The dorado is an awkward fork to try as the crowns are limited by the headtube size and the offset is pretty old school ! This obviously affects the handling so will compromise how the fork feels compared to a single crown ! Rulezmann suspension sell a shorter offset drop crown for the dorados that would also let you ride the bike with a 29” wheel and a comparable offset ! Until you do that it’s not really a fair comparison! Maybe try a short offset 29” boxxer or a fox 40 with the mojo morc short offset crowns ! 👍
The Dorado has been the best upgrade i have done to my bike. It has saved my life in multiple occasions and really handles chuck better than the single crown had on the Patrol. You also barely notice the weight difference.
Got a Fox 40 on my Pole Voima! Monster truck, does make it quite tight going through switch backs but more than makes up for it going down the rough stuff!👍🏻
Have always wondered what my Megawatt 297 would be like with some 40s on it. Also, love how often you use our trails for your filming, Tirpentwys Pontypool. Cool video!
I had a Trek Rail with 160mm fork. Kept upgrading until I got to 180mm. Bike should have been built that way. Finally got a Pole Voima with 190mm front and rear. Total game changer. All full fats should be built like this. Great up and down. 😊
I ride a Specialized Kenovo Expert with the Triple crown Boxxer and it's great for hard riding and a motocross background. I have extended the travel from 180mm and with different internals with High and Low speed damping and different air valve are now superb. I tried the non triple crown forked bike and the Expert is just better.
for long travel such a good thing. video disctription needs an edit as there are no triple crown forks, all triple clamps including the dorado are dual crown. this might of been a bit more doable with a boxxer fork as they have an extra 9mm with the tall crown version over the dorado 29 tall crown version. and dump the internal cable routing for bonded on external cable guides , another reason for never buying a frame with headset routed cables
Mfgs need to produce extra drop top clamps to fit these to bikes with 140+ mm head tubes. Lots more bikes would be running these if they could fit the frames.
57 offset dorados on a craftworks enr v1 mullet with cyc motor kit. shortened my reach back to 400, headangle now at 63, lifted bb to 360 but increased stack height so not a problem. It rips end off. You might of had the 48mm offset which is for short headtube, I've 135 between crowns on 29 setting.
When riding my downhill bike I feel the added stiffness is such a huge deal. Probably more than the 20mm extra (compared to my Kenevo). So I don't quite understand why there are so few double crown forks out there. Especially on these kind of long travel e-bikes. I really think there would be a place for a slightly lighter double crown fork. Let's say a double crown version of the Zeb or Fox 38. 180mm of travel. So many bikes would really benefit from a fork like that.
Specialized Kenevo with Öhlins DH38 dual crown forks and TTX22M2 coil shock. Raced it a lot in Enduro and it’s a sledge. I’ve since removed them for a more poppy and playful ride. Öhlins RXF36 (180mm) and TTX Air 2 shock which has loads of ramp up for jumps.
Great article! That bike looks sick. I run Marazocchi 380 spring forks, they are so smooth. I also like my bars bolted to the top, 220mm brakes, bafang ultra motor 😊
I have 2 Kenevos. 1 with a single crown and one with dual. Intended to replace the dual crown initially, but 100% converted now. I only ride the dual crown. Bike Park sends, Scotland off piste, family coastal rides, South Wales mountain epics. Does them all. Turning is only an issue when pushing it outside a cafe. All my future ebikes will be dual crowns 🤷♂️
My Ibis Oso is rated for a dual crown, but I have no interest in going there. I don’t push hard enough that the difference between the Fox 38 on it and a dual crown would offset the negatives of a dual crown. I love absolutely ripping rolling, twisty singletrack on a full power emtb and going on long pedal adventures on it, tackling tough technical uphill features along the way, and the dual crown’s decrease in steering is just too much of a detriment for me. For those who use them solely as DH rigs that don’t require a shuttle, however, I think it’s awesome that some bikes allow it.
Have had multiple e-bikes. After using the Boxxers on my kenevo and then upgrading to 40s. I will never run a single crown on an ebike again. Opens up the limitations in my opinion.
I have been riding Haibike Nduro8 with triple clamp about 2 months....did about 30 000m of elevation and I must say that steering was not a limiting factor at all. Really liking the bike with big burly and confidence inspiring forks.
Rich, put back your 29'er, change the headset where you can adjust the degree of the headtube angle Basically, the geometry will remain the same. It'll be rad!
If you have an E you are going to explore, you will hit new territory all the time. If you keep that up you will eventually have a "uh-oh" in over you head feature surprise you. If you have ever put in any decent time on a DH then you will immediately know that suspension will save you from an appreciable percentage of sure crashes. It's one of the big reasons I ride E, because I can bring along a ton of suspension at no physical cost in weight to my endurance.
I Ride the new Ekano 2 al also with an Dorado Pro Carbon Fork with a 29er Wheel in the Front. The Convention is possible , but you have to check out the most possible Steering Tube height und Internal cable routing . The new Ekano 2 al is in this case very grateful. After the corversion the Geo is still the Same . Only the wheelbase is now Like the size Xl . Now with the new Dorado the best Bike i ever had for smashing trails and bike Park. 💪
I moved from 29" / 170mm to 27,5" / 200mm : the handling remained very similar, it was easier when riding fast, but more difficult on rocky trails, when going slowly. In conclusion, better for bike parks or fast trails, but with limitations when using on alps trails
I have a kenevo expert! Installed a 200mm air spring and over stroked the rear to 187! Nitrogen only ride dh but ride trails xc freeride and enduro! Best thing ever! Can climb all day! I would say only use triple clamp forks if bike is made fior it!
For 99% of people, it's extra weight that's unnecessary. Unless you are in downhill competition or that's all you do, it just seems to be unnecessary. And if the bike wasn't designed for a downhill front suspension, it's going to change the dynamics of the bike for normal riding as well, not usually in a good way.
I've had tripples on all my bikes and stump jumpers Love them! Just got a new Emtb myself with fox 38 170mm there nice but there not 40s! My bike is able for them I need to replace the arcoss headset for the rise as they just crack in half if even adding a 29in! That looks amazing though Rich love a shot!
Great video, but tbh I think in this case you got the wrong fork for that bike, if it's lowering the frontend and increases the head tube angle. Or need to get a smaller front wheel. That can't be the goal when getting a triple crown fork in! See at a boxxer or F40!
While not an e-bike, I ran a dual crown 180mm travel Boxxer on a Lawwill DH-6 set up as a trail bike for years. Definitely confirm some of the issues Rich had. Was the Dorado set at 200mm travel or reduced to 180mm? I wonder if the 29" front wheel would work if set to 180 instead of 200.
Using a 190 rockshox ultimate on my pole voima, love it , saved my ass on more than ond occasion, hmm, I would like to try a triple ....just the turning on gnarly trails that's off-putting.
Hey mate, if you keep holding me up in the trails, we're gonna have a problem... again. ;) Nice video, I have just purchased one of these, maybe catch you at the Fire Road when my mates got a puncture again next time but i'll be on my strive on next time! ;) Maybe do a review of the Haibike NDURO Freeride 8? It has Ohlins DH forks?
At 62kg I am nearly back to my birth weight. I prefer a heavy full power Emtb to push me through downhill rock gardens and to make the suspension work. If you want to go Cycling ride a 7kg road bike. If you want to have Fun ride a full power Emtb hard and fast flowing up and down. Weight doesn't matter. E=Mtb²
After watching this video I am left scratching my head - It feels like this topic was really addressed in bad faith, if you were really trying to make a review, why wouldn't you use a frame approved for dual crown usage like the Yeti 160e, why would you not talk about axle to crown length differences between single crown and dual crown forks?, and why would you use a Dorado Pro carbon (polished crowns/carbon legs) that is not approved for e-bike use like the Expert and the Comp forks (alloy legs)? You could also run 29" front wheel and adjust geo with crown placement, decreasing the travel to 180mm (internally adjustable), and increased sag (another detail not addressed) was the true purpose of this content just to say "don't mod your Canyon"? or just too busy to be bothered with details?
My dream ebike would be pinion+gates+3fork and 45kmh assist, sadly it would probably cost about as much as stark varg. also why are 3forks that much more expensive, just because they are rare, there isnt that much more manufacturing and motorcycles use only them.
Whats really insiane is why the fk most mtb have single crown conventional forks the moto world worked out long long ago the dual crown upside down forks are way way better and the steering lock issue seriously even trials bikes have dual crown forks and to say people would not be able to tell there better is crazy any rider can tell when there bike goes were you point it . Good vid Rich like you said on a bike designed for it its way better .

Tazer mx pro here. Dual crown on the ebike is the move 👍🏻

I have been pretty critical of some of your early videos. You have grown a lot and are putting out some really great videos now. Well done.

Rob Rides pretty much said it was the perfect everything bike. I believe him.
I’ve got the 190mm air spring for my expert but haven’t fitted it yet. I’m guessing you have no problems then?
It’s called, triple clamp.
That particular bike was made for the triple clamp.
Specialized do two models one with single crown forks and mine.@@johnnywallace8123
A dual crown fork on a big travel ebike is doing it properly. Love the 40 on my kenevo. Plus the CSU is never going to creak.
@@markcosens1 how is the kenevo on mellower trails?
