- Head Over Heels: A Review of the 2017 Suzuki SV650: www.ridersdoma...
Fans of the old SV650 got a lot to smile about when Suzuki released its 2017 model. Ditching the SFV650 Gladius design for a look more in keeping with the bike people actually loved was a great move.
Additionally, overhauling the lovable 645cc liquid-cooled V-Twin and 2-into-1 exhaust, dropping some weight, adding niceties like Low RPM Assist and Easy Start, all contribute to a bike that pleases the senses more than ever before.

Probably the best buy now for a motorcycle.
Started riding three and a half years ago on a 650cc bike, still not bored, plenty enough power for the street yet user friendly for a noob rider.
600cc is more than enough for town, fun, and highway. A 600cc was my first and then it got stolen. Only then did I branch out and take a risk on a larger bike engine (847cc). I was happy with my old bike, and happy with my new bike.
I haven't ridden a 600cc supersport but from my understanding the power curve on those aren't very good for a beginner. Unless you rode a different 600cc bike? Either way, good to know it worked for you, sad to know it got stolen, hopefully the idiot crashed and broke multiple bones. Ride safe!
Started riding cycles this year, due to Covid. Wanted to get out the house and find a new sport / hobby. Was riding my mountainbike religiously before that. So I went riding one day with my friends, dirtbikes. Learned on a 110cc w/ no clutch. Then the same day they put me on a 450cc. Learned on that, never took it out of 2nd gear. Came home and a week later bought my first bike, a KLX300R. Didn’t even take my MSF course and get my license, before I came across a helluva deal on a new 2018 SV650. Doesn’t have ABS but I couldn’t beat the price. Taking my course this week, and loving my bikes, loving my situation. Learning and practicing on both, same time...it’s been good. My friends and mechanic tell me I picked two great first bikes and I should probably have them forever. We’ll see !
12 yearsback, I repaired a heavily mashed suzuki Sv 650 early carb model, still got it, great all-rounder, apart from the naff uncomfy seat
Really like the looks if this bike. My FZ6R isn’t the fastest thing out there but is really enjoyable. This would be a great replacement for it.
To be fair this SV won't be much faster. But it will likely be more fun to ride with its playful V-Twin engine.
Nice review. I have 12,000 km on a 17 sv650 and endorse what you say. Great all round bike. Suspension is a little soft for larger riders when you are travelling quickly but still fun - even the odd track day is fun. Get the matte black version, tail tidy and bar end mirrors to make it look a bit nicer, put better halogen globe in the headlight to improve your visibility and night vision, and you have a great and slightly cool town bike. That said, you do get to a point where a bit more power and better handling becomes desirable, and will upgrade to either a GSXS1000, GSXS750 or Z900 - and leaning to one of the Suzuki’s because my ownership of the SV has been without incident - nicely built and Uber reliable.
Thanks for watching - glad you are enjoying your bike. Yeah Suzuki's are tough bikes. They will last forever with proper maintenance.
I love my 2016 SV, cant fault the bike.
I really enjoy mine👍
Nice professionnal review!
Glad you enjoyed and thanks for watching! - Byron
#Spicy110 appeared at the end! Great review guys
Nice video Byron!
Thanks Axel!
Hello! if anyone could help me i’m considering this to be my first bike, but i’m concerned about the seat height. i’m 5’8 and i’m wondering if it will be small enough
Love my SV. I'm 5'10" and have no issue flat footing. You should be ok.
Hi! Great review! Would you recommend it to 6'2'' ft tall guy?
So with the 2018 MT-07 with stronger suspension comming out, which one does a guy who loves to ride "spirited" go for? Both seem like wonderful bikes!
@Jay Jay I regret selling mine.
Wish you would state where you filmed! Beautiful. Would like to know the location of this
Hi Tommy, we were riding in northern California, near the city of Mineral.
I want one so bad.
Do you think the bike is to small if im 190 cm long?
Compared to the Vstrom? How comfortable comparatively? Is it more maneuverable?
.
It's more maneuverable, but the V-Strom wins out in comfort. The wind protection and neutral ride position of the V-Strom will have you good for hundreds of miles, whereas with the SV you're likely to need a few more stops on the way. The engine is more fun in the SV however, it's a lighter package and barely takes any effort to move through turns. Either would be a lot of fun, just depends on what kind of riding you're planning. - Byron
Guys, this bike ok for 193sm guy?)
Nice
Thanks!
