- Drum & Bass Made on an Elektron Model Cycles
So I recorded this the other day and when I played it back, I thought it sucked. I wasn't going to post it but I figured why not take an objective look at the track and figure out what it is that makes it weak.
As I've gotten older and more experienced with making music, I've become better at identifying the weaker ideas and scrapping them before going too far with it but for some reason I saw this one all the way to the end. Maybe because I've not been particularly inspired lately and didn't really have anything else going on.
Anyways, if you want to share the analysis with me, or just talk about the Elektron Model Cycles, stick around
For what it might be worth, that bass would be way better as long legato lines instead of stacatto jumping around, since the other elements are jumping around. It would balance them out. The sound is great though, I love that FM gnarly bass sound.
That's an excellent observation. Good idea.
Definitely one of those tracks that can be revisited down the road. I keep a "not working" folder -- sometimes I dip in and think "I don't know what I was thinking, I dig it now!" and sometimes I hear it fresh and realize precisely what it needs. And other times I'm like, "yep, still not working!" LOL
Yup...80 to 90% of the tracks I make suck🙈
Over the years I've gotten better at identifying the "lost causes" earlier in the process and scrapping them but occasionally one still makes it to the end.
yes, it's uninspired trash with no feel to it
Soulless for sure.
this is what happens when you care more about being a mindless consumer and chasing gears and hardware over actually making or thinking about music with the tools you already have
A bit heavy handed here. I am not a mindless consumer and I have been able to make some really nice tracks with this device as I've had it for years and have used it many many times. I make a ton of music and not everything I record gets put out there but we can still learn from those experiences. That's the point of this video.
What an odd thing to say, @assasinofpapers
