as Popti (both veg/non-veg).

As said. In introduction parsi and indian combined culture language and food.
how do you eat bananas then? what about coconut?
@sabitasahu3030 In Iran, we don't grow bananas nor coconuts. It's not indigenous to the region. Hope that explains my point.
MashaAllah❤🎉
