Even though I’ve been a professional photographer for the last 13 years (weddings) and understand many of the concepts you talk about, I always felt drawn to your videos. You have great images. But what I appreciate most is your engineer mindset applied to photography. I love the way your problem solve, iterate and reach to conclusions. And the systems and guidelines you create after it. I think you are one of the best photography educators in the world.
Roman I follow you not only about your way to forograph, but about you. You have a great way to express things and tell a Story. Thank you and greetings from munich Germany!
Hey Roman, that was another extremely helpful video from you. And it's great "proof" of how you've developed as a photographer and content creator over the last few years (in my humble opinion) Please stay the way you are! Best regards from Hamburg, Jann
Some good advice, especially about travelling light. All i have in my bag is my Sony A6700 and single zoom lens, a lens cloth and a rain cover for the bag. My lens is the 18-135 f3. 5-5.6 which is very small and light. It means i have a choice of focal length and no need to change lenses. I can still concentrate on a single focal length if I wish.
I am a portrait photographer who only dabbles in street photos. In my genre, "focus" is simple...you shoot the subject. Thus, I have always been a little lost when out and about. That said, my "epiphany" from this video was "think in three's... an establishing shot, subject image, detail." Brilliantly simple idea. Thanks for the knock in the head Roman - I needed this.
I'm slowly but surely getting more and more into street photography, mainly because of your vids and tutorials. Thank you Roman for sharing your vast knowledge on the subject i really appreciate what you do for us. 👍😎
Good advice and great images. Like you I keep it simple. I leave home with one lens, the 28 OR the 24-120. A hat, a poncho, a bottle of water in my pocket and a spare battery. No bag, Can just concentrate on the job. Look forward to more of your work, Cheer from Australia.
You mentioned 2 things that are important in all photography, proper clothing/footwear for the conditions you will face and to pay attention to your surroundings for photos. I often see many people who are completely oblivious to their surroundings when out and it scares me.
Thanks Roman, this was great. There's clearly no substitute for hard work, but I like the three-shot framework as a way to focus your practice. Please keep up these wonderful teaching videos!
Nice video Roman. Also don’t get caught up chasing the latest and greatest gear. Learn your camera and learn it well. When you’re on the street, you’ll be better prepared to shoot instinctively when the moment presents itself.
Roman, thank you for another wonderful and helpful video. Question - when referring to focal lengths, are you referring to full frame equivalents, or the actual APS-C focal length you use on your Fuji cameras? EG, when you said how much you appreciated the 50mm focal range, did you mean that in full frame equivalent, so that would be an APS-C 35mm lens? Or, did you mean the APS-C 50mm focal length (75mm full frame equivalent)? Thanks again!
I have found by switching to film from time to time, makes me think a bit more before I hit the shutter (£1 a shot portra 400 after developing/scanning). Great photography and locations really enjoy the content you push out to the community Roman
Great, well thought out video as usual Roman. Your "My Little Photography Book" is a great read, packed full of numerous tips and insights from your own experience. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. Cheers
Great tips, thanks for your thoughts. I’d love to have an online location where posted images can receive comments and critique - I’ve tried a few online, but nothing achieves much in the way of of knowledgeable support and guidance. 🙏
Brilliant video Roman; as always I really enjoy your photographs and get so much from your insight. I’m going to enjoy your new book now and thanks for all you do to support and encourage us in photography.
Thanks, Roman. Another very informative & practical approach to photography. Going to enjoy your book, but using a highlighter marker for parts I want to remember, is messing up my laptop screen..............😀
Consistency of the white pullover; it took me some time to understand that you were changing cities while you were talking seamlessly 👍 That flying dog 8:49 and the lady on the beach 8:21!!!
In line with putting in time is to go out shooting regardless of the weather. I used to be a fair weather photographer. Once I stopped that and went out whether it was hot, cold, raining, or snowing my photography improved dramatically. Partly because I didn't stay home due to 'bad' weather but also because I was able to get shots fair weather photographers never even get the opportunity to take.
Hey, Roman! Love your content. I saw your your video with Louis Armstrong and great stuff. The conversation about calendars blows my mind. Controlling your calendar is the priority. Being rich without controlling your calendar is not the point. I want to ask you this question regarding AI. What's your opinion on photography/content creation in the AI era? What could you advise a beginner in this AI era? Thank you for your work 🎉🎉🎉
Hola compañero! Grandes consejos, sobre todo el último, y el de los 3 tipos de luz para utilizar. Por cierto, te he visto varios vídeos en Valencia. Yo vivo a pocos kilómetros. Un abrazo.
Hello Roman, thank you for another informative video. You have once again explained the most important points briefly and succinctly. Please keep it up. Greetings from near Münster.
I used to do the walking many miles thing but I now prefer to concentrate on smaller areas, getting to know and photograph the area in more detail. (And no, that's not an excuse to buy cheap shoes!)
I am still playing around with focal length. My highly introverted and detailed mind leans strongly toward long lenses, but I want to still see if I can make a 35mm work. I may try MPB next time, but unfortunately the USA store is not nearly as well rated as the UK one.
Thanks for sharing these tips. I would only qualify the 6th one (traveling light): it's far better, in my opinion, to take 2 cameras (e.g. one with a 28mm and the other with a 50mm) than 1 body with 2 lenses. The added weight is largely outweighed by the increased reactivity and time saving. Cheers !
@@tititatiti Why not, indeed. It depends how you use them. Many photographers (I'm one of those) prefer prime lenses for various reasons, in particular: 1) The more you get accustomed to a focal length, the more you learn to "see" in that focal length and compose the image in your head before you even take the camera. 2) The more options you have, the more likely you'll hesitate, waste time choosing and sometimes eventually miss good shots.
Thanks so much for this video!! I really enjoyed it. I hope it’s okay if I offer one small bit of feedback: when walking and talking, perhaps you should slow down your pace. At times, it sounded like you were a bit winded from walking and talking so much without being able to take a breath, and it was just a bit distracting. Love your work and videos!
Live you style mate. I notice a lot your photos have a soft glow, is that bc of your fuji film color science? Or do you apply the orton effect w/ decreased clarity often?
Thanks Roman. As a beginner photographer, your channel is invaluable. Looking forward to diving into your new book too. May I ask if all the ambient street noise is recorded just with the camera's internal mics or do you use an external one?
See I feel best when I'm shooting 50mm (full frame). I like my photos more and I find it easier.... But I can't help but wonder if I'm too subject focused and kinda not making the most of what is in front of me
Used to lug a bag of kit about but now just take an old Sony 6000 with a 50mm f1.8 plus an iphone 14 pro... see loads of people out these days carrying mountains of stuff inc tripods and they stand out as targets for the urban ninjas up to no good...

Great city to walk around in… been to Valencia for a day…..l
Please, are talking about Full Frame or APS-C focal lenght? Thank you for this tutorial, as good as ever.
Valencia is an amazing playground for street photography.

Hey Roman, insightful video, as always! Which camera do you use for vlogging when you're walking and talking? Just curious.
Man I miss Valencia. Definitely a place I want to visit again along with Bilbao
Another great talk.
I used to do the walking many miles thing but I now prefer to concentrate on smaller areas, getting to know and photograph the area in more detail. (And no, that's not an excuse to buy cheap shoes!)
Yeah I get that and I feel I will have the same a few years down the line
Valencia, my beloved city.
Great video, thanks man
Great video, thanks Roman! 😊
Which brand of your shirt you're wearing is? It looks nice and clean
Thanks for all the tips Roman! I have a 23 and 35mm f2 on my X-S10, would you think adding a 56 f1.4 is worth for street photography?
I am still playing around with focal length. My highly introverted and detailed mind leans strongly toward long lenses, but I want to still see if I can make a 35mm work. I may try MPB next time, but unfortunately the USA store is not nearly as well rated as the UK one.

Really good stuff - very helpful!
Valencia ❤
Great tips
Excellent stuff!
Great tips! Also really like your new book that i'm reading right now!!
Thank you so much!!
Are you using the pocket 3 for video in this video? The quality is great. Keep up the good work I like your videos.

@@philociraptor6751you will miss more shots with prime lenses, less shots with a zoom.

It's easy to streetphotography in Valencia... 😊
Thanks Roman. As a beginner photographer, your channel is invaluable. Looking forward to diving into your new book too. May I ask if all the ambient street noise is recorded just with the camera's internal mics or do you use an external one?
Thanks for picking it up!! I had a DJI mic on me. hence the small square on my shirt which was the magnet.
Hey great Video, Like Always, im noticed u get a xh2, did u Switch from the xt5 to IT? Have a nice day 😊
Do you recommend cinebloom 10% or Glimmerglass 1 ?
Excellent
Totally unrelated but what are your sunglasses called?
Nice
Nice one!
How to get better: practice; pratice; practice; and have a sleep sometimes 🙂
and food
@@snapsbyfox Yes, that too !
@@phils3736Coffee!
Just buy a new camera or lens and you will be better. Practiceing needs time.
Time =money,
money = camera / lens
Thats basically the system
….sleep sometimes … and dream of taking photographs … (as I seem to be doing these days …) 😊
Legend!
Great advice …
This was good
See I feel best when I'm shooting 50mm (full frame). I like my photos more and I find it easier.... But I can't help but wonder if I'm too subject focused and kinda not making the most of what is in front of me
What to do with 24mm. I have a 24mm Nikkor dx lens ..I bought it for low light capability but it's too wide
Used to lug a bag of kit about but now just take an old Sony 6000 with a 50mm f1.8 plus an iphone 14 pro... see loads of people out these days carrying mountains of stuff inc tripods and they stand out as targets for the urban ninjas up to no good...
Yeah a tripod on your backpack is never a smart move in a busy city
35mm!!!
👏
Well -- how to recognize english in Valencia in winter -- haha -- look at him and you know the answer !
haha and I was boiling!! I wish I had a t-shirt on instead
How do you deal with people that don’t want to be photographed? Because that’s my biggest fear
Don't photograph them.
8:24 DAMN!
TIP: "Keep it minimal, less kit is better, 2 primes."
NEXT TIP: "Take a wide with 28mil, a subject at 50mil, and a detail at 85mil"
🤔
I want to take wide shots of streetfood booths, but I am not bold enough to hold the camera into the vendors faces
