I have been following you for years, but I seldom write/comment. However; Just wanted to express my gratitude. You are awesome, very very good at what you do and you have an amazing aura that goes all the way from your room the rest of us watching. Thanks for the awesome stuff!
I just got a M:C yesterday as my first ever time playing around with a drum machine and I'm falling in love with it. Your tone, patience and enthusiasm exudes positivity, thank you so much for doing this!!! I want to send you big hugs, looking forward to watching your other vids :)
You made me buy this Cuckoo, and thank you so much for that, it's a joy to use ! I never had the courage to finish a track in 30 years of casual synth playing. With this thing I really have a simple tool to learn how to compose from A to Z. There is a learning curve of course but it's not discouraging thanks to the genuine fun it embeds.
30 years is no longer casual my friend. the hardest thing is committing by saying to the world "this song represents me" but you can get around that by saying "this song only represents a tiny piece of me" and not putting so much pressure on yourself to be a genius
If I would have watched this video 4 months ago when I got the Cycles I would have been still lost, but owning it for a while… plus the Samples/Tone/Takt, I now understand how to do 90 percent of what was mentioned in this video. I’m not bragging, it just feels good to finally be picking up on the Elektron workflow. So with that said I enjoyed watching this and picked up a few tricks. Much appreciated!
i love the cycles, its by far the best groovebox i ever used. very direct and intuitive but with amazing power and flexibility. really amazing work done by Ess and elektron on this one.
Wow I left I comment on the previous video yesterday I would like to see a break down like this and then I wake up and here it is. Cuckoo is reading my mind.
best cycles demo ever, both informative, entertaining and above all, highly musical! cuckoo, you're the man! you might just have sold me on one of these :)
Thank you pal! I appreciate hearing that. Although this didn't start out as a tutorial, it sort of came close to being one. :D It's a great little instrument. Punching way above what typical "entry level" synths have to offer, in my opinion.
Hi cuckoo ! I come from a long way, at first hating electronic music and praising pure acoustic instruments. Then I've started to build cheap oscillators and untuned analog circuits ; unattracted with the idea of buying any tidy music machine from the market. Now I catch myself absorbed in your video. I find it fascinating and I love the way you talk about your compositing approach. Guess what ? I'm buying my first model:cycles ! Thank you for having me diving into this new world.
Ok, you got me. With the sale, these videos, and the fact that you can sequence external gear (monophonically) with this, I couldn't resist. Thanks for the awesome content!
hey mate! I'm really loving the way you share knowledge online. I'm always watching demos or tutorials on youtube and somehow I always end up coming accross one of your videos (god save the "Algorythm"). They totally reflect your ideology, same as when you speak about more people having access to this kind of devices and being able to create wonderful music. Just wanted to let you know that! :)
YES! I posted on your other video asking for something almost exactly like this. And here you are, one step ahead of me and everyone else that asked for a deep dive in the Model:Cycles workflow. Awesome!
What a cool device to sculpt out the performer’s personality. It’s simple enough to grasp quickly but has so much expressive depth to explore with every use. Thanks for sharing your approach!
Great video! I have seen it many times and learned a lot of it. Thank you very much! I would love to watch a similar video on your digitone set. Keep up the great work. Greetings from Hamburg!
Really Cuckoo thanks for this video man!! For me it is the most clarifyng, inspiring video on the Cycles. You gave here so many shortcuts for people thst have the Cycles to make it shine... Thanks thanks! Really amazing video.
Damn it! I've had my eye on this thing for a while, but it's no where near the top of the list. However with the sale ending today and having watching this, now I'm reconsidering!
@truecukoo please read 🙏 I felt compelled to reach out and say your channel has been truly inspiring. So, last year, I fell quite ill. And watching you enabled me to live vicariously through you. Everytime I watched your channel, I felt better. And, When I was in the hospital you really helped me get through some tough times. Im not kidding. You took my mimd off things. I will always remember when I first saw your channel, I thought wow, this guy is like the Bob ross of the music world lol and the more I learned, the more I watched and liked your videos. And I am sure I am not alone when I say you are truly inspiring. Please keep making videos and never change 👍🏻 yours musically, turfoid.
Thank you so incredibly much Turfoid! I hope you’re in a better place now, and things are getting better for you. Glad to having been able to help you through the tough times ❤️
Other creators take 3k worth of gear to make a song you’ve heard 100 times, meanwhile the dude here showing how it’s done w really creative and skilled mastery of a modest (and underrated) piece of kit
Amazing Cuckoo. Thank you for this. Not sure if I missed you doing the same but there's a guy on here called Arthur Fauveau doing a cover of Ageispolis by aphex twin. Instead of using half step to increase length, he uses two patterns playing at once which is pretty cool! He just holds down 'pattern' and presses which ever patterns he wants to play through. They just cycle sequentially.
@@truecuckoo haha I did the same by wiring a cable from the headphone output on the Megadrive to my dad's tape recorder... ,😂 Lol so u must be around the age of 36 maybe?
Great stuff. I've got a Digitone and haven't really felt the need for one of these, but you're making me feel the need for one of these :/ Are they more instant? More fun? Or is there no need for both in your opinion?
You don't need a Cycles if you own a Digitone. The Digitone is more flexible, but more complicated to learn. The Cycles is nice, but I sold mine because somehow I feel you get to similiar sounds overall from the device. The chords function is special, that's to me the only thing I miss.
how do you think this compares to the digitone? there's something about the appearance of this device that makes it seems o much more approachable than the digitone. also you look like hipster hagrid in this video and i'm into it
I have both and this is certainly more approachable than digitone. With digitone you kinda have to have some understanding of the basics of FM synthesis. With this you really don't. Each algorithm feels like it's own thing with each of the controls having a pretty understandable impact on the sound.

The first song reminds me of Gnossiennes No. 1 by Satie, it’s incredible how you got that theme doing a ringtone embryo.
Ha ha, yeah thanks. I suddenly found myself moving into Erik Satie territory, and decided to keep the reference. I love his timeless pieces.
